    Hey man where did you get the dash kit for the deck? I really like how flush it is and also own a 2010 corolla. A link would be great. Awesome video and car btw.

      Check out sonicelectronics.com
      It will have you out in your car, type, and year and bring up the dash kit. It's like 15$ or so and comes with both the single and double din configuration.

    I cut into the bellow of the air box, but you switch the intake and add an exhaust if your looking for more sound.

    Michael, your tutorial videos on here are really good. You have a very professional touch on your work and i'm very impressed with your workmanship plus sharing your ideas and knowledge. In particular i was very impressed how you replaced the factory radio with the pioneer large screen. This looks really good and adds class to your car.
    Well done.. :-)

    You want to take advantage of getting cooler air from outside the car, therefore you do not want to shorten it. I have noticed no difference in the filter, I change it every 30k miles. I'm averaging 35.4 mpg 80/20 driving mix.

    Also the input shaft bearing on my 2006 Corolla gearbox (manual box) is starting to get rough, it's done 183,000 miles. Does anyone know roughly what a new gearbox costs? I can put it in myself. The other option is strip the gearbox down and order new bearings from the part numbers stamped on them, we did that for my Dad's gearbox and some of the needle bearings were almost $200.

    I disagree with iridium plug change comment. Mine were replaced after 100,000 and looked like the new ones - dielectric leakage! This I cannot be sure of.
    I would not pull higher temp air into the engine. A Wix air filter and Amsoil Signature Series oil and 15k filter is all you really need for one of these engines.

    Can you elaborate on the wiring of the mirror to the fuse box? I'm trying to add heated seats to my S model, and there is a fuse designated for heated seats. I used a multimeter and could not get any sign that the fuse is hooked up to a power source.
    Did you use an 'add a fuse' or hard wire it into the input side of the fuse box?

    I've got 2010 Corolla S. My transmission actually took a dump after 108k. 4k for rebuild swap out, but cheaper than a new car when literally everything else on the car is in great shape. I found a transmission shop to do it vs going to Toyota. They wanted over 5k and the warranty was 12k miles or 12 months. What a joke!!
    The shop guaranteed there's for 3years or 100k miles. Great thing about them, they work with 60+ other shops nationwide.
    So if I move out of state I can take it to a shop they work with and they'll repair it for free under warranty, and if there's no shops in the area they pay a shop of my choice to do the work.
    Talk about peace of mind.
    Anyways great video. Not the normal upgrades you see, most are on performance. Nice to see some little things most ppl wouldn't notice unless they own a Corolla le.
    I'm dying to upgrade my stereo system. You absolutely correct about the stock system, it blows.... literally. Stereo pretty much doesn't work except the port, so I use my phone and play pandora.
    The speaker ate all about blown out now too.
    It was really nice sounding when I got the car but just didn't last more then about 6 years.
    I've got Rockford fosgate speakers picked out, so doubt I'll need a sub woofer.
    Seeing since it a commuter I don't see you adding a cold air intake and muffler, but really interested in what your next mods are going to be.

    Your ride looks hot. I'm doing a lot of upgrades to my Corolla LE 2010 (spoiler, window tints, etc.). I didn't like the boring look. I want to to add steering controls, but it's dangerous it mess with the airbag. What are the chances of it detonating?

  • @Sunshone7311
    @Sunshone7311  12 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Depends on what has been done so far;
    Air Filter
    Spark Plugs (under some circumstances)
    Check the brakes
    Drain and fill the transmission (use Toyota fluid only)
    Cabin air filter
    the spark plugs are subjective and really only need to be replaced if you drive a lot of city stop and go. You will need a special 9/16" spark plug socket that should be available at AutoZone. The sparkplugs themselves are iridium and are currently dealer only. You can find them online from a couple of Toyota parts dea

  • @Sunshone7311
    @Sunshone7311  11 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    My iridium plugs fouled at 50k, which was strange since I drive all freeway. Our California blend of fuel seems to be the culprit.

    hey bro if you dont mind me asking, can you make a vid showing what you did to the airbox, i have a 2007 corolla s MWR rebuilt with 114000miles on it and the airbox mod was the first thing i learned on it. i took the box out, gutting the white sound baffle, white gauze, took the air snorkel off and put a tb spacer and k&n filter with ngk spark plugs. it livened it up a bit, now have a k&n intake,tb spacer,2.5in custom exhaust with magnaflow cat/muffler no resonator or 2nd cat and ported/header wrapped celica gt exhaust manifold. did you have any white gauze on the top part of the airbox. also jet performance vforce plus module for 2010 are a good addition

