I remember when the original came out. I'd just came out of what eventually evolved into an abusive friendship, and I related to this song a lot. Three years later, I'm now happily in a healthy and loving relationship with a guy I'd been crushing on for a good 2 years prior to asking him out in February, and I can barely remember what it feels like to be the type of hurt you need to be to fully relate to this song. Things really do get better with time, including this song hoLY SHIT

I love the new mix but it sounds like her voice just isn’t apart of the song? It’s too separate and I wish there was some roughness to her voice like the original to make her apart of the music instead of just an overlay of voice.

I was thinking the same thing! I do like this version, it’s great. But the voice seems so separate from not just the instrumental, but the song itself. Like it doesn’t feel as emotional and stuff. I still really like how crusher took another spin at this song though! It’s one of my favorites by crusher, so I am happy.
Yeah, there's like no backing vocals and it sounds kind of empty. It's still cool to have an updated voice and have it more clear but it's missing a lot of emotion and filling with the layers.

Well personally I believe this song is just about any sort of abusive/toxic relationships, whether it be your family, ex, etc.
I prefer the old one, but I wonder if my opinion would be different if I had run into the revamped version before the original release? I feel that the old version had more "character", while this one sounds too "clean(?)"
HyriiEU I felt the same exact thing. I still prefer the older version as it definitely had more character over all. The singer felt heart broken and fighting. The newer version lacks this raw emotion. Despite being cleaner in tone it feels more robotic than the original.

Funny that you say this, I just encountered this song for the first time today, and I prefer the 2017 version. Not because it's cleaner or anything, in fact because having just one vocal line, makes her seem more desperate. She's alone, but strong and screaming out to stand up for herself. This newer version hits me harder.

For example, when it says "centuries" in the lyrics it puts "this years". It may be a confusion with the singer.

I used to listen to the SONiKA version all the time when I was 11 or 12. It's so crazy how songs change as you grow up. My freshman year of high school I was sexually assaulted by a 17 year old and it messed me up. I now relate that song to that experience and it helps as this song helped me regain my confidence, helped me realize I'm worth more. Now I've accepted myself in my full chaotic and cringy glory as a 17 year old now. Really music helps so much. I just hope that guy knows I'm amazing and cool now and he gets to see none of it.

Love this song. I'm going through a bad breakup with a senior (I'm a freshman) and she lied to me about her phone being broken and cheated on me. For the last 2 months she harassed me by screaming with her friends (to make me hear) "I cant wait to go to prom!" And been spreading lies about me. I personally prefer the older version over that one. Aiko's vocals were more crisp and added more atmosphere to the lyrics and the general intensity of the vocals is missing here as well. Also the bass is being too strong on the instrumental parts, it feels like it's clipping? I also don't understand why you removed the harmonies, what was wrong with them?

I never noticed the harmonies were missing. Now that you mention it though, there seems to be a bit of a trend where harmonies aren't added to things (like... some of jubyphonics recent covers don't have all the harmonies). Maybe they're removed to compensate for the added bass in this version? (Then again that could just be my headphones aa)
Completely agree. This version sounds very empty and uninteresting. The vocals aren't really mixed at all which is disappointing.

The piercing high notes are quite remarkable though for Aiko. Which in this version also just sounds dull and not like it's intended.
