I always loved the FA Cup more than anything else, then at 14 I became a Christian. I never heard this hymn before that and it blew me away with Love and it's humility. Then when I found out that it was the song sung on Final Day, I cried, because something that I love so much also honours God on the final day. I believe, if this song was ever to be taken away, that the UK would be in for some very dark times indeed. God Bless You 🙂 ♥️ ✝️
You don't understand the hym, you don't understand why the working class sang it at an FA cup final. In the context of football it has very little to to with a God.
@@whatmatters683 Can you tell me why was sung then!? After the Composer Henry Francis Lyte died it was adopted by the FA, it was also sung as the Titanic sank. The FA introduced it to bring people together in faith that were not normally religious. Can I have your explanation and does it come from history or contemporary thinking? Are you changing its meaning based on rising secularism?
This version gets me everytime, I agree it could easily replace God Save The Queen. What a chilling song it makes your realise what life is really about!!!
Arguably the best intro done by ITV. It's needed to remind everyone how important the FA Cup still is to English football. Along with the champions league theme tune, footballers worldwide have said as soon as they hear this on the pitch it makes the hairs on the back of their neck stand on end. Every school boy football lover's dream.
@@raflaughter3474 wouldn't describe the old Wembley as gorgeous.. It was a shit hole. It was beautifully shit, old school and miles better than the new one but nowhere near gorgeous
@@AJ-ct8om Have to agree with you the old Wembley was never built to last longer than the near 80 years it stood for. When they were consideing reopening it for the 2001 Final because demolition work was delayed they condemned it after safety checks showed the stadium was disintegrating anyway. Hence why Cardiff stayed as a venue for the six finals it hosted.
I'm not British and I haven't been raised Protestant. In fact, I'm Australian (of British and Irish descent mainly) and was raised Catholic, and to some extent I've been brought up to ridicule Anglican English tradition. But this moves me to tears. There's so much emotion in this hymn. It's only fitting that something so passionate should be the flagbearer for moments equally passionate as Steven Gerrard's 90th min Cup Final equaliser. And that's just one fantastic FA Cup moment...
Carl Mitchinson i could watch this over an over again an still get goosebumps. I have NSNO tattooed on my arm and I just got another tattoo yesterday it says "you will be with me where ever i go" in memory of my two uncles who died an was massives blues and I am gonna get "your in my heart your in my soul" added on to it :) COYB
Carl Mitchinson leighton baines hes such a good lad ill show you something if you add me as a friend i hardly use youtube so i dont no my way around it lol my facebook name is pearl kelly baines
This is the best intro ever....tells a story of a population that has seen highs and lows but all share the love and passion for a sport invented by them and feels the magic and the importance of its oldest tournament which represents the tradition and the people. God save the Queen and the Great Britain
@ronaldinhollew Totally agree, the FA Cup is a beautiful tournament. Makes people like me, whom support lower League teams proud to be defeated when we come up against big teams. It also gives every team in the country a go at competing for who is truely the best team in the country. Teams who play weakened squads, sicken me. And we don't have FA Cup weekend all season anymore.. I'm only 16, but it's MY favourite tournament, above the UCL.. ANd I sing ABIDE with me with passion every year.
i could watch this 100 times and still gives me goosebumps, i remember hearing it when i was about 11 or 12 i think and even if i didnt want to watch the football i would always turn over just to hear the intro
King Eric lifting the trophy after scoring the winner against the scousers in 96, shame it doesn't have that goal as well, it's been used a fair few times on the FA Cup intro's. One of the reasons I watch the Cup Final still, even if United aren't in it, is the presentation of the royal party before the match, and the National Anthem and Abide With Me. It sets it apart from any other football match, it gives it a bigger sense of occasion even than the CL Final ceremonies.
I remember in late 90s early 00s we used to sit and watch the draws and get hyped up about who you could be playing. The FA cup was massive back then. It’s just something for the smaller teams now. The premier league and champions league make the most money for the big clubs.
I like this intro. To me it shows the spirit, tradition and true appreciation of the FA Cup. You don't get a medal for coming 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 17th in the Premier League.
Does anyone know who’s singing this version? Absolutely love this song & like a few others have said, this should be belted out at Wembley for England 🏴
Oldest competition in the world and my team has won it 14 times. That knowledge along with hearing this has hairs sticking on the back of my neck everytime.

ITV will broadcast the FA Cup again from 2021. IMAGINE IF THEY MADE THIS THE INTRO AGAIN :)
With Leicester City lifting the Cup
BREAKING NEWS-----Sadly ,they didn't! 😞
This is by far the best FA Cup Intro, far better than the pap thats on right now.
Now that is a top class intro. Fully immersed in the tradition of the FA Cup.
anyone else in the final of the FA Cup on Football Manager?
Me.
Hull City v Man City (2025). Looking to bring major silverware to Humberside for the first time!
Imagine if this was the Englands national anthem
Tony Buckley it should be
Tony Buckley It’s Abide With Me
Way better than god save the queen
Would be a bit hard as the composer was Scottish.
@@chrisrowe7503 ah no problem god save the queen(king) was written to celebrate the removal of a anal fibrual from Louis xiv the sun King

I love this intro its the best one yet, always gives me goosebumps
is it normal to cry every time I hear this? :)
Every FA Cup game i stand with pride when this is played the FA Cup is British and makes me proud to be british
With you on that Ricky!
Abide With Me was the 2nd Hymn played at my late sister's funeral in 1996 & since then I cannot hear it without at least welling up.
Completely forgot this used Abide With Me. This hymn has been at every single funeral I've ever been to.
This should be the intro again, it gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it and a tear in my eye

This should so be the English national anthem. Can you imagine the pride belting this out at Wembley.
I could imagine it at the old Wembley....the new Wembley is nowhere near as gorgeous as the old one.

Absolutely beautiful and respectful of tradition.
Wonderful sing and emotion .. the best ever...
They need to use this again, I remember even if i didnt want to watch the football i would just put this on to hear the intro
I was wondering who sings this intro version. Can anyone please tell me?
So nostalgic, the song itself makes me feel emotional.

I was at the 2008 FA Cup final, and when this is played before the match it's surprising how many fans sing this! I love this intro!

This is the best into ever done by itv for the fa cup. Better that the shite they've put out this year.
As a Chelsea fan I have always said.
Forget Europe.
The FA Cup is the one.
Perfect for the final. Emotional. Come on Leicester in the srmi- final.
Bring it back
This for me is the FA cup anthem and I played it today as I do every city FA cup match walking up to the Etihad once it's in my view

@MonVie With you 100%. The latest one does not compare.
I watched dat vid from 2004/05 FA Cup Final where my team Man United lost 5-4 on penalties to Arsenal, plus, I remember that day
Anyone happen to have link to full song of this? Cannot find it anywhere
Would love to sing along to this at Wembley with Sunderland.
It's Nathan Curtis from Coronation Street 0:09
Does anyone know who’s singing this version? Absolutely love this song & like a few others have said, this should be belted out at Wembley for England 🏴
The best ever Abide with me…❤️
i agree, makes me nearly cry
0:8 is that Nathan from corrie
This is brilliant
Lost its magic 😢
Pretty grim music for something so exciting. I LOVE IT!
the problem is that the FA Cuo is too small ...they should make it as big as the league trophy golden as well not silver