    I'm wondering whether anyone has considered doing cosmetic upgrades to the Toyota Corolla Levin SX 2012 or Ascent Sport 2012 ZRE152R 10th Gen to make it look more upmarket? Given that they built on the Toyota New MC platform, I'm wondering whether it would make sense to use Toyota Blade, Lexus CT 200h or Toyota Prius as a basis for cosmetic upgrades?
    Upgrades potentially include the following (depending on what can be obtained aftermarket, by the way, does anyone know of any quality aftermarket products that hopefully incorporate multiple functions into one device, hence reducing dashboard clutter):
    • Car Alarm - to achieve compliance with AS/NZS3749.1 Class B or AS/NZS3749.1 Class A. Potential Solution Dynamco PARA485 (P485) CYCLOPS UPGRADE ALARM
    , Viper 700VXR OEM Upgrade Security System with 3 Point Immobiliser (AS/NZS Certified System), Viper 700VR OEM Upgrade Security System
    , Rhino RAV324V, Rhino RAV3, or Rhino RAKP
    • Alert/Warning - Collision Forward - Potential Aftermarket solution is the Navman MIVUE860DC TYRE Dash Cam, Garmin DriveAssist 51 LMT-S 5" GPS Unit, Navman Drive Duo 2.0 5" GPS with Full HD Dash Cam
    • Brake Emergency Display - Hazard/Stoplights
    • Control - Crash Avoidance with Braking (Low spd)
    • Control - Pedestrian Avoidance with Braking
    • Lane Departure - with Passive Steer Assist
    • Lane Departure Warning - Potential Aftermarket solution is the Navman MIVUE860DC TYRE Dash Cam or Parkmate PTS-440BSD Sensor Front & Rear Blind Spot Detection System
    • Parking Assistance - Graphical Display
    • Hill Holder
    • Park Distance - Front & Rear - Steelmate PTSV810 Front & Rear PARKING SENSOR KIT 8-SENSOR KIT, Pioneer Reverse Sensor Kit for Smartphone Multimedia Tuner - ND-PS1, Kemax Reversing Camera & Parking Assist Sensor Kit, Powertrain 4.3in. Reversing Camera With Sensors, PARKMATE REAR PARKING ASSIST SYSTEM WITH AUDIBLE ALERT
    • Camera - Rear - Potential Solution is PARKMATE 4.3" REAR VIEW MIRROR MONITOR, Gator 9IN MIRROR MOUNT LIVE STREAM CAMERA KIT, PARKMATE MIRROR & MINI CAMERA REVERSING SYSTEM
    • Automatic (light sensitive) - Potential Aftermarket solution Jaycar KIT - AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHTS 10/13
    • High Beam Auto Dipping
    • LED Headlights
    • Headlight Washers
    • Daytime Running Lamps - LED
    • Rain Sensor (Auto wipers)
    • Side Mirrors Electric - Anti Glare
    • Side Mirrors Electric - Auto Dipping (Reversing)
    • Side Mirrors Electric - Heated
    • Side Mirrors Electric - with Memory
    • Digital Radio Receiver (DAB+)
    • Rear Windows - Extra Dark/Privacy
    • Leather Seats
    • Multi-function Control Screen - Colour
    Additional aftermarket upgrades:
    Heads up Display that shows speed, GPS directions (like the HUD in the Citroen DS5), Reverse Camera would be fantastic

    of Toyota parts dealers for much less than your local dealer ~11 each. The manual transmission will need a drain and full, it is a simple 2 quart exchange. Be sure to use only Toyota fluid, otherwise you can experience issues with bearings. I will be posting a video soon going over maintenance items.

    It requires removing the back seat and the lower mid and upper side panels. You can probably do it without removing everything but the likelihood of breaking something greatly increases. Give me a day and I'll try to get that removal video up.

    The spark plugs are iridium so they should last 100,000k I normally change mine at roughly the 90k, mark though.

      Acceceleration is pretty decent and the top speed for the 1.3 version is 185 km/l.

      If you buy a corolla for acceleration you are missing the point. Buy an sti, or a type r. A corolla is for gas mileage and has a really low cost to own ratio.

    I own a 2005 LE, used w/ 130,000 miles. My only upgrades I plan (because I plan on driving it for 4+ years until I get out of college) are better head and interior lights (LEDs and High power bulbs), installing fog lights that it didn't come with, installing an auto dim mirror with compass (I'll consider the Nissan one) a stereo with new speakers (also consider your suggestion), and possible other things.
    Thanks for the advice about the spark plugs and battery, I will probably replace them, seeing as the previous owner probably didn't. Also, my corolla only gets between 22-25 mpg, but I do drive between 35-45mph, stop and go roads. I'm not sure if the spark plugs, age and mileage or the engine thing could be causing it.
    Anyways, thanks for the video!

      Even for city mileage that MPG seem low. Are burning oil? The 1ZZ motor in your car has some oil burning issues when the oil wasn't changed on regular basis and another symptom is poor MPG. Be sure to check your oil often with that kind of mileage because running low on oil will cause permanent damage. Good luck in your educational pursuits.

    • @KiwiPowerNZ
      @KiwiPowerNZ 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Michael Borquez I thought the oil burning was only in engines from 2000 to 2003 US manufactured ones.

    Good video Sir! question: when trying to change the transmission fluid, is it wise to remove the oil pan and clean it and replace the gasket, OR just drain and replace the fluid? We just bought a 2010 with 51k mi in immaculate condition.

    • @Sunshone7311
      @Sunshone7311  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Drain and fill is all that is required, the newer Toyota WS fluid doesn't require changing under normal usage. Be sure to use the Toyota fluid, it does make a difference.

    Just bought a 2010 S model a couple weeks ago that was CPO. I enjoy it so far but wish the engine sounded better. Maybe I'll just get an aftermarket muffler or something to drowned it out. Also the Goodyear Eagle SA's that came with it are horribly cupping so I need to switch those out with some Michelins soon. Nice vid

    • @KiwiPowerNZ
      @KiwiPowerNZ 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andrew Knight Is it just the Corolla's that are made in America that have drum brakes? My car is made in Japan for the New Zealand market, shipped brand new. Any model you choose comes with front brakes ventilated disc rear brakes solid disc.

    • @KiwiPowerNZ
      @KiwiPowerNZ 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That probably means you can just buy the parts straight from Japan to convert it over to discs and it will just bolt straight on since the cars come with them from the factory in some markets.
