I’m 26 this year. I hear this when I was 13/14. We’re forever young!

My English teacher tuned me on to this band last year. (I was a sophomore in high school last year), and my teacher saw my intense interest in rock and roll music (the strokes, the white stripes, led zeppelin, arctic monkeys, beatles, mgmt.) and also my interest in romanticism (thourough, emerson, Whitman, Mozart, Beethoven) and he gave me his cd of contra. He told me that I would fall in love with them because they combine elements of neo-classicism and romanticism, with modern indie rock music. He was right. I love everything about them. I love how ezra himself, was an English teacher, and how that has effected the band's lyrical style and context, and I love the intricate lyrics, and I love the laid back throwback quirkiness of their sound. I love everything about them. I now own all 3 of the bands' albums, and I owe it all to my wonderful English teacher. my teacher not only taught me and inspired me to take a career choice of an English major, but he also introduced me to an amazing movement and community. unfortunately, since he was only in his 20s and was new to my school, he got the pink slip and was fired. It disgusts me that an excellent TEACHER can be fired simply because of the amount of time they've spent teaching and because of their age. I haven't seen my teacher, ("Mr." Wyatts) since the last day of school last year, but his legacy shall remain strong everytime I hear this beautiful band playing, whenever I hear romantic literatural music being played!

I heard this song EVERYWHERE around Christmas the past 4 years and I was obsessed with it but I could never find it because I didn't know what it was called or who it was by and now, just after the 4th year of not knowing it, I find it to be one of my new favorite bands. In my first year of teaching last year, I'd watch this video on my free period every day. I flipping love the visual of those crazy costumes and wigs as they paint graffiti and go through a drive-thru. Too funny! I think it’s really cute how the director came up with the idea of having Vampire Weekend dress up in costumes of lawmakers during the Revolutionary War. It’s so random, but it makes the song a lot more entertaining in my opinion 😊
