Hey man, love the content on your Channel. I just had a quick look on your Patreon and couldn’t see which Tier gave access to the lifestream you’re talking about. Perhaps me only having a quick look is the issue ha ha
Re: Marooned 5.... You did fine. F.I.N.E. You were honest and, clearly, 100% spot on. Stating your honest reaction isn't _unnecessary_ these days but _required_ .
Probably a lot, I liked a handful of their songs, I always thought Justin was a great front man. However, I lost track of them years ago, but this channel is great.
I have a lot of respect for Justin because of his musical expertise and his amazing falsetto. I am not really a fan as in (followed the darkness religiously), but he is very talented.
@@JustinHawkinsRidesAgain Hi just wanted to say, I live in New Zealand, and we had major protest activity here involving covid vaxx and our freedoms, the parliament here - played the song " baby shark" and celine dion music to deter protesters. They would play this music on the full blast, over and over, but the protesters just laughed, built gardens on parliament grounds, built shower systems in bus stops. AMAZING - they could outlast the baby shark and other music.
If someone like Bon Jovi comments on your band during your first big break you have done something right. If it’s negative you have definitely done something right!
This is actually a pretty good point, those guys could all play and they wrote some good songs with hilarious lyrics that don't sound too out of place amongst the greats that they were sending up. I think the movie would have been a lot less effective without that.

by the way, you made this Darkness fanatic so happy when the band visited Mexico, I wass late for the show, I arrived in my bicicle from my father´s apatment, and I get a single ticket, it was a small venue and when I arrived and almost nobody had come yet, so I made it to the front. and I wass so happy to made it without my friends, (those idiots) narrowly I dare not go without them. halfway through the gig you got into the crowd on the shoulders of a huge guy from the staff, and caused a shock among many who couldn't believe having you so close and thanks to everyone reacting slowly I was able to get closer to you, although I didn't dare to touch the skin of a god but to touch the white wood of your guitar and that has been the happiest day of my life. hahahahaha it might not seem like much to some but for someone with a life as sad and boring as mine, remembering a moment of perfect happiness like that is a jewel that I will always carry hanging in my heart. THANK YOU FOR MAKING THOSE LITTLE EVENTS SO CHEAP. OTHERWISE I WOULD NEVER HAVE MADE IT.
🤔Just googled Bon Jovi's alleged comments about The Darkness, which were made in 2006... In my opinion, there's no doubting that The Darkness have written better albums than BJ in the past 20 years. To call The Darkness "fake" is quite simply the worst judgement of a band made in the past 20 years. ❤ this channel!! 💪😆🇬🇧
I can't even imagine why an artist as big as Bon Jovi would even make comments like that about a smaller /lesser (in a commercial sense) artist. Unless he'd actually been to a show, or seen some videos and genuinely thought Justin & Co were trying to be the new Spinal Tap and take the piss out of bands like BJ. 🤷♂
Tbh, even if The Darkness were a joke band, joke bands are also incredible sometimes. I can see maybe thinking it's a joke if you've only seen the video for "I Believe In A Thing Called Love", but it's so long ago that I don't think it's worth holding onto those comments.
Bon Jovi are an embarrassment of a 'rock band'. Their music is soulless shite. Also, I've heard that Jon Bon Jovi is an unsympathetic prick towards his substance abuse-addled bandmate Richie Sambora. And I'll never, ever forgive Bon Jovi for covering and butchering the song 'Fairytale Of New York'. Bloody sacrilege.
I saw your brother’s Rig Rundown Video from premier guitar a long while back, and he said the funniest thing… When asked about delay pedals he said something like: “oh, I don’t need delay, I just play the same thing again, only more quietly” Cracks me up just thinking about it. Whenever I use my little practice/small space/travel rig (that is sans delay) I use that joke. It never fails to kill. I haven’t covered y’all’s music yet, but I do steal your jokes! Love y’all! Keep it up!
Justin, as an acomplished singer, songwriter, guitarist who has proven success in the studio and live, I believe you are entitled to your view on other performers/artists. It is society that needs to exercise control over its social media output. I totally got your band the first listen and in my opinion, your act is original in its ability to play classic rock, extremely well. I pity those who do not 'get' great rock n roll because when its good, its fucking great. Australian fan.
Ive never heard someone say, "They can F*** off", in a more thoughtful, kind, and respectful way. Lol. You're the man. Seriously, I discovered your channel when i fell asleep to TH-cam one night. It came on and I woke up to a review you were doing. I'm not too familiar with The Darkness, but this is one of my favorite channels. This video was excellent.

