    DV Gundappa was a gentle, silent superpower, a heart and intellectual beyond comparison; it will be beautiful if his life is studied by all

    This is composed by Poet D. V. Gundappa of the Manku Thimmana Kagga fame. Poet DV Gundappa has composed about 60 Anthapura Geethe, in appreciation of shila balikas of Belur-Halebedu temple and his ankita is Chennakeshava of Belur temple. What a great composition, what a great rendering by Sri TMK full of Bhava.

    Absolutely beautiful. Is there a reason mridangam bass side is left completely out of the mix? Almost like the channel got muted completely when it was mixed down.

    • @FirstEditionArtsChannel
      @FirstEditionArtsChannel  6 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      We don't get multi-track audio files from the sound engineer who records the concert. We get a stereo mixed track recorded directly off the mixer board that we use in the final video. Recording a multi-track live is rather expensive and currently out of our budgets. As a result we cannot do much to rectify any shortcomings in the mix. We do however attempt to tweak the quality of the final mix to make it as optimal as we possibly can.
      After listening to the audio on a pair of near field desktop speakers, we noticed that the left side of the mridangam is there in the mix but arguably softer in volume. Also it depends on what device you may be hearing and watching the video. Smaller mobile devices don't reproduces low-end frequencies very well.
      You may also notice in some camera angles that the placement of the microphone on the left side is quite a distance away from the face of the mridangam. This could be the result of the low volume. Sometimes the artistes move the microphones away in the course of the performance and this may go unnoticed by the sound engineer.
      The bottom line is that we try to give our viewers the best possible experience given the circumstances of documenting a live performance. We too are sticklers to achieve optimal results in quality, but unfortunately we don't always hit the mark.

      @narayanagaula 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Thank you for detailed reply. I was listening on admittedly cheap monitor speakers but they do the job. I could hear some of the bass like you but I wasn't sure if it was just being picked up by the other mic. Realizing that the kanjira bass is also much weaker than normal, I think the engineer just had an excessive bass-cut filter. Thank you for all the effort, I am really happy to know these concerts are being organized although I wish I lived in India so I could come in person.

      Translation
      What are you up to ? Oh! Beautiful, the one who speaks with the parrot !
      What’s the news, Oh! the one who brings rejoice to the soul ?
      Who are cursing and to whom are you praising ?
      What secrets are you sharing with your beloved parrot ?
      Are you sharing your worries ? or your delightful thoughts ?
      What secret happiness are you sharing with the bird ?
      What is the Love message that you are sending to your beloved (Kanta)?
      Oh! Beautiful, tell me, I am being perturbed !
      Why do you trust this wild parrot ?
      Why would you tell it your inner most secrets ?
      Don’t you trust anybody else to convey your message to Chennakeshava ?,
      The Wise who could describe your Beauty ?

    Dear FEA it would be better if you spell it as Behag instead of Bihag. In the Hindustani system both the variants of the spelling are used but in Carnatic it's mostly Behag

    While I applaud T M Krishna’s adding a kannada poem, it has ruined DVG’s wonderful poetic language due to his wrongly placed stresses on syllables and elongations in the wrong places ,I wish some kannada musician had sung it

    • @valpurusho9676
      @valpurusho9676 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      You may be partly right, because TM's mother tongue may not be Kannada. But please remember that you have the freedom to get a Kannada musician to sing and listen to as many time as possible. No body is stopping you. Meanwhile, please kindly note that a Prof in Mysore is applauding TM for the Bhava that he has wrung in this rendition. TM Sir brought this poem to the ears of many music lovers with his touching brief of the meaning. If possible please direct me to a rendition of this poem that meets your elongation expectation.
