    JD. I watch your videos just about every day. But here is something I would love to see you you. You’re always talking about the fuel economy on your GMC because it’s a diesel. I agree with you that the fuel economy of a diesel is superior versus a gas engine, but, with diesel, running anywhere from $.50 to a dollar a gallon more than regular gas I would like to see you do, a video on the cost per mile instead of the miles per gallon. I had a ram 2500 with the Cummins 6.7 diesel and I would get 22 on the road and 16 to 17 around town. I sold that and purchased a 2500 gas And my fuel mileage on the highway, if I was lucky, I got 17 and in town 13 miles to the gallon. But with the price difference of diesel versus gas, I felt like I could go a lot further with the gas truck because of the lower price. And then, of course, with the diesel, you have to figure in def prices too. So once again, do a video on the cost per mile Between a diesel truck and a gas truck I think that would give a better overview than just versus miles to the gallon.

    • @midwesttechthusiast
      @midwesttechthusiast 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Just divide the price per gallon by optimum MPG. My locale is 3.82/gallon on diesel and 3.38/gallon on regular. 3.82/27 is $0.14 per mile vs 3.38/22 is $0.15 per mile.

    I would never pay $80k for a pickup truck, we as consumers are the only ones to blame for these absolutely outrageous prices that we are now seeing for pickup trucks. I would rather drive that F250 Camper Special that is lurking in the background, I remember when pickups were just that a truck that could tow and haul your 5th wheel trailer or make runs to the dump and were relatively cheap. I don't need all the bells and whistles like Leather,50 inches of LCD Screens, power running boards, or a Panoramic Sunroof that will shatter during the first hail storm. I guess that is why to this day I still drive my 25 year old Dodge as it does everything I need and want a pickup to do.

      I make dump runs in my F350 dually crew cab. It hauls my tractor and in the summer has a camper on it. Worth every dollar I paid for it. They're expensive, but with the new UAW contract and increase in raw material costs - they are not going to be getting any cheaper.

    It’s very hard for you to praise the GMC (GM in general) trucks ain’t it? Lol. I say that because of your take on the beds and especially getting in the beds. The GM trucks have the best on the market by far system with their bumper steps. You don’t even have to open the tailgate. Just use the bumper step. The bed area too with their much wider inside dimensions and all the tie downs, but bed access is something GM is way ahead on. Ford has joined them in the HD category too.
    I agree about the 12 volt outlets. They need to add that back for the refreshed interiors. Atleast one.

    Definitely the Toyota, especially when speaking of luxury. A panoramic moonroof is a standard offering for a luxury vehicle nowadays. The tiny GMC moonroof is dated. The seats have also been terrible in GMC trucks for years. Also, the mood lighting in the Toyota is nice. It's even better than the mood lighting in the F-150. The GMC doesn't offer any mood lighting at all.

      The bed is way too small in the new Tundra. Toyota shrank it vs the bed in the 2nd gen Tundra. The diesel engine in the GMC is the best half-ton engine on the market IMO. Both are nice trucks though, I just don't give a flip about "mood lighting" or moon roofs.

    As a Toyata tech. The GMC. Lots of people are starting to see what techs have been saying for years. The quality has been going down to the equivalent of big three rather than exceed. People will talk about the legendary durability and that's what it is. A legend. Tell me, why are the only toyotas you heard of going over 250k, all old Toyotas? Surley by now, you would see plenty of 2012's and up still on the roads right? but you dont do you? Want to know why? I'll tell you what a yota engineer told me when I confronted him about that. We're in the business to sell cars not keep them running. Want to know Toyota's engineered super expensive part designed to fail in time past monitored metrics part? The ABS pump module. That has their CAN network terminating resister and network branches all connected to it. Yup, that little module that has rubber seals and constantly pressurizes and depressurizes with fluid is all one piece with a critical computer network component. An 800-1200 part, one hour diag, 3-4 hours to replace, got to flush the brakes, program it and it takes two techs to do. Do the math, thats roughly a 2k job on an at the time older car. These are the opinions of a tech cause i know yota is gonna read 'em. Just showing my appreciation for being told diagnostic time is built into jobs where the diag tree says check with known good part or .2 scan tool time

    If you plan to keep the truck, buy the Toyota. GM’s 1/2 tons have a history of bad engines and transmissions, I suspect nothing has changed. Fuel economy might be better on the GM but diesel is $1.00 more per gallon so it doesn’t matter. GM has leaf spring so probably better for towing. GM interior is quieter and fit and finish is better but seats are uncomfortable. Toyota interior will start to rattle all over and window trim is bad. Neither truck is worth the money. Toyota has an awesome complete roll down rear window. GM has a cooler tailgate. The non air suspension Toyota rides much better. (I’ve owned both 😀)

      I towed my mini ex with a Ford 3.5L for years, around 10k lbs with the trailer, and 500-600 miles a week. Sold it with 178k miles and never an issue with the powertrain. Gas milage was terrible, but company was paying for it, plus 56 cents a mile for wear and tear on my vehicle, probably assuming it was a diesel HD, but I only paid $37k for it in 2015 and had it paid off in 2 years mostly with the milage reimbursement.

      @@dcl97 The 3.5 isn't eating crank bearings like the new Toyota TT V6.