From a fellow Hawkins here in the states, thank you for your content. I have always enjoyed your music but your nuggets of wisdom might be even better. Keep up the good work
So glad you started doing these videos; I knew you were a great guitarist and phenomenal singer, but was glad to learn you're also an articulate, thoughtful and KIND person. Really enjoy these!
I love Justin's constructive take on songs and music in general. So it was interesting to see his honest reaction to Moves Like Jagger. That makes this channel a perfect place for any music enthusiast.
Ok, I need to comment on your voice. It's definitely gotten much more beautiful to listen to than in the beginning. And this includes especially your speaking voice next to your singing voice. I think only your laugh is still the same, it always takes me back to the past you when I hear it. 🙂 But it has also always been an exceptional instrument of yours right from the start of your career.
I seen you on that tour with The Hollywood Vampires in Glasgow. Joe Perry is also one of the contributing factors to me playing guitar. Can't imagine what it must have been like to have met him. (Yous played great on that tour btw!)
Mr. Hawkins, your take on the music scene is essential viewing for anyone who despairs at the present direction it is currently heading. And as a Wise man once said: "Fcuk 'em if they can't take a joke"
So good to see that you keep your cool when confronted with somebody publicly telling their unfavourable opinion of you. I guess that’s something everybody has to work on at some point! Feel hugged via the internet 🙏🏻
the goofiest adam levine moment was at the halftime show for one of the superbowls, someone gave him a guitar and he was like CMON IMMA PLAY SOME GUITAR FOR YALL plays two notes, and the show was over
Jon Bon doesn’t get The Darkness who cares? The Darkness has been part of my life for 20 years loved you guys from the first time and you’re still my number 1. And I GET YOU!!
Dear Justin, your TH-cam channel gives me so much to learn about, thank you so much! You know I'm a fan of your theme song performances: in this one, you gave me a lesson on proximity effect. Keep up the good work, it's always uplifting, and thanks again!
I was crushed when I learned that the dazzling solos on Train Kept a-rolling were played by hired guns Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner, and not Joe Perry. Aerosmith went down a notch because of that revelation.
Not sure Jon Bon Jovi sees the irony in calling The Darkness a fake glam metal band a pejorative. Still sympathetic to his vocal decline. They did write some great tunes. Ageing is a bitch.
I don’t think it was unnecessary at all. Music is subjective. If you don’t like it then you have the right to say so. One of the many things I like about you is that based on your vast musical knowledge and talent, you always make an educated opinion. Keep it up
I don’t think that Jon Bon Jovi actually listened to much of your band’s music for him to comment like that. Honestly, your hit I Believe in a Thing Called Love popped on my head for some reason ( I didn’t much think of your band after that) and I played the video and saw y’all were touring. I thought it to be a fun show to go to and started listening to the albums and thought..damn these guys are f****ing awesome musicians…so yeah.
'I think that people are mean each other when they're in pain, aren't they?' YES! Yes they are. Absolutely adoring your videos, Justin; from both a musical and human perspective. Xx
Even some of my friends still thought The Darkness was a Steel Panther/Spinal Tap band a year ago. Then they discovered Justin Hawkins Rides Again channel, went back and explored the extensive Darkness discography, saw them in concert in 2022 and now are huge fans of the band. Bon Jovi would probably concede in 2022 that he was very wrong about The Darkness.
I've had "Is It Just Me?" stuck in my head all day. It's because the guitar solo is hot, that's the science. Also, you looked ravishing in your gown my darling.
Mr. Hawkins, some folks just don't have a sense of humor. I am new to your channel, but I always leave with a smile. Thanks for that. Mr. Bon Jovi may be big on talent, but he seems to have come up short on jocularity. Cheers.
Thank you for your honesty, your humour, your homonyms and all your other isms.. Loved that you were still musing on the Harry Styles song in the bath...where many an epiphany does strike.. Ive actually listened too the darkness in the bath..back when you guys first broke through...thanks for staying true
At 54 and never having been into ‘metal’ how surprised do you think I feel to have absolutely fallen in love with your videos. The way you describe the biz and what most people would call theory, is astonishing … you make it all so clear and in such an engaging way. Thanks so much fella, Keep On, Keeping On.
We covered “I believe in a thing called love” in a band I was in… We had some originals and covered Aerosmith, Jet, AC/DC, The Four Horsemen, Nirvana, Guns ‘n’ Roses… The song was really fun to learn and really fun to play. Really well written. ELO crossed with Thin Lizzy. I really loved playing the solos. Great channel.
