Simplify Vegetable Gardening will be available on 16th Feb 2024. Pre-order now to be the first to get a copy of this book that has all my personal tips. geni.us/Simpli... A garlic braid or plait is a perfect way to store your garlic. However, there are more benefits to braiding or plaiting garlic than just its appearance. There's also the convenience of being able to grab a clove or two whenever you need it and the garlic stays fresher longer because of improved air circulation. Braiding or plaiting garlic can seem a little intimidating at first, but once you get the basics down, you can make these fun plaits in no time.
    Join Tony from UK Here We Grow, UKHWG, as he shows you how to plait garlic bulbs easy and step by step in this simple method. Tidy up your crop and hang them tidy in the shed.
    You can also store Onions in the same fashion and we will do an episode of this with onions later as we dry them off.

      Lorraine, the secret is to keep it on the bench and pull each clove very tight before twisting, and ensure you use all the same size of bulbs or work from big to small. give it another shot

    All you need now is to get on your bike! I used to plait my onions when I lived in Wiltshire. One day one of the village busy bodies caught my in the act, she just stood gobsmacked at the sight. She just knew then that I was of the peasant class and never came round again. I found it was a good method of storage. I have given up on onions since living in West Wales and understand why leeks are the national veg. I am glad your little girl likes doing things with her dad, I love it when the grandchildren actually say this is much more fun than the iPad.

    Good video, man.
    Not sure why but when I was watching the video it had subtitles on which were very accurate to what was being said. Google obviously recognises Welsh easier than it recognises Geordie accents as subtitles on some of my videos are comedy gold.

    • @simplifygardening
      @simplifygardening  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pondguru Richard you proc had the cc tab on the bottom of the video activated. click the cc button see if they go

    • @simplifygardening
      @simplifygardening  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pondguru oh and i edited what google puts in there. not all videos but some of them

    • @pondguru
      @pondguru 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the captions went when I clicked the icon - I would be on all day fixing some of the subtitles on my videos so I don't bother with that.

    • @simplifygardening
      @simplifygardening  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it took me a while Richard but there are two big reasons I do it. I would like to do it on all but just don't have the time. the first is I have some deaf and hard of hearing viewers who have asked me to do it. second is it massively helps with ranking videos as it takes all written content. take this video, it's currently number 5 in the search for how to plait garlic. so the video has more of a chance of being viewed when you don't have the subs you have :)

    • @pondguru
      @pondguru 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure how useful the input of the edited subtitles would be for me as it is the niche educational videos which seem to do really well and as far as subs to views goes have you seen my last few efforts? - the views are in the crapper.
      Just as well it's a hobby or I'd be hanging in a tree now with some of my video stats, lol

    Looks a lot easier than plaiting them around a string noose. Cliff did slightly different method a few days ago so I reckon you have covered most options. Had to smile at the out take 😄😄😄😄 You forgot to add a link to her channel in the descriptions 👍🏻👍🏻

      if you want to end up plaiting garlic, i suggest you start plaiting with something simpler, ribbons, thick string, long cable ties, or thin cable, maybe you have a daughter or grand daughter that could show you.

    • @simplifygardening

      A couple of weeks as a rule but it will depend on the weather humidity and so on it has to be completely dry before planting or it will rot

      Failed at pulling it tight so some of the bulbs fell out. Some broke off as I twisted them while braiding. I'm not good at braiding my hair either ;) Next year I ask my garden helper (husband) to hold them tight while I move the stems.

    Caitlin wants us to leave a comment, eh? Ok, here it is : Kids will always show you up! Lol! Love it! That's how I plait my soft neck garlic. I grow soft neck garlic here, not cold enough for the hard necked variety, just doesn't do as well.

    That is the cutest video that I have seen. It is wonderful to see a father interact with his daughter the way that you do. She is beautiful. Thank you for the garlic braid instructions also.

      Hi Dorothy, Thanks for your comment I am glad you enjoyed the video. Caitlyn has grown so much since this video but still loves coming to the garden with her dad :)
