    I've only just come across your channel, and I'm so glad I have!! The companies you talk are exactly what I've been looking for!!
    I've been really disheartened with mainstream fashion in the UK, I think it's lazy manufacturing marketed to look cool, and as you say, sucking the life out of the planet, in a much bigger way than most people realise. I've known a few self-proclaimed Eco warriors who shop regularly at Primark!
    Having discovered creators like Bernadette Banner, Cathy Hay, the Closet Historian and now yourself, I'm really inspired to develop a 1930's style wardrobe, with pieces both made and bought, with a sprinkling of styles of other periods.

    You missed loveurlook. I believe they are based in London (I found them at retrofest 4 years ago). They have a good statement about sustainability and ethical sourcing of fabrics x

      I hadn't heard of them. Thanks for sharing! I'm planning on doing more videos as I already know a lot more that I didn't include in this video like Palava Folk.

    Thank you for this video! I really want to dress vintage, and felt like I couldn't while caring about the planet and people, until now!
    Funny story. I emailed a fabric company to find out if they were an ethical brand, and they just added me to their email list, didn't answer my question, and sent me a bunch of annoying ads😂

    Great video! I totally agree with your argument that we need to support businesses trying to make positive changes. This is one of the reasons why I support buying from cosmetic companies that go from testing to becoming cruelty free (if they produce some/all vegan products obviously). I know many vegans are uncomfortable with supporting brands with “evil” parent companies or who have only recently stopped testing. But if we are pushing companies to stop testing (and arguing that we will only buy from CF companies) but we then refuse to support them when they do go CF, then what message are we sending and what motivation are we giving them to make this decision? Similarly we need to support brands with parent companies that test so that we can make these businesses viable. Thanks again!

      @MissBeeTownsend  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. If they genuinely are cruelty free (and don't test in China) I advocate supporting them. The reality is that small businesses often fail and to avoid this many small makeup brands sell to bigger conglomerates. However, the contractual agreement allows them to run as they did before the sale so a lot of the time the staff and the ethics are the same, they just give a small percentage to the bigger company and have access to funds to produce more vegan and CF goods. Plus the bigger conglomerate can see that people are choosing to support the CF brands on their ledger rather than the non-CF ones because the data is readily available to them. It's not the most ideal situation but it does provide consumer feedback which is important.

    Honestly, even from these small brands this often just feels like lip service, especially when I go to their websites and see most of the clothes are still made with lots of polyester or acrylic. I feel like companies so often say they're ethical and sustainable but then still use so much plastic in their clothes as well as in their packaging. Its so frustrating.

  • @BeckyDK

    In general absolutely love this, and am so grateful for you highlighting these companies work.
    That being said, for a company claiming that their clothes is for all shapes and sizes, but only go up to a UK20? That is SO far from all shapes and sizes, and is frankly hurtful and I'm disappointed that you wouldn't at least call them out on that.
    While I do think clothes companies in general ought to be more size inclusive, at the very least don't lie and claim to cater for all bodies when you very very clearly don't.

    • @MissBeeTownsend
      @MissBeeTownsend  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your feedback on this. I actually wasn't aware that this size range isn't inclusive enough to make that statement true. I don't know what the measurements are for sizes other than my own, so that is obviously something I need to do more research into. Have you reached out to them to tell them your thoughts on this?

    Some of vintage reproduction clothes look more like costumes than clothes that people would wear everyday. Sometimes is the color sometimes the pattern or both. And I understand about supporting small businesses but not everybody has the money for overpriced clothing. Because they are not even made from really nice fabrics or as detailed stitched like back then. So we are basically paying the pattern because it's rare to find out in stores. I would love to support but it's not for every budget in most cases both reproduction clothing and shoes. Or if they are affordable they don't really look nice.

    • @MissBeeTownsend
      @MissBeeTownsend  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think it depends on the pieces. I personally think these brands make very good quality garments, but I agree there is a lot of expensive, poorly made repro out there. Fair enough not everyone has the budget but there are people paying the same amount for the same quality but the pieces are not ethically produced. So hopefully this will encourage people to switch where they spend their money. I have videos on thrifting and buying true vintage too for those with smaller budgets 😊 And I can make more of those videos if this is something people want.

      I agree, it’s so often the beautiful fabrics that make vintage pieces so special. I wish they would make them more like this now, instead of all the photographic print stuff and cheap synthetics.

      @angelajane3913 Agreed! There was such a range of textures, prints, colours…everything today is so generic.

      Thank you! Yes, ethical and sustainable clothing doesn't have to be synonymous with minimalism and only come in black, white and beige! And thanks so much for the make up suggestion. I'll check them out! Xxx
