I wanna be a nurse, but all my relatives judge me so badly like dream big, be a doctor, no matter how good nurse you will be there's always a difference between being called a nurse and a DOCTOR! it really makes me wanna cry sometimes but now I've decided no matter what everyone say I have chosen this path and I'm gonna rock 😤💗💅🏻
Don't listen to your family, follow what you want, what you wish, you decide and make it happen, been a Nurse in any specialty makes you more valuable, and been like a nurse anesthetist is other option too, best!
My family has said the same thing to me for over a decade. "Dream big" as if nursing isn't a fulfilling career. It took me a decade later to realize that they were wrong and that nursing is just as important and fulfilling as a physician. I'm now thankful that I've realized this and I'm glad you have to. You got this!
I chose nursing for the same reasons as you! The flexibility to work only 3 days a week and have 4 days off to pursue other interests is a blessing. Love my career for its flexibility but also feel so fulfilled helping other people ☺️
This hits home. I’m 30 and just started my first nursing job in a hospital. I had every intention of doing med school after my BSN. After working as a nurse for only two months, not only do I love the schedule and freedom and leaving work at work with a job that will guarantee me a middle class lifestyle, I just don’t have any desire to be a Doctor after watching our residents and attendings. It just doesn’t look how I imagined at all. I mentioned my Premed aspirations to a very kind patient of mine who asked, and she told me, “why? We need nurses, there are so few as is”. I thought long and hard the following weeks and asked myself over and over again, why do I want to become a physician? No matter how fancy of an answer I told myself, it always came down to helping people, which I already do as a nurse. As a 30 year old, the excitement of pursuing a prestigious and wealthy career…fades. It’s just not a priority as it is when you’re fresh out of high school and care about material things and social status or trying to prove everyone wrong. I am on the front lines and I am helping patients…and I asked myself again, do I value the prestige and money, or do I value life and time, something that is irreplaceable. I think I am choosing time. When you’re older and more mature pursuing this career, all you want is balance. I help people, and I have a career that will afford a roof over my head, travels, and whatever I need really. No I won’t be getting a brand new Tesla, but 70k+ is more than enough and your happiness with income stagnate after that number. Very few people are lucky enough to have that social support and aspiration to go straight to med school after high school, but everyone needs to understand, there are other careers besides a physician. As a nurse, I am able to give my patients 100% because I have the schedule and time to give myself 100%. Back to work tomorrow.
I needed to hear this. Thank you for writing this comment :) (from someone who only had doctor in their mind since grade 10 but now wants to pursue RN at 24 years old :))
I’m a first year medical student and it’s extremely hard. I have never liked another degree, however, I’m so stressed and anxious due to it being so demanding. I’m having a difficult time concentrating and being motivated, I hope everything improves or else I will end up failing everything. Becoming a doctor is extremely difficult because everyone is always telling us that we won’t be able to do it and our teachers give us impossible tasks for us fail. I have found comfort in your videos, every time I’m here I feel motivated as I know that life will get better, it’s just a matter of time. I hope I make it because my mental health is holding me back. Take care and I'm so grateful for your guidance 💖
Heyy, im also in first year of medical school and i relate to your comment SO MUCH. Seriously it’s extremely exhausting and i too feel so unmotivated and so incapable or unintelligent in doing tasks as compared to others but what i can say for both of us is that we can do it, we need to keep working and we’ll never give up no matter how hard it is. Wishing you success!! 💕
I wanted to be a flight attendant until I heard how brutal it was from Jeenie Weenie… so I’m looking into other possibilities and I’m looking into deciding on what I want to do in the future and yes I’m only going in 9th grade but I want put less stress on myself later
I’m so thankful for healthcare workers, y’all are angels walking. I just take care of babies all day long, so I can’t imagine what you go through dealing with people at their worsts.
I am one of those that was thinking of getting into meds school. I was working on the pre reqs but decided to go into nursing instead. So glad I did, ended up having 2 girls right before and during nursing school. I already had 2 kids before that so it was very rough for me. Now I've been an icu nurse almost 6months, night shift, and I still get to spend lots of time with my kids. Honestly I'm happier being a nurse and don't regret choosing nursing over med school.
Wow Susie🤍 proud of you for going through nursing school and being a mom! I hope you know your journey inspires other moms considering going into nursing 👌🏼
I totally agree with you! Not continuing to pursue med school really doesn’t mean that you’re not smart enough but rather to the fact that you’re no longer sure if you can and you want to have a commitment to work longer hours to help people. I saw how brutal residency is and it really turned me off. I’m so glad I tried to work as a nurse cause I’m sure that I’d be regretting being in med school now. BTW, really love your contents because you’re so relatable. Stay safe!
I was also a premed, and for two years I was studying prerequisites for it. But having moved to a different state and needing to wait a year, I honestly lost the interest. But what came about was the idea of wanting to also really enjoy life. So for a while, I was kind of stuck in what I wanted to be. Doctors are amazing and do their best, but their work/life balance wasn’t something I looked forward to the more thought I put into that also. So I thought about nursing. You can still give great direct patient care, build relationships and be able to make a difference all the while if you are part-time, you can do what you love and take care of personal matters on your own time. Make a family or explore the world. So I think nursing was a great idea in both aspects. So it’s honestly so refreshing to think I’m not the only one that didn’t have a similar mindset. And despite having had studied already two years and needing to start over somewhat, I’m learning that it’s okay that I may be a bit behind. I’m still young at 22 and if things go to plan, I should start the nursing program next fall. Wish me luck!

