@@TheClackShack haha, it looks like her tanning bed. Does she get a cut of the commission for each one sold? Really great video and advice. BTW, do you sell plans for the laser enclosure? I looked on ETSY but I did not see it.
I am really torn between the Roly and XTools S1 as a choice. I've never used a camera as my only laser experience is a pretty cheap one from years ago. I sometimes have uneven surfaces so the motorize Z-axis is an appealing option in the S1. One of the things I'm looking to engrave is about a 12-14" in diameter log and the S1 also edges out the Roly in bed size. I don't need to engrave the whole piece of the log, just fit it in the machine to engrave part of it. I don't own Lightburn so that is a cost that would be added to the Roly purchase and it makes them pretty close in price. Any suggestions or reason to pick one over the other? I have watched a ton of videos on both as the cost is gonna hurt either way.
I think your logic is correct. Both are great machines but make sure the working characteristics suit your needs. If the uneven surfaces is a requirement, the S1 is the one to use. The process takes some setup but it will work.
Thank you for all of your videos and the great information!!! Would you mind sharing where you got the riser legs and the space gauge holder on your Roly Lasermatic?.....I think my first laser (probably a Roly) is in my near future :) Tumblers, slate & wood coasters, light metal engraving, some acrylic. I really like the 30W with the switch that turns it down to 10W for finer detail.
I am looking for a laser for my leather work and engraving on my custom knives. I use stainless and carbon steels.. my leather is up to 6-7 oz. And want to cut out and engrave. But I have no experience with design software. That is my biggest fear lol. Thanks again.
Thank you for all the wonderful content! Been studying up on lasers and your videos are on heavy rotation. Can you recommend a good pair of safety “laser grade” glasses? Thank you!
One thing I don't see being talked about on The roly Automation is Spot size. lasermatic spot size for the 20w laser is 0.24 x 0.12 ,But wecreat 20w is 0.08*0.10 mm ,and x tool is even smaller at 0.08*0.06 mm. Would this larger spot size on the lasermatic affect engraving quality ?
In some manner maybe,I do not stress about spot size. Because most all diodes have a spot size that is plenty small enough for the mediums we use. I have all three machines and they all do a good job at engraving. If you want really small spot size, you need to stay with low output machines. I prefer faster speeds
@@thespymawsta cameras on any single camera system are gonna vary. With my calibration, I get 1mm or better on my typical material. The problem is when the surface of the material is lower or higher, it effect accuracy. That is why my enclosures are build with a movable bed. This keeps the material surface consistent
i got the D1 10w in December due to money and now also got a K40 Co2 and i do wish i didnt get the D1 waist of time and the amount of issues i have had if i was going to give advice now is dont get anything below 20w

@@TheClackShack I know they each have their use depending on the particular project. Just wondering if you like (enjoy) any one machine over the others. I didn't hear you mention that. If I missed it, I apologize

I grabbed a Creality CR Laser Falcon 10W for $251 dollars back in November. Due to that being the budget I had to work with.
Luckily my laser came with air assist but I built my own enclosure.
Sounds like a good move. Have fun...

I got the Xtool D1 Pro 20W Refurbished Then I built the encloser then I got the Air assit and Honeycomb I pieced together
works great for me
Sounds like an economical build, but effective.

Got them from Patrick over at Light Source engraving.

Sounds like you will need 2 lasers. One for leather and another for the steel
What do you think about Omtech
Never had one but many of the companies use the same parts to make machines.

These are what I use. Make sure they are the appropriate frequency protection for your type of machine. amzn.to/49rz7vr
Will do. Thank you. Appreciate your time. I just bought an F1 and will hopefully add a P2 by the end of the year.
I know there are times when I may use the F1 without the shield completely shut, ie tumblers 👍🏼
nice show, ty, im getting a wecreat to start.

How many lasers do you have in your shop?
I have 7 that I use regularly and a few spares on the wall. I also have a machine for large open projects. I have a mix of diodes, CO2 and fiber.
