    I've rescued three Akita's in my time and I'll tell you that no one will come close to harming me. The Akita's are always watching your back because of the bond of loyalty they have with you. They are great with people but will size them up first to see if there trusting. I would put the Akita in the Top 3 !!!

      actuallyn Huskys do make good guard dogs. I've got a 6 yr old female siberian husky and i know for sure she'd bark/attack an intruder if there was one. I'm not saying that you're wrong or whatever but from my experience she does make a great guard dog, she's never been trained to guard the house, I've heard her barking many times at something or someone that she thought was very suspicious, my neighbors kids, she'll bark at in an unfriendly way at them whenever their talking to us over the fence, cause obviously to her they look like they're going to climb over the fence and into our garden, and my brother's friend was doing something suspicious and she started barking, probably would have attacked him if he moved, she's a smart dog and knows the difference between an intruder and a friend visiting, she'd most likely bark first as a warning and alerting us, that something's wrong.

    A good guard dog is not only physically capable of taking down the bad guys but are smart and easily trainable. They must posses loyalty and protectiveness to their owner and they must be fearless. I give thumbs up to the rottweiler! With that being said there are lots of great guard dogs and they have to fit your life style and your needs!

    • @Sillyvicen
      @Sillyvicen 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      While I agree that all dogs should be trained #1 & #2 are hardwired to be guardians, just like terriers are hardwired to go after small furry varmints. With #1 & #2 you just want to work on obedience and super heavy socialization. They do not need to be trained to guard something that they have been raised to think of a theirs.

    I have a shar pei, wonderful guard dog, not as large as most of the dogs in the list (only around 30kgs) but bred for many hundreds of years as a guard dog so their natural instinct is guarding. They are always alert, when I'm out of the house my guy goes straight away to the upstairs bedroom to be on lookout (as the window touches the floor in that room and he can see out properly). They are also incredibly affectionate towards their owners. Very similar to the Chow Chow in look and mentality.

    Good list but I think the Doberman should be higher on that list. My fathers Dober has been protecting the house for about 8 years now and it's such a caring, playful and intelligent dog. It dosen't just bark at random strangers and kids that wants to say hi or anything, it knows when danger is lurking and is a very loyal and protective dog that will do anything to keep the house safe. Before he got his Dober he had 3 robberies, now there's been no robbery for 8 years straight. Would recommend the Dober for any family that looks for a dog that has it all.

      My Dad had a Doberman in the late 80s guarding his work premises, he left a small window open a burglar put his hand through trying to open the bigger window, the Doberman grabbed his hand and still had it when my Dad came back to work and rang the police, can't ask for much more than that.

  • @kevinn4038

  • @mikes3827
    @mikes3827 10 ปีที่แล้ว +105

    Not having a RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK on the list is laughable. Commonly known as the 'Navy Seals' of dog breeds, it is muscular, fast, great endurance (can run with a horse for 30 miles), is immune to insect bites, and is one of the most beautiful and intelligent dogs you will ever encounter.
    The RR is THE best all-around dog, and one that was bred to hunt AFRICAN LIONS is the dog I want guarding me.

    • @Seldenta
      @Seldenta 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I own a Chow x Black Mouth Cur x Rhodesian Ridgeback, talk about a guard dog xD Dunno why they have Chows so low on the list, I grew up with chows and they're one the best guard dogs.

    • @mikes3827
      @mikes3827 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Seldenta Yep, Chows are a formidable breed, for sure. But yours is a Chow MIXED WITH a RR?? Yikes! Just thought of another Chinese breed that should be on the list: Shar-pei. Then there's the Akita from Japan, another breed I wouldn't dare want to mess with.

    • @mikes3827
      @mikes3827 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Seldenta BTW, when I saw the Great Dane, I laughed. They're one of the biggest breeds, beautiful dogs, but most ppl know they're usually the epitome of their bark-is bigger-than-their-bite kind of dog, generally-speaking. Almost all the GDs I've known will run if you went up and said BOO at it lol.

    • @Seldenta
      @Seldenta 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike S I know right. I was like '...Great dane, sure' but then in Missouri there was a report that at a dog park a great dane mauled and killed some dudes golden retriever so just shows in every breed theres mean ones.

    • @Seldenta
      @Seldenta 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike S And my Chow x black mouth cur x rhodesian ridgeback is badass xD He hates everyone thats not already inside the house. Nipped the neighbor when the dude i live with forgot Liam was out in the main part of the house(They usually stay in my room with me) and told her to 'come on in' as in let herself in. Liam charged and nipped her, stopped when the guy said his name though. But, as far as Liam knew she wasn't invited and was breaking in.

      @dakotadoyle4188 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Huskies just simply do not have an intense protective or guard instinct. That would be like trying to train a golden retriever to be a protection attack dog. That's why labs in the military are only used for their nose, meanwhile German Shepherds and Malinois are used for their nose AND as attack dogs.

    • @dakotadoyle4188
      @dakotadoyle4188 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Presa Canario and Cane Corso, they are one of the best to protect and guard. They can fell, when you dislike some bad person or if u fell threatened. They can fell your engery, and then they fell the right to protect their leader/master. If the owner are calm and take the leader role. The dog should have no need for attack other animals nor humans.

