Man, does this game evoke the best of the small-scale RPGs on the 3DS! We really need more bite-sized games like this! Pre-ordered based on your review guys, sounds like a delight!
I had the exact same feelings after playing the demo, being surprised by how enjoyable it was and then looking at its release date and realising it will be send out to die. Everyone who's interested in it should pick up the physical release in the coming months, because in addition to it being a solid game this also has 'collector's item' written all over it.
@@user-fy9dv7lp9d You know I was going to say the same thing, but there's something about how this one will go. So under the radar with all the releases that have came around it that we will completely forget about this one and the sales are going to be so low.
@@user-fy9dv7lp9dThe Xseed published games that came with a large box is actually going to be very interesting to see how those mature. The fact that you're getting the art book and soundtrack for the cost of just the game regularly will likely appreciate really well. And I'm sure there's a market for it. Think about what happened to Crystar before it's reprint.
It's a decent "podcast game". With an almost nonexistent story, it's something you'd play while listening or watching something else, much like the survivor games but with a traditional character progression.
I swear, your reviews are the best! I love that you take time to explain in details how the gameplay and systems work and feel and take time to describe the story without spoiling anything. Great content!
This is my new comfort game, simple yet addictive combat, loot gathering, low pressure, made even better by the incredible price, XSEED marvelous never misses!! I CANNOT WAIT for the new tune factory games coming up soon, rune factory is my absolute favorite game series so it’s super comforting that they gave up something small while we wait EDIT: you can turn off the repeating voice acting lines in the menu if you need to :)

Been on a fence for this game for quite some time ever since it's been released. Play the demo in absolutely loved it. Simplistic beautiful dungeon Grindr. Picking this bad boy up on steam for 20 bucks today on sale. Thanks for the great review by the way.
I got this to play in between larger games, during a time that I also don’t get as much time to play anything because of work and family. It’s just a busy part of the year for me. So this little chill game is perfect for that downtime. I really love XSeed games and I wanted to support. For $50 preorder I got the day 1 set and I think that’s a great deal. It arrives today actually. It gives me Bravely Default and Fantasy Life vibes and that’s all I needed to see before smashing the preorder button lol. I’m excited. I also usually temper my expectations with most games, especially from smaller independent developers and studios so it takes a lot for me to be really disappointed. I have this, Sea of Stars and Master Detective Archives Rain Code on my next up list. I’m super excited for all of them but this one busted it’s way to the top of the list just because of how perfect the timing was in my life personally. Plus what is better than cozy games on a late fall night? With your husband and pets, some tea and a cozy blanket? Nothing in the world, that’s what.
I have it preordered for Switch and does anyone know who the composer(s) are? From the trailer announcement, it sounded like Masashi Hamauzu, but I don’t think he’s worked with Marvelous before.
Did not have this one on my radar. The japanese title is frederika for some reason. I’ll play the demo and see if it scratches the itch for me. Looks definitely fun though. One thing is very true, awesome year for games but waaaay too many!
Yeah, and this seems to be roughly 100ish years later? And all the characters apparently understand what the hell she's saying, despite spoken language being non-existent for 3 generations? I dunno, I can usually suspend my disbelief pretty easily, but this just doesn't make any amount of sense.
Gosh. I just don't know with this one. Finished the demo last night. I didn't dislike it per se, but I also didn't love it nearly enough to come anywhere near its asking price. I will say if you pick it up, don't sleep on the farmer, which the video discusses at roughly the 4:40 mark. Her standard attack pattern is a 3 hit combo with a slight back step after the final hit that seems to pretty reliably take her out of enemy attack range, just as they launch their first attack. Very handy, and low key pretty powerful.
Been enjoying the demon pretty much got all characters to level 10 and almost have the building to level 3. Just grinding the money so i can be rolling in it when the game comes out. Kind of wish for more skills to switch around but been fun. I just zone out when the crystal girl is talking in the main hub. But guess i would be chatty if i been in my own tear crystal for so many years than people showed up heehee.
Was there a way to lock on and switch targets? Targeting was like a auto target nearest enemy system. It works but can be a bit janky at times, could be a dealbreaker for some.
from the style of gameplay and your review this reminds me of Lapis Labyrinth cute little game that is best in small bursts rather than trying to play it all at once
been playing it non stop over the weekend, it isnt perfect, for me having to manage hundred of pickups/items/weapons etc manually is a little painful, but the gameplay is just so smooth omg addictive as hell.
I've been playing this quite a bit. I've found the game to get fairly cheap in its approach to challenge in the later/deeper sections. The overreliance on loss of control status effects is incredibly annoying, much like the princess's relentless voice lines. The inability to influence your loot drops also really limits your ability to direct progression. This game is clearly balanced around using a legendary tier weapon on your active character, but you're not guaranteed to get one for your properly leveled character. This pushes the player to either push forward with a single character using subpar gear, or grind out the same content across all characters so you'll have at least one that is properly geared for the boss in each section.
While the story sounds compelling and the gameplay might be great, I just cant get over the chibi, toddler like characters. It feels like an episode of rugrats gone action rpg. Traditional 2d sprites are at least stylized enough that it feels more like a representation of a real person, but these are realistic enough that they actually look like toddlers walking around, with their big heads and tiny bodies. It's a shame cause it looks like a good game beyond the character shapes/style. I feel like this type of 3d character was done in the 3ds era because of hardware or programming limits, but now it's being used with HD systems where it really shouldn't be. I guess there's an audience for it, but I'd prefer if they just stuck with HD 2d or realistically proportioned 3d.
I like it so far, but I don't like the kiddie like voice acting, and I think the graphics are pretty blah. I can block it out and still enjoy the game. I'm a sucker for hack n slash games with lots of characters, abilities, leveling up etc.
As soon as I hear "rogue-like," I pass, which is disappointing because this looks like an otherwise good game. If you're too lazy to actually design interesting dungeons, then I'm not really interested in playing.