Your TH-cam channel is one of the best things out there, Justin! Love your down ti earth nature and dispelling many of the myths that surround the music industry by being upfront and honest about how it all works. Keep up the great work and writing those banging toons man!
I was in a 70s rock band in the 90s in the Bay Area/San Francisco, California called, Stone Fox, with my Sister Jorjee as the front woman and I was one of the guitarists. So, I know how special it is to be in a band with a sibling, that you truly love too…even if you have any disagreements and such. Also, the other bandmates very much become like your siblings. I love your TH-cam Channel @JustinHawkinsRidesAgain 💜☮️ Peace!
I knew I loved your singing, but your speaking voice is equally awesome (I love the content too, of course, but I would come back to listen to you talk about cloud patterns if that's what was going haha). Keep up the good work. I hope I get to see The Darkness live again (been 2x), but it is a bit harder now with the little sprogs.
In your experience, how debauched is the inner sanctum of rock & roll? Ever been invited to any "Eyes Wide Shut" style soirées (he asked optimistically)?
I like Maroon 5 but found the critque very funny. I think the need to be serious is overrated, besides many a true word is said in jest. Keep up the good work. 🌟
Liking the new haircut. Suits you dude! loving the podcast your knowledge of music 🎵 is amazing never really liked the darkness but I have only heard what was on radio etc, but now I think I should listen to your albums with an open mind and listen to them because the way you play (superb)I think that I might be surprised and the opinion I had about the band may change? respect Justin keep up the great work! regards Ian & Suki the hawkdog peace out dude! maybe you could have a podcast about HAWKWIND? truly amazing band and Dave Brock will be 81this August and he is still rocking out and don't look his age ,be great to hear what you think about them and their music Justin .
In watching your channel this past year, you have reminded me (via example) to attempt to be more charitable in my analyses of people, while simultaneously engaging my humility gene (not that I have any reason to not be humble). An effing rock star training me to be more level… the irony.
The thing about pop music now is that it's not just on the radio and adverts, you go out and it's on in the shops, it's on at the petrol station, it's on in the bloody chemist! So, when you have a song that is ubiquitous and irritating, when you're out and about it's inescapable! It certainly drives me bonkers. I have to cover my ears when that Dance Monkey song comes on, lest I be driven to a homicidal frenzy while I'm queuing at the pharmacy.
Talking about earworms and mnemonics... there is a commercial jingle on the radio here all the time for O'Reilly's Auto parts, and it has gotten so stuck in our ears here at my homestead that my 13 year old daughter and I will bust out singing it every time we pass by one of their locations. It's demonic.
What was worse was I remember a mere few years ago when that company was changing their name from Checker to O’Reilly and they were using the same theme, but forcefully making the O’Reilly part MORE catchy. Soured me from ever getting a headlamp or wiper-blade from them again because I felt so manipulated by their damn jingle. -rant over…I feel better now- Oh and Justin, this is not to knock writing for commercials…just the painful ones. Love your channel.
Justin - what do you think of rock music’s shift away from commercial songwriting and more towards TH-cam content creation? You are one of the few who’s achieved greatness in both, but so many modern guitar ‘names’ like Rabea, Rhett Shull, Beato, and Mateus Asato…. They have managed to forge careers without really writing any popular songs. (I am not criticising these people, they are wonderful musicians and do probably write original music, I just would like to know what you think about the absence of songwriting in a genre where it was of paramount importance). It’s the tail wagging the dog nowadays it seems. Love the vid.
Only time punching down exists is when you consider people below you! Wouldn't worry about that Justin. Thanks for the content you fair, and honest legend.
Hewwo from Coventry! Talking of Hollywood Vampires, who would you want in your ultimate supergroup (aside from Dan, Frankie and Ru)? Keep up the good work, love this channel and your honesty and energy ⚡... Ciao!
The desire to write better songs is what drove me to want to better understand music theory. Modulations (especially in songs from The Beatles) are what really sparked my interest. What was is that made you want to learn more about music theory and at what stage in your life/career did that happen?