This hits HOME so much! Girl i was in med school for 6 months HATING EVERYTHING about it. I was doing well, but I ended up with the worst anxiety 😦. I thought about my future (im married and want kids) and thought what will I do? I’m a super creative person. I want to write a book one day, or work on my art (Not saying this is impossible but for ME I just couldn’t see it working out) so one day I walked out of the classroom and never walked back. I ended up getting a nursing degree and love the freedom it comes with. NP is always an option if I feel the drive but it was the best decision I made for myself. Good for you for catching this on early!
I survived year 1 & I dreaded returning but now I’m back for year 2... I cry every day but I’m scared to start all over and I feel guilty about leaving bc I’m technically “capable” of being here academically, even as I suffer behind closed doors mentally. If it is alright for me to ask, what was the last straw that gave you the courage to leave? I keep going through the motions but it feels like this isn’t my life anymore, so I’d appreciate any guidance you’re comfortable offering me
@@LisaKirova good luck mate, I wish you the best! Be strong. Maybe one day I'll study medicine too everyone says that first years are the wrost, hold on you can do it!
@@LisaKirova if you feel this way, it's probably best to stop and leave. As a nurse, I realize that life's to short to feel guilty if it interferes with your wellbeing. There's no way this med grind will stop (unless you do family medicine or something like that).

Thanx for such a beautifully honest video i hv been a doctor 4 10yrs nw and most days the stress is so much i don't want to go to work. Respect to Kevin been where he was and its really challenging.
This is such a great & honest video for why you didn’t choose to pursue medical school. I really appreciate that you didn’t bash physicians and those on that path, but instead admired your partner for it. Im sure having an understanding partner like you makes things a little easier for Kevin! Rooting for you and your future pursuits!
Currently waiting to get accepted into my veterinary technician program and I’m already getting questions, “Why not just become a DVM or go to regular nursing school?” and I feel the exact same way. Not the lifestyle that I want but still have that drive and passion for health care. Love this video!
If you think you have the time and capacity to become dvm or nursing than I would say do it. Technician are great personal and super essential but they are usually unfairly compensate for their hard work.
Miki, you are a gem. Not many people can think like this. I am a third-year med student who ended up at a US MD school after a long winding road. I used to work as a tech consultant. Pay was good. Benefits were awesome. Work hour was not bad. However, I had a life-changing moment that made me want to become a physician. Unfortunately, I never realized how hard it is to work in the healthcare field until I worked as a scribe at a private practice. Med school is super challenging, which I could never imagine as an engineering major. Becoming a physician takes much more effort and time than what most people would think. It's an experience you cannot truly understand until you go through the process. I am glad that you figured it out beforehand by observing other residents and physicians. You are a wise lady.
I've always felt guilty for choosing nursing over medicine but listening to you explain why you didn't go into med school made me feel understood and relieved so thanks for that🥰☺️
Im a Chem student. Thanks for telling me your honest thoughts about why you decided to stay as a nurse. They comforted me in this unstable period of time-online classes, not much prospect for future job, etc.
@@elhamhemat572 MCAT is only the entrance exams to study medicine. You do another 4 years studying medicine and then if you pass you qualify as a doctor. So to become a doctor you need to do BSc and then another four years medical school. And then internship aswell as residency.
@@lizannearoundtheworl Thanks for the information, but I am already studying in a medical school. Both my parents, 3 sisters, and 6 cousins are doctors.
In india actually it's less expensive (but you have to crack neet lol 180 questions in 180 minutes with negative marking and must score 550+ out of 720 to be a doctor)
Yep yep. Everyone has their own path. I was thinking of applying to med school when my husband was applying, but then I realized that it was not for me. I didn't want to have that LONGterm commitment and invest so much money into my grad school especially when I wanted to have a baby soon 😅. Reading your comment kinda reassured me. Thank you!

