Here's the funny thing, many people say they don't like this kind of music, all twangy and crying, but when I heard the first few notes I felt my body relax and I smiled. It soothes my soul. I more than like it. I love it. Thanks y'all.
Classic performance of one of the best of the many great songs written by Merle, who passed away on his 79th birthday. We’ll meet him again where, as the old gospel song goes, the soul of man never dies. And nice to see Marty on the instrument he started his career on. Thanks for this post.
Praise God for those of us who lived through the time of Legends. We were there! There's only a few left. There isn't a single singer in today's country music that will ever hold Legend status. These people lived their songs. Today, it's all phony southern accents, with music and lyrics with no depth or spirit. Must now support authentic talent like Marty Stuart who now carry the baton and deliver heart and soul to all who will listen.
Merle's voice was as pure country as anyone has ever heard. His guitar playing was on another level too...not just because of his technical skills, but how he found those little notes that just fit perfectly...like in this song..that litlle run in the break just fit perfectly what everyone one else was playing. There will never be another one like him...his music was forged in hard times and trouble..heartbreak from loosing his dad so young..prison...and life on the road. He pretty much lived everything he ever sang or played. Add to that his uncanny song writing...how to paint pictures with simple words that made you see between the lines or think...how did he know that is what I feel or felt? THe best overall in the world...just my opinion though having heard all the greats over the last 64 years.