I was introduced to your existence via three dudes and their small British motoring show back in the day; they played a clip of your video from "This Town A'int Big Enough", as well. That is such an amazing rendition, and video.🤘
Hello Justin! Great channel. You inspiring me to pick up the guitar. 🙂 And another British guitarist I look up to, is Michael Algar. Love guitars. Keep it up! 👍
I met and hung out with Joe Perry about ten years ago, I was part of a popular cable tv show at the time and he liked it, so we do some filming and then attended the areosmith concert but what surprised me at first was how tiny and old and frail he seemed in person, I just remembered what he looked like from the early 90s music video days, and I also got to find out that joe perry is a bit crazy lol. Obviously legendary rock guitarist, amazing career making epic riffs, but man he would talk about some crazy meandering stuff. Like my friend got his number and Joe would be calling him up at like almost 2am in the morning talking about how nuclear radiation from government bomb testing has changed all the steel on a molecular level and stuff and he just started ignoring his calls. He was like growing up an Aerosmith fan I never thought I would have the issue of Joe Perry calling me up and telling me crazy stuff. Later when I heard about the slash having Joe Perry's 59 Les Paul and giving it back to him my mind remembered how he was and how giving him the guitar was probably the easiest solution to get Joe to leave him alone about it lol
I remember calling my dad up that day, which was super weird for me I never talk to my dad so I think that was the first and only time I've ever spoken to him over the phone, because he is like a 70s music rocker guy and told him that Joe Perry was over and asked if he wanted me to get him a Gibson guitar signed by him and my dad replied who is that? I said well he is the guitarist for Aerosmith, and my dad answered back "oh well a nobody then"...gotta admit that was pretty harsh of my dad but I won't ever forget that one. He did think it was cool when I hung out with Ted Nugent 🤦
Yo Justin, just wanted to drop a comment and say love the channel mate, keep doing what you do you're absolutely hilarious but a top fella also, always a pleasure... I also got the Permission to Land record you guys put our the week it dropped back when I was a lad and had just discovered a passion for rock in particular... Love is only a feeling is up there with some of the top epic hard rock compositions in my mind. And I challenge anybody write a hit in today's world that took the world by storm like Growing on Me and I believe in a thing called love.. Won't happen, The Darkness made an iconic mark in time for many of us and just wanna say thanks for the sounds from a longtime fan Dude 👍🏻
There’s no such thing as too many or “unnecessary digs” at Maroon 5. Clearly there have never been enough digs since they’ve been one of the biggest bands of the past two decades which has always blown my mind. That’s like in world war 2 someone saying, “hey, lay off the nazis, there are already so many people who are against their cause.”
While i agree maroon 5 is a dog shit band... But nazi's? Really? Maroon 5 is comparable and as bad as nazi's? I think that's a very over dramatic sentiment.
Good day. It is I, Anthony, and I really enjoy your new You Tube channel! Besides being hilarious, you are obviously very wise in the ways of music, and I respect your tact in what you have to say about the various topics you choose to take on. Sometimes you let a little snark bubble up, as with the Maroon 5 video, and with some of the negativity you receive from grumpy comments, but that's only natural, and it adds a humorous edge which I love. I only subscribe to channels that combine entertainment with education, and you are brilliant at this. Keep it up!
ive always addressed justin hawkins, from the popular rock band the darkness as justin hawkins, of the popular rock band the darkness in my commenting - that end question was pure fckin beautiful and from hencefourth shall be justin hawkins, of the popular rock band the fckin darkness!
Damn. I watched your Bon Jovi vid yesterday and thought "hmm.. this guys seems to know what he is doing. He is propably a professional". Just put this video on and had this "wait a minute"- moment about who you are. You're that guy from Airbourne!
Always fair and well-reasoned comments. A joy to hear! BTW - never understood moves like Jagger. Really disliked it and the band! Also, not my special pigeon, but songs become ear wormy as they activate the brain’s reward system (dopamine)… did a quick Google! Saw TD in Manchester in 2004… loved you ever since!
Do all British singers sound like Freddie Mercury? Just poking at you lmao! I love all of your videos, even the ones I don't like lol. You are a decent guy and give good insight. I'm glad you are around.
Hey Justin, long time fan of the darkness, growing on me was partially responsible for me learning to play guitar and sing so thanks for that. Just wondering if youd ever do a segment where you check out people's bands and give constructive critiques. Might be cool, cheers from canahda
Saw you all in Tempe AZ back in March (or was it February, life gets crazy). I noticed you still tune the instruments to standard 440 instead of Eb. And your vocal is still fantastic. At 52 years old myself I can't hit high notes like I did in my 20's. And yeah we have to just sing it differently.

As you probably know, Ezrin brought in Dick Wagner to play the solo on Sweet Pain on KISS Destroyer for Ace Frehley.
