  • I played for a friend's wedding this past weekend in Kansas City, MO USA. A beautiful and heavily decorated Packard organ was used, this organ has some serious power!
    I have heard in the past about some pipe organists complaining about playing a reed organ for weddings, I think those complaining should reconsider their words, these reed organs are amazing instruments :)
    The piece is called Highland Cathedral that was used as a processional. This was recorded with just an iPhone during my practice before the wedding, thanks Lori for recording it!

    Rodney,
    About ten years ago, I was a young teenager with a growing fascination with the organ and sacred music. I discovered your channel and was really inspired by your ability to put yourself expressively into the hymns you played. I loved learning about this instrument too. A couple years later, I was asked to play the organ for my congregation. I remembered the expressiveness you conveyed in these videos and tried to do the same with my playing. Many members of the congregation came to me after our services and told me how moved they were by the music - and I owe that to you! So thank you for (perhaps unknowingly) blessing many more through your music and the deep care you take for it.

    The Packards were such fine-sounding instruments. This one sounds powerful and superb.

    The few parts with slight distortion made me think 'What would happen if i'd put a mike onto the organ and feed it to a Leslie'.

    This Packard has a real beautiful tone: it's powerful but with sweetness and roundness.

    Nice to see a video of a Packard. I have one sitting behind me that I absolutely love playing. Although I need to restore it fully, it's still such a beautiful instrument.

    Beautiful! The selection as well as the organist and his ability to pay and to interpret the piece. Actually, both pieces. The music as well as the instrument!

    One of my favorite pieces that I really enjoy playing on pipe organ. I have to say that this harmonium is very powerful as it needs to be for this music ! Thank you, François.

    Amazing how with this, all it costs to power it is pushing with your feet, but with a pipe organ it can cost as much to power it for an hour as it costs to power a house from a week to a month!

    There should be more harmonium where now a keyboard or electric piano stands.

    Hmm can you give me maybe the sheets so I can play it as well on my Harmonium 😃?

    This reed organ has a really sonorous voice! Amazing! Will the microphone standing behind be used to amplify the sound of the instrument in a service?

    • @ReedOrgans
      @ReedOrgans  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Once the chapel was filled with people, the sound people did used the mic to help, but not much of it was needed as it still carried well in the room.

    Dear Rodney, this is a great video. The incredible strength of the instrument, combined with the softness of the sound and the control that flows from under your hands, gives an amazing final effect. Strength, humility, majesty and beauty, wonderfully...😍

    I have Packard organ in my storage building. It has a rich sound but is loosing air. After hearing you play this one I am feeling the urge to take it out of storage. It has a very nice sound and as always you get the most from an old reed organ. Thank you, Rodney.

    Hi Rodney, are the reeds tuned to A440 on this Packard? It sounds like it. It sounds more like a pipe organ than a reed organ. Magnificent sounding

    that's pretty cool how you get a 16' bass sound out of a pump organ and also different sounds without even changing the stops. also all that reverb seems unlikely in that room. cute video though.

    • @ReedOrgans
      @ReedOrgans  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The stop changes are made by using the left knee lever (called Grand Organ), same as a crecendo pedal on a pipe organ. This particular instrument has a 17 note 16' sub bass, which can really belt out the deep bass :)

    Hello, thank you for another beautiful recording ! I am wanting to try and record some harmonium music, and I was wondering if you could suggest a suitable microphone (like the one you use in this video). The harmonium I play is a 1870s Adolphonse Rodolphe. Many thanks :)