    I got 2 doberman's and one of them is over 110 pounds... He bit one stranger that came to close to our gate and shattered his arm. However, they are very affectionate to young people and will give there life for their loved ones. The reason they are called pinchers are because they have the strongest pressure per square inch in there bite. I highly recomend this dog for a loving and protecting dog.

    very good video and good list. I might have missed it but you can't have a top 30 without including the Fila Brasilero, they are one of the elite. The 2 most impressive things to me in the videos were how much bite and fight the Belgian malinois have for being a very undersized (when compared to some of the others on this list)dog. Also how great the GSD still are, the way that Shepherd recalled its bite and stayed all from the commands of the little girl was pretty impressive.

    I can't believe the Australian Cattle Dog didn't even make this list!! They are the ONLY breed genetically bred to fight, & one of the most protective breeds known to man. They have been conditioned to protect & control herds of cattle, maintaining an unbreakable loyalty to their owner (whom they diligently listen to to carry out their job). My dog is a ACD and she is the most loving creature towards me & my family (anyone part of her "pack"), but she will tear anyone who threatens my safety to shreds.

      dobermans are over rated, my niece was attacked at the dog park by a doberman that was known to be aggressive but was saved when her 3yo cane corso came back and ripped out the dobermans throat, damn near took off its entire head on one bite. id never own another dog once i saw how her corso saw she was in trouble from a distance, ran back and most likely instantly broke the neck of the doberman then proceed to drag the dog away by its neck, then once it was far enough away it came back and cried on her making sure she was ok, all this happened before anybody else could ever of reached her. truly a beautiful yet gruesome sight to be seen as the Doberman was literally missing most of its neck. and if anybody was wondering the authorities didnt hurt her corso afterwards as there were many witnesses to the doberman attacking her and the corso did as it was trained to do which is protect her.

      German Shepherds are popular guard dogs, but that doesn’t mean they’re the best. I want a dog where guarding comes more naturally, not as a result of training. These dogs often display more cunning, skill, and intelligence in that specific task.

      That list has, obviously, the perspective of somebody from Greece, so they have much more breeds from south-west Asia and south-east Europe, and most of that breeds have been around for a longer time than more recent breeds, like Doberman, Boxer, Malinois, german shepherd and any american dog; for example there is a breed that for the west side of Europe would be basic, because is one that also, like many of those at this list, has been used for almost half a millennia: the Great Pyrenees.

    • @dwightstewart7181
      @dwightstewart7181 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oscar Tapia Yeah, the Great Pyrenees (one of my favorite breeds - in fact, have one now) is exactly the type of dog I was referring to. These dogs are natural, intelligent, guardians & protectors (not just blindly following training), displaying considerable insight and skill in that. For example, responding differently on their own to similar scenarios based on different circumstances. There are several other such breeds as well.

      I agree with you! People confuse being an aggressive dog with being a guard dog. A guard dog is territorial, and the Husky is not! A guard dog is actually very quite so it is more credible when it barks... and should mistrust strangers! Bull terriers are excellent defence dogs, but not guard dogs...

    • @ragdoll2309
      @ragdoll2309 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      shesaidyesnoyes They don't include the Shar Pei, who have natural instincts as a guard dog, they are incredibly territorial and literally always on guard (especially when the owner isn't at home). they're smaller than most of the breeds in the list but are far better guard dogs than most of them. I think they mixed up guard dog with attack dog.

      i think he started from the end of the list,meaning that the dogs he started with are the worst guard dogs.And fmy opinion is that Caucasian Sheperd and Tibetan Mastiff are the best guard dogs because they can come up with the best soultion on their own because they are very inteligent like most of the sheperd breeds,the rest of the dogs will just attack even when it's not neccesary.Sheperd breeds are the best guard dogs because they are all smart,after all people started using them as sheperds because they are smart and they don't need orders to do what is best.

Both dogs are highly intelligent, though the GSD has the advantage of being smarter, and faster, while the Rottweiler is bigger and more powerful. Both dogs are used by police and military for a good reason!!

    dobermans are widely considered the best guard dogs alive, not because of brawn, but brains. I also feel German shepherds should be much higher on the list again, because of intelligence.. The more intelligent the dog, the better the guard dog. There is a reason why they are the two most used breeds in law enforcement. The biggest complaint I have for most of these dogs on the list is they don't know when to stop. You want a dog that knows when its job has be accomplished. Creating a dog with full intent to kill is stupid. Particularly pit bull and pit bull variants. This is why pit-bulls carry the most fatalities worldwide every year. That and idiots get them as family dogs.
    Shar pei isn't even on the list either.
    Alot of these are not even created for guard purpose, but rather fighting dogs.
    Pit bulls are not guard dogs. They were not made to be guard dogs. Nor were Siberian huskies.... although I would take a Husky over most of these dogs any day, since they are so intelligent.
    Most of these are NOT guard dogs. They are attack dogs. There is a huge difference between the two.

      There are only a few dog breeds that can be properly trained to be a "safe" guard dog so you can leave them alone and be sure that dog wouldn't harm a child crossing the fence for the ball for example...or any other similar situation...

    BEST Dogs Overall with multiple uses which are also Strong, Loyal, Smart:
    3: Bullmastiff/Boerboel
    2: Cane Corso
    1: Rottweiler
    No Kangal, No Ovcharka, No Dogo because I would not trust such dogs with my kids. Especially Ovcharka.
