The 3.0 update releases on the 23rd! I'll update the description to include that link once it's live. Anyways, hope you all enjoy a return to Old World Blues!
For early on the phrase saying that Rhombus "bought the farm" during combat is an old phrase in the US used to say that someone had died in combat. It likely came out of the US military as a way to refer to a soldier as KIA without affecting morale by saying that they "bought the farm" rather than dying. Course you let the man actually retire so that's nice.
Bought the farm can also mean killed in action. It is a play on words. Did he buy the farm after the battle and retire or did he die during the battle.
@@PravusGaming yes, it's more commonly used with the meaning "he/she died". So in this context, it means Rhombus died in battle vs. the super mutant leader
Bought A farm = literally purchased a farm Bought THE farm = died I've heard the claim that the saying comes from soldiers dieing in battle and the government payout allows their family to pay off the mortgage on the family farm. Thus the soldier's death buys the farm, or what happened to Jimmie in the last battle? He bought the farm.
@@CowCommando trying to be kind and not point out the fact that Pravus (born, raised and living in the USA ) seems to have misssed this rather obvious and well known popular saying. I mean i never set foot in the US nor do i keep i touch with americans on a daily basis, but still, i'm familiar with the saying, as it is that well know in the US english language.
@@g1camuschy my intent was to simply explain the reference for anyone who was unfamiliar with it. I felt it would be unfair to say it's a figure of speech without also explaining that figure of speech.
@@velnard8540 if you have a few thousand dollars to spare for the uranium, and the capacity to enrich it, then probably, yes. Getting sufficiently large quantities of uranium would be problematic thought, it's supply is predecated on existing demand, so there's not much excess going around.
The Riot Gear tech is not new. It's used to create a new form of infantry that I use primarily as resistance suppression instead of militia. Add a dog support company to them and they are the best unit-for-unit suppression division in the game at the cost of some extra equipment production. The mini-nuke launcher is called a "Fatman".
When it says he bought the farm during the battle, I believe they mean that he paid the price in blood, and was killed in combat, thus; Mourning Survivors.
@@madcourier6217 the victory here shall be swift. Our forces shall take the Dam, secure it, then build a road west on the bodies of the NCR. The East will hold. Once across the Colorado, nothing to rival Hoover Dam remains.
1st... I would just like to thank my mother for popping me out. I would like to thank the ratio between matter and antimatter at the start of the universe allowing the galaxy to form.... etc. etc. :D
Old World Blues! Always a welcome sight, especially on this channel! This Texas Rangers-based group kind of reminds me of finishing Fallout 4 with the Minutemen faction and keeping the peace with this historic band of law-keepers. Really interesting concept; especially when used in conjunction with the Brotherhood's notorious power armour units.
“Reworks the Oklahoma region” Oklahoma wasn’t in the mod before lol, it’s due north of Texas. The update reworks _Arizona and New Mexico_ and _adds_ Oklahoma and Texas.
As I have paused the video at 16:43 I cant tell you yet if you figure it out later. But when it says He bought the Farm during the battle it means he was KIA a rather funny euphemism.
Just catching up on this old series and hope there will be more OWB coming down the road! Glad you are back and I am enjoying the other HOI mods you are trying out!
I will watch this but not till I play through this myself, as a Texan I am very excited to finally live out my fallout dream of big yee haw bois in power armor
my absolute favourite Old World Blues faction is still “The Enclave”, to be more specific, going for the reformed path as the Enclave. I belive that faction needs a bit of love and get added in the mod officialy.
@@kimjongun1348 it would be nice if it was added as a stand alone faction you can play from the start. Like in the sub-mod “ The Enclave Reborn”. That sub-mod is pretty amazing and it adds the single biggest national focus tree in any nation in HOI4, ever. With plenty of options to customize the Enclave depending on what you would like to play as.
16:55 "Bought the farm" is a military euphemism for dying in battle. So Rhombus either bought a farm to live out on in his retirement, or he "bought the farm" and died.
... does that mean, that the Texas Brotherhood has Chuck Norris on their side? ... Or better that Chuck Norris allows the Texas Brotherhood to live in is vicinity? The rest of the world is so screwed.
FYI, when someone has “bought the farm”, it’s a euphemism for them dying, because retirees often buy farms to retire/eventually die at... at least, that used to happen....
is it just me, or dose it seem strange that Texas, the state that prides itself on being big and once a nation, would become divided and fractured after an apocolipse? wouldn't Texas be one of the most likely places to maintain a form of state wide unity and become a nation once again after the apocolipse? I realize that the premise of Fallout is that America collapsed after the war, but I still think the Texan pride would probably survive well into the future.
im from texas, and that's an interesting viewpoint. while i believe that many Texans would probably be extremely prideful, even after a fallout-esque scenario, collapse would probably be inevitable, though maybe less fragmented then the rest of the fallout world
Agreed. We have a certain 'individualism' that might prevent the sacrifice/teamwork needed to remain intact. The pride though that might help us pull together quickly after the disintegration? That we have. :)
I remember from fanfiction.net that someone wrote up a world build for New Orleans. It had a lot of potential, and having a woman who fashions herself as Napoleon both philosophically and namesake-wise is too good to pass up. The author even expressed in a FAQ that they encourage others to run with their idea. Also on a side note, if the team behind Fallout: Miami collab with Old World Blues, it could accelerate the OWB project. Combined with the above, that’ll cover Louisiana, Alabama, Cuba, and Florida.
if you want more information, next update includes alberta and the northwest (end of civilisation update), next comes bunker blues, a rework for the west coast (Shi, WCBH, NCR). There's also the big circle that will rework the 3 cities of crime (new reno, new vegas and vault city) as well as add a focus tree to yakuza territories. Only then will there be the great plains in the midwest awakens update. of course it will include the midwest brotherhood, but the chicago enclave will be included. No the east coast will be the last update of the mod

Has bought the farm comes from a 1950s-era Air Force term meaning “to crash” or “to be killed in action,” and refers to the desire of many wartime pilots to stop flying, return home, buy a farm, and live peaceably ever after. When they died as a result of a collision or were shot down, their buddies would shake their heads and mutter, “Well, I guess he bought the farm.”.All that from quick google search.
Man, to think years from now hopefully the east coast and all of the US will be complete. Definitely contender for mod of the year. Even Canada at some point, maybe some Caribbean factions too that rely on naval supremacy and piracy. There'll be so much to play with that you'll probably need a whole scenario that removes Mexico just to run better.
The mini-nuke is a small nuke that looks like the ww2 bomb 'Fat Man' that was dropped on Hiroshima, the one that hit Nagasaki was called 'Little Boy', but that looked quite different.
