On this episode of FM, I'll walk you through the accessory belt tensioner test and replacement procedure on my LEXUS GS400. The test and replacement is similar across many other models. However, be sure to consult your specific FSM for your vehicle's procedure.
    HISTORY
This resolved my tensioner issue that occurred when installing my XAT Racing Pulley Kit (episode is available here: • XAT Racing Aluminum Pu... ). XAT decided to solve my tensioner fitment issue by sending me a new 3UZ tensioner with their 3UZ pulley installed for use on my 1UZ VVT-i.
Replacement of the tensioner is a good preventative maintenance item as well, so even if the tests indicate yours is ok, it might be worth replacing it as a preventative measure. Typically we don't see tensioners as the cause for a thrown belt though; usually the bearing goes first and they get noisy.
    PARTS
Tensioner: there are many options out there; select what's best for you. OEM is always a good option, but expensive.
Belt: Bando PN 6PK2240 has worked well for me.
    XAT Racing Pulleys: xatracing.com/...
    TOOLS
    Basic hand tools
    Ratchet set
Deep well 12mm socket for one nut (box wrench will work too)
Torque Wrench (5-35 lbf minimum range)

Decided to change my belt after mechanic said it needed it. Belt actually looked pretty good so not sure what that was about.. 11lbs to move tensioner and it looks quite wobbly when running even with new belt.. And it's way out that arrow, 3 notch range as well.. May have to do this soon..

Sucks I ordered a set of XAT pulleys for my 1uz vvti and I waited 2 months and I only got 4 of the 5 pulleys because they said one wasn’t ready. Another problem I had was when I went to put the tensioner pulley on the tensioner sat too far inside the back of the pulley which was causing the pulley to not sit right resulting in it getting hung up on the engine. I didn’t receive my pulley kit until after I waited two months AND sent them an email asking what the problem was. They told me it was because one of the pulleys wasn’t ready which is weird because on their website and Instagram it says they are ready to ship. Also the person I emailed was being a little rude with me. Just putting this out there for all interested in ordering from them. BEWARE

First of all, thanks alot for the lovely vedio 😊
You mentioned in the vedio that the new belt tensioner you installed in your lovely car can be fit in 1UZFE engine .
Are you sure about that 🤔
I am gona say different way :
Is the OEM belt tensioner in Lexus LS400 1UZFE non VVTI engine, can fit in Lexus LS400 2UZFE VVTI engine as your car ?, it's the milion dollar question.
because some people say yes , and others say no .
I have LS400 96 non VVTI , I couldn't find OEM belt tensioner in our local Dealers , they said its discountenued, they have it only for LS400 98 99 2000 with 2UZFE 😢 wich also can fit in 3UZFE for LS430 from 2001 to 2006 .
That's way sir ,,, are you sure it can fit the 1UZFE?
If that's right, Kindly share me the link for it .
    Thanks again.

Thanks for starting off by saying thanks. A lot of people don’t do that and they need better manners. Unfortunately the situation I found myself in with this video doesn’t allow me to answer your question. Here’s what happened: I ordered a pulley kit from XAT Racing. The tensioner pulley they provided would not fit on my engine. I told them, so they sent an entire tensioner assembly to me with no further information. Turns out that was an old pulley design and a couple years later the pulley came off the bearing entirely! So they sent me another pulley. That’s why I can’t answer your question. However, I think XAT Racing might be able to answer it for you. Also, you can try to cross reference part numbers using toyodiy: www.toyodiy.com/parts/q.html - I hope that helps!

Keep doing what you do for your lovely 😍 car .
It's one of the best 👌 👍 GS400 in TH-cam. I like it so much, especially with manual transmission, and It is a rare wine red colour, I show it to my mechanic friend, he liked it a lot, because usually no one see a Lexus with a manual transmission.
You are an organized, dedicated person. You like to make everything clean and tidy. You are a person who only accepts the best, and only accepts that everything be in perfect condition. You are Intelligent, and always striving for perfection without getting tired, or desperate. All of these qualities are also present in me, and as I watch you working , I feel that I am the one doing this work. I still have my Lexus LS 400. Model 95, and now I have owned it for 19 years, and the odometer reading now is 626 thousand kilometres, and it is still as smooth as if it was new , and I did it myself as well alot of fixing with my own hand , good luck to you.
