K and N filters for the Venture block about 10% of the airflow out of the filter housing into the ductwork. You should have looked into the hole that goes into the ductwork and you would see how much that air filter blocks the airflow with the inner frame of the filter itself..
    also:
I just did my 2008 royal star venture air cleaner, valve adjustment, carburetor cleaning, spark plugs ECT. The ductwork from the air cleaners in on the 2008 Royal star venture I just bought used with 30,000 miles on it was full of dust and grit that leaked in at all of the clamps/fittings. My carburetors were filthy at the intake bells.. I bought this motorcycle in 2021 with 30,000 miles on it. It had K and N air filters in it when I bought it which made me happy, until I started investigating where all this dirt and crud was coming from. That’s when I noticed that the intake path on the exit of the air cleaner housing that holds the filter, with a KNN air filter in there, the frame of the air filter itself blocks the intake on the inside opening- frame of the filter.. I was surprised to see that because K and N advertises their filters as increased airflow, less restriction. I actually made a video that is now here on youtube -“ Watch this video before you buy K& N airfilters for yamaha royal star venture- is the title..It is disturbing how much dirt was being sucked in at every joint of that intake system. I have it in two videos here on TH-cam
update July 2022. There is a comparison test between different brands of air filters for cars by a TH-cam guy with the name project farm. He does a first rate very professional job when he tests products.
He built a plexiglass box with an opening that would hold air filters made for the same car from many different suppliers of air filters like frame, wic,, Purolator, and especially k&n… he put a vacuum on the lower part of this filter holder he made and he had a particulate counter that actually counts small specs of material like dust. He would put a filter into this holder that the filters fit in precisely, then he would turn the vacuum on, and he would sift flour into the upper part for the filter to be exposed to…
The regular paper filters like Purolator and Fram were allowing around 100 to 120 particulates to pass through the filter over a timed test
the k&n pre-oiled filter was allowing over 1200 particulates to pass through ..
no wonder they advertise that they have the highest airflow. But at the expense of your engine exposure to dust and grit passing through the less restrictive k&n filter ..
When I saw that test, I realized that all of that dust that was on the Inn side of my ductwork from the air filter to my carburetors, stuck to that smooth flat surface was coming through the k&n filters..It actually made me sick. I’m going to do a compression test on my engine and see how much that dust has worn my compression rings, possibly my piston skirts, valve seats and valves, not to mention the slides and bores of my carburetors..
needless to say… i stopped riding my yamaha rs venture untill i refitted oem paper filters…
another thing to consider is. If you ever buy a new vehicle, and you replace the air filter that came with the vehicle with an aftermarket filter like K and N, or the oil filter, and you have an engine problem or a sensor problem, the manufacturer can reject your claim because it says in every owners manual I have ever rid of any vehicle I have ever had, to only use OEM parts..
back in the 90s, a man used a Chinese chrome oil filter on his still under warranty Honda Goldwing. He bought the chrome oil filter because it was chrome. He had an engine internal failure, the Honda dealership, the mechanic, and a Honda rep that came to the shop determined that the oil failure was due to the Chinese oil filter.. Honda rejected that warranty claim. The owner of that machine ended up buying a complete engine from a salvage yard and had it installed at that Honda dealership.. he paid for that out of his own pocket. He was very upset with the dealership, but they already had his engine out and apart. So he had them install the complete engine out of a salvage yard..

I've done this and it made a big difference. But if you need to do your fuel filter then now's the time. The 2 makes your big run great just like new! Dont forget your rear gear oil, Just saying.

Big difference. Probability the second highest performance gains I've made after the ignition. As for the the sound I really don't know, my exhaust is to load. Lol.
