I love this version of this song. Chris does such a great job on it. I have never been much of a country fan until I started to listen to Chris Stapleton. I also love him singing Cold at the CMA awards and also Devil Gonna Watch You Burn about the Vegas mass shooting. It is a must see. Very powerful.

Always fun seeing someone expect one thing with a “country singer” then stumble onto Chris Stapleton. He sings blues/rock/country/soul/r&b at an exceptional once in life time level. "Cold" live from the 2021 CMAs, please! Always live for Chris, with the exception of "Fire Away," which has an important video associated with it. I have to say, I've seen a ton of "Stapleton Stankface" from reactors, but you came up with some new ones. LOL.

It's amazing that, while we might think of Country music and Soul music as being on opposite sides of the spectrum, the truth is that almost every form of modern American music from the early 1900s to today, from Rock & Roll, R&B, Country, to Jazz, Blues, Big Band, and Gospel music, all share the same roots that branched off in different directions. Ken Burn's PBS documentary series "Country Music" beautifully explores those roots. While I've never been a big Country fan, that documentary opened my eyes to the similarities that all of our music share and I grew to have a profound respect and appreciation for it. Now, if only the people that listen to all these kinds of music could realize that we all share the same musical roots, maybe that help bond us all because music does bring people together like few other things can.

I assumed the original would be much the same too. Except Chris doesn’t even do his own songs the same way twice! I once heard his wife Morgane say Chris’s gift is to take a song apart then put it back together in a completely different way. I think his TW is a perfect example of this gift.

This is a cover originally recorded by David Allen Coe in the 70s and became a huge hit when done by the King of Country George Jones in the 80s. The George Jones version is considered the paramount. Your next country should be some George Jones.