Also an RN here, and I must say yes! Exactly, I also planned to be a physician but when I worked as a nurse and got surrounded by medical students/doctors. Whooa, they’re like not having enough sleep and thought “I love sleep” like every minute counts. So yeah, same reason with you for not pursuing med school. 😂
i had pimples all my life during my teenage years and all the way through half of my college years. now after 30 I am not experiencing a single pimple in years. what a breeze. it is a hormonal thing. after all our hormones level do change and we face greater problems other than just pimples. like hormonal fluctuations, mood swings, infertility, gynecological issues, being a women isn't easy.
I really needed this video today. Been feeling so so lost about what to do with my life, and you gave the best advice ever. Appreciate you so so much ❤️❤️
I also chose Nursing for the same reasons. I like the flexibility of the nursing schedule where I can work 3 days doing 12 hr shifts and have the rest of the week myself. Having a proper work life balance is something I strive for. Although I’m in first semester and sometimes doubt myself on my success in finishing my program. At the end of the day, it’s all going to be worth it.
This is also the situation I am in. I'm currently a 1st year nursing student and I also had the intention to become a doctor but after seeing first hand what comes before being a surgeon, I thought that I don't have the patience and dedication to be like that. Almost exactly the same as you. I think it's too early to say so for myself because I'm just a first year but I also really believe that nursing is a beautiful profession. It also pays well so might as well just commit to nursing with the goal of being an OR nurse, get a few years of experience, and then would I choose if I'll still pursue a medical degree or if I can proceed with a masters degree in nursing.
That’s what I did, I went to Nursing school first, then Years later I went to Med school and I decided I didn’t want to be a Doctor, I’d just rather be a critical care NP instead or a CRNA. So I’m doing my Master’s now.
Well, i just like you.. during my high school, i was thought that i want to be a doctor, dentist and nurse.. but, because med school is really pricey so i choose to best a nurse and also i got a schollarship for nursing..

@@mohsenjaffri2001 omg that’s cool i hope you succeed. what are the steps for that do you just enroll to a BSN program and take pre med courses at the same time?
@@aaammm287 actually I’m doing those pre med courses with my gen Ed’s for example I’ve taken Bio 1, chem 1, composition 2, statistics, and pharmacology.
Just want to say, BSN is a great pre-med degree. You get the time and experience to determine for yourself if you want to pursue being a doctor. I don't think that you're "taking up someone else's spot" if you see your nursing degree as a stepping stone. I mean, if those people were truly qualified, then they should've gotten in. A lot of my classmates went on to pursue a medical degree after graduating from nursing. When internship came, they were better equipped than the rest of their peers.
Ur story is literally the same as mine! I went to nursing school with an intention of becoming a doctor. But now I have realized being a DOCTOR is not my thing!!
I was in pre-med studying to be a PA now I switched to nursing cause I just felt it was too hard and not worth it for me. I’m nervous if I have made the right decision.
I majored in social work and then decide I want a major in nursing LVN but before that I wanna get a try for the field first so I went for CNA training. Oh boy - 😨 goodbye. I just can’t handle the environment - the sadness of post acute care just down right kill me. I think I’m too sensitive and so I never look back.
I’m a first year medical student so I totally understand if you are feeling unmotivated or anxious. Reply if you’d like and we can cheer each other up. It’s hard but we can do this 💪🏼
aaa my parents pushed really hard for me to be a doctor, so I'm graduating in a year with my degree. TBH, I don't like the time and dedication demands that everyone makes on me, and I feel like I'm going to lose whatever precious little sleep I manage to get at night knowing my patient is in the hospital and I'm responsible for their life. T_T I think I would really like being a nurse. But I spent too much time, effort, and most importantly, money to get here so I feel like there's no turning back. You made the smart decision, great vid :)
I appreciate your honesty and transparency in this video! These are the things people dont really talk about it, but that are important to know. Medical school is tough. The competition is crazy, the workload is never-ending, and the responsibilities are immense. That being said, there is no other profession for me personally that would equate to the amount of self-fulfillment there is with being a doctor. I am currently in my final year of medical school, and applying for residency which I know will be an even more stressful experience. But, for me, it is worth it.

