Went in to paramedicine first but realised it's a bit of a cul-de-sac of a career. Medicine wasn't that much longer than nursing but came with a better income, more stable career, more options, and the ability to practice at a higher level - so here I am. If money was everything I wouldn't be here (it'll take a while to recover from 4 yrs of lost income) but it certainly helps make it a viable option.
interesting take :) I think a few people have a similar perspective with medicine adjacent careers. they say it's a good introduction into the healthcare system but then I've heard a few people say they are unable to keep evolving after a few years and then switch to life as a doctor.
@@imasperharry I mean I decided im going to be a nurse practitioner. I'm also going to get my MD, and complete a year of residency, so I can get my medical license. then i can get board certified as a np without completing residency, and still have a license to practice medicine. i know i want to do medicine, and help people.. but, other than that? There is actually nothing I want. I don't care about a girlfriend, house, fancy car etc.
I think its a bad reason as we shouldn't profit off people being sick, and rbe more people who join for the money, the more medicine is becoming privatised and the access to health services is getting worse. Also doctors rarely advocate for ither professions, they are mainly self interestes. Allied health workers in the hospital dont get access to overtime, they stay back unpaid
