  • In this video we will be using Alias Autostudio 2020. You can also use Alias Surface for this workflow.
    This series is to help you guys see what goes on when I make a car exterior inside a design studio. How I take the sketches and the engineering data and I merge it into one cohesive model. For this project we will be using Hanbin's BMW DTM design, his photoshop tutorial can be found here
    gumroad.com/sk...
    My Alias preference set can be found here

    Thanks for this series Ray! Its great to see somebody out there putting effort to make such videos in our relatively small community of digital modelers.
    Looking forward to see the completed model.
    I think 3x speed and slowing down to explain some bits is perfect.
    Hope to see you finish the series with some great renders in VRED/Blender.

    Finally found a very good modeling and explanation session on TH-cam. I'd like to get into concept car designs etc, and even though this isn't a "Blender" tutorial on "how to make a car", the general workflow and ideas are very helpful in being able to design my own renditions of concept cars. I personally don't mind these long videos, as they tend to be very informative, and I think that 3x speed is a great medium as it's not too fast either, so I was able to follow along quite nicely, thank you! Now it's time to watch the other parts, and most probably spend the rest of my day watching them haha 🙈😅😂

    Thank you so much for this video.
    I've been trying to do concept car for a couple of months now, and being screwing up big time. This video is the only one that address the core issues. The initial 2D sketch has to be made accurately by someone first before it can be translated into 3D and surfacing. Blueprints on the internet are NOT concept sketches. They already exist. And that's exactly what concept is all about.

    Hi!
    I just found this video on my feed and in the first 10 minutes you answered all my questions that I've been asking everyone that I know they may have the answer for the past year! so I have to thank you for putting out such amazing content.
    I'm a CG artist working in Maya and I was looking for the right way to model a complex concept design that I did for practice.
    So... thank you again!

      This is amazing for sure. I use Blender, and the modeling process used here could easily be used across platforms relating to their own tools to make designs, so I'm definitely going to give these techniques a try

    I love these over the shoulder views of your workflow. Always interesting to see old things done a new way. I know this is an older video now, but what stood out to me is the lack of seeing the actual tools youre using. Cant keep track when you dont use the pull down menus as you have everything hot-keyed. Hot-keys are awesome for work speed but those watching have a much harder time following. That said, for this particular video it isnt hard to follow as you use very simple tools pushing and pulling CVs but may be more important in more complicated situations.

      If you are going into architecture I would focus on Rhino and Blender for your other 3d creation. Alias I would only learn for automotive and product design. Besides that it would be better for you to focus on Autocad, Rhino, and other 3d software specializing in architecture.

      @micahwhite7484 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even when you translate from YOUR OWN sketches and 2D renderings into a 3D space, you are constantly making compromises to make the individual elements/ proportions/ etc. work together within the overall design. A great example in this video is the wheelbase differences between the profile-view and the front-quarter-view: the shortness of the profile-view wheelbase hinders the overall proportions of the vehicle, not unlike the original Audi Quattro Sport or 1970s Thunderbirds. The key to successful 3D translation is in your diligence to preserve the "feel" or "expressiveness" of the original ideas laid out in the sketch, and work towards making the ideas work in physical space~