Agreed! to be a nurse or a doctor or whatever you want has NOTHING to do with intelligence. It is a lifestyle choice. Your life is much more than just work. Gotta do what you like and what is suitable for you.
To become a doctor you don’t need to be intelligent anyways, you need determination and hard work (studying the right way for you) and a good daily routine. If you were getting straight As in high school that won’t work for you in med school, hard work beats natural intelligence, so whoever said ppl only become nurses cuz they failed to get into med school or that they aren’t smart is stupid
Just trying to give hope and encourage to ppl who didn’t always excel through school or maybe even failed and have dreams of being a doctor, and that we shouldnt degrade nurses
You definitely need some form of innate intelligence to get through med school and there’s no comparison to the academic struggle between an MD/DO program and a BSN where there’s no in depth science and where there’s a significantly lower academic requirement to enter. Curb your bullshit
The reason why I am pursing to get a BSN and work as a RN is because I don’t really like the job offers for pre -med degrees like working in labs or assisting the doctor. I wanna work with a doctor instead of working under the doctor. That’s why I chose nursing because I like to interact and help people and working for 3 days and getting 4 days off is awesome and it’s flexible. Like nursing called my name. So right know I’m College I’m trying to get a BSN and doing premed prerequisites. I wanna either become a MD doctor or NP family medicine.
Me and my younger brother are both nursing students, but i'm the only one between us who is considering to go into medical school after. His reason for not wanting to be a doctor is the same as yours, Miki. He loves his lifestyle. p.s. From where I'm from, a BSN is considered a pre-med although it is't as "well equiped" as other pre-med programs because it has more practicals than theories compared to biology and laboratory sciences. They often tell you here that in nursing you have a theoretical knowledge about everything, but they are not as deep as other pre-med programs. However, we (BSN) also study biochemistry, and microbiology and parasitology; and some schools have physics as a requisite in their curriculum for BSN.
My main problem is the stupid BEEPING ATI TEAs test why? why do we need to take certain tests or courses to determined we're ''fit'' so judgemental, but wish me luck i'm shooting for LPN, RN Bachelors, ICU 1 or 2 years,, and become an CRNA if not i'll stick with outpatient nursing but like you said they're so many opportunities with the nursing degree.
I just saw a video of yours fir tje first time. The one where you offer him money or marriage. His response was so precious. What a keeper he is. I hope you did marry him.

I am in nursing school right now and this advice kinda hits home! I'll be happy as a RN, no need to further my education!
Yes! I love that 🙌🏼💯

Thanx for such a beautifully honest video i hv been a doctor 4 10yrs nw and most days the stress is so much i don't want to go to work. Respect to Kevin been where he was and its really challenging.
This is such a great & honest video for why you didn’t choose to pursue medical school.

Love this video!
good luck!! i'm sure you'll get in :)
If you think you have the time and capacity to become dvm or nursing than I would say do it. Technician are great personal and super essential but they are usually unfairly compensate for their hard work.
Not to be a Debbie downer but at least human nurses, MD's and DVM's make great money while vet techs ehh well.. ...
@@MrTmenzo No worries. I’m aware of the pay, but thanks for the heads up. I got in, and couldn’t be happier with my decision

Yep yep. Everyone has their own path. I was thinking of applying to med school when my husband was applying, but then I realized that it was not for me. I didn't want to have that LONGterm commitment and invest so much money into my grad school especially when I wanted to have a baby soon 😅. I chose to be a nurse practitioner and I'm not regretting it at all. I love my job. It does have pros and cons, but I'm happy with my choice!
Oh! I am 19 and always wanted to become a doctor. The thing is that I also want to start a family early (kinda weird at my age to be already thinking about it) and I am afraid med school will take all my time. I thought nursing would be a better alternative since it is also my pre-med major but I am still not sure because I feel like giving up medecine will make me a lazy coward... The more I think about it the more am glad that I didn't go for medicine. It is a good profession but I can't handle working like they do😪
Also an RN here, and I must say yes!
Appreciate you so so much ❤️❤️
your explanation was so good for being unscripted i don't think i could explain myself that well if someone asked me such a deep question on the spot
Girl, I’m nearly 30 and still get breakouts! Usually right before my time of month 😭💀 Oh, the joys of being a woman 🥵🤣
Totally agree it always boil down to what fit you the most. If everyone want or meant to do the same thing than we wouldn't have different profession.
I love you! You and Kevin are the CUTEST COUPLE! And I am the first like for your video!
That’s what I did, I went to Nursing school first, then Years later I went to Med school and I decided I didn’t want to be a Doctor, I’d just rather be a critical care NP instead or a CRNA. So I’m doing my Master’s now.

Choosing a major is a huge decision…. Take your time.. pray for guidance… do your research ❤️

aaa my parents pushed really hard for me to be a doctor, so I'm graduating in a year with my degree.
Miki I also wanted to be a doctor!! But I decided that I’ll be an RN. Start college in a few weeks and I’m super nervous😖✨

Agreed! to be a nurse or a doctor or whatever you want has NOTHING to do with intelligence.
@@Minelucious i mean intelligence can be earned through hard work, working hard efficiently
Just trying to give hope and encourage to ppl who didn’t always excel through school or maybe even failed and have dreams of being a doctor, and that we shouldnt degrade nurses