Dear mr Hawkins, stumbled onto your channel and always enjoyed your song and performances. Keep posting the videos
Nevermind what Bon Jovi says. I’ll take The Darkness over that stuff any day.
That ending of who you are was the best thing I saw this week! 🤘
Keep making your comments Justin. Your are respectful with them and not nasty.
Not sure Jon Bon Jovi sees the irony in calling The Darkness a fake glam metal band a pejorative. Still sympathetic to his vocal decline. They did write some great tunes. Ageing is a bitch.
I'm a cowboy. On a stee-eel horse I ride. And I'm from Jersey. New-ew-ew Jersey.
I don’t think it was unnecessary at all. Music is subjective. If you don’t like it then you have the right to say so. One of the many things I like about you is that based on your vast musical knowledge and talent, you always make an educated opinion. Keep it up
‘Open Fire’ smashes any Bon Jovi song!…..power to ya Justin. Love this channel 🇬🇧🎯⭐️🤍
I know Steel Panthers as being a computer game in the 1990s. Is the band a sabaton type band who do war stuff?
@@neilwilson5785 just go listen to them, eh?
Bon Jovi might feel butthurt after one of the previous videos, even though it was just showing the truth
Nowt wrong with Steel Panther
There's nothing wrong with not liking a particular artist's music.I loved REM and a few people hate them.No sweat.
This one goes out to the one I left..... BEHOOIIIIIIINNNND!
I've had "Is It Just Me?" stuck in my head all day. It's because the guitar solo is hot, that's the science. Also, you looked ravishing in your gown my darling.
Sooo catchy. A great song!
Love the channel Justin! Love your insight, and really love your humility and openness! Keep it up!
thank you for your insight and thank you for the hard work. much love
I love your TH-cam Channel @JustinHawkinsRidesAgain
💜☮️ Peace!
Im here for the random intro / outro… it’s become my ear worm . Is that such a bad thing? Makes me smile .
Thanks Natalia!
Priority 1 - Sing in the key where the guitars sound the best.
Priority 2 - Sing in a key that sustains a healthy singing voice for yers to come.
Been a fan for at least 18 years. Pretty pissed that i missed you in Calgary
As always, great stuff. Cup of tea after work on a Friday listening to this, pretty peaceful really 🙂
In your experience, how debauched is the inner sanctum of rock & roll? Ever been invited to any "Eyes Wide Shut" style soirées (he asked optimistically)?
Glad to have found your channel here Mr. Hawkins. Rock N Roll needs The Darkness!
😆 same thing happens to my son and I! O'Reilly's has quite the earworm
Oh Oh Oh....O'Reilly 🤣
You are right. It is! 😈
@@powbarabajagal2435 I was just thinking of that! It was “Checker….O’Reilly…auto parts.”
I had to terrible misfortune of being Front of House sound man at a function for a tribute act called Maroon 7 and they were actually 2 worse.
Bwahahaha
Only time punching down exists is when you consider people below you! Wouldn't worry about that Justin. Thanks for the content you fair, and honest legend.
The Maroon 5 video was not an unnecessary dig. It was sorely needed. Never apologize.
Best channel to binge watch love the band love the channel!
I am glad a couple of questions I had read around have actually been chosen and replied. It was interesting
Keep it up! 👍
The end made me chortle rather loudly.
WHAT A VOICE ! And what a house. Switzerland looks great.
I'll probably remember this comment forever 😆 Thanks!
We saw you in St. Louis and you are an amazing performer. Bon Jovi is for mouth breathers.
I loved the Maroon 5 video. It's a horribly cynical song in my opinion and I liked your honesty.
You still have IT! I think your voice sounds better now than in the past. Good on you!
That's ridiculous... the kind of logic like a Nazi would use.
While i agree maroon 5 is a dog shit band... But nazi's? Really? Maroon 5 is comparable and as bad as nazi's? I think that's a very over dramatic sentiment.
One of the biggest bands of the past two decades???!!! 🤣
@@4ND1Y3P35 they actually are though, whether we like it or not.
@@Malt454 Nazis here, Nazis there, Nazis fuckn everywhere. EEK, a Nazi
Joel O’Keeffe Rides Again
It's fine to share your honest opinion. Some things in the world suck and can therefore be called sucky.
"noone said I was relevent" LMFAO.
Aerosmith pretty much shaped my entire music tastes growing up, and... still do.
I would like to hear a full orchestral rendition of your intro tune.just a ten second hit.the shortest symphony...
