    This was a great video, very informative and concise. I was able to understand almost everything but I agree with the other commenter that it could be helpful to provide captions or subtitles.

    Why are surge arrestors installed just before transformer’s terminal (6:15)? Can they be installed at the distance of, for example, 100 meters from transformers?

    Great video, but I have a question that I cannot get a good answer for from any Electrical Engineer that I have asked. I work for a power generation company and in some of our older substations we have surge arrestors rated at 24kV on a 34.5kV system and we all know that the voltage on a 34.5kV phase to ground measurement is around 20kV so that makes the peak voltage at around 28kV, so is the surge arrestor actually shunting the excess voltage (approximately 4kV) to ground 60 times every second ? In our newer substations those surge arrestors are rated at 29kV which alleviates this problem. Can you please help me understand how the surge arrestors are not wearing out very rapidly?

    Just one question. What is the name of the software you used to design that power system?

    The purpose of the rings is to control the electric field distribution to prevent flashovers, right?

    I have one doubt tho .. Suppose a lightning strike of say, a million volts occurs, you seem to mention that this will pass through the surge arrestor. But what prevents the lightning from already passing and damaging through the other equipment because these will have lesser resistance than the surge arrestor?

    • @zonkeboss
      @zonkeboss 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is where the protection systems will kick in, where the CTs and PTs are transducers and send signals to circuit breakers and switchgear that react very fast to cut off power immediately. That is why in power systems we have protection zones.

    • @nicholasrapose196
      @nicholasrapose196 ปีที่แล้ว

      The lightning takes the least path of resistance to get to ground. The surge arresters are designed and configured to be the least path to ground so that lightning will go to ground through the surge arresters instead of to ground through the expensive equipment.

      Software used:
      1. Blender and Maya for 3d Model
      2. After effect for Compositing & AV Editing
      3. Some times Photoshop for Photo Editing

      Might be Yes, where you heard about this term "Surge absorber"

    • @digvijaydosad9906
      @digvijaydosad9906 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my book of diploma...
      According to book a capacitor in parallel or inductor in series is connected in line to reduce or absorb high frequency waves to protect system against high frequency waves produced by lightning or switching...
      This whole arrangement is called surge absorber...
      The most common type pf surge absorber is ferranti surge absorber
