Jesus approached a disabled man who couldn’t walk at the Pool of Bethesda. The man believed healing would come only if someone helped him into the water at the right time, but he had “no man” to do that. Actually, this had nothing to do with healing as Jesus demonstrated it. There was no ritualistic process in the man’s healing. The man did not have to step into the pool to be healed. Jesus healed him with a few words at the side of the pool. This illustrates that the power to heal lies with Spirit, not in matter or with a human person; that “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing” (John 6:63). And it shows that time is not a factor in healing. We might sometimes feel discouraged that a problem seems to have a long history, feeling that it is harder to heal because of that. Jesus disproved that lie, instantaneously healing the man at the pool, who had been lying there, unable to walk, for 38 years. What seemingly hopeless situations are you facing today? God wants to rescue you. Will you accept His help?
