  • Happy New Year to everyone! Welcome to the White Collar Advice Channel.
I'm thrilled to introduce Alec Burlakoff to our team. Alec's journey through the criminal justice system is both inspiring and enlightening. In this video, we discuss Alec's experiences and the valuable lessons he learned during his government investigation, sentencing, and life after prison.
Alec's Unexpected Journey into the Criminal Justice System:
Alec found himself entangled in a government investigation due to his role as the head of sales at a publicly traded pharmaceutical company, Insys. Eventually, he went from being a subject to becoming a target and was ultimately indicted on RICO conspiracy charges.
Facing the Unthinkable: From Denial to Action:
When Alec was first approached about possibly being involved in a government investigation, he couldn't have imagined it in his wildest dreams. However, he quickly realized the gravity of the situation. He shares how taking immediate action, such as hiring an attorney and proactively seeking support, became essential in those early stages.
    Understanding Collateral Consequences:
Alec sheds light on the often-overlooked collateral consequences of a government investigation. He discusses how his relationships with friends and colleagues changed drastically and why it became crucial for him to build a new support network that understood his situation.
Mitigation and Advocacy: Alec's Proactive Approach:
Alec talks about his proactive approach to mitigation and advocacy while dealing with his case. He shares how he took an active role in his defense, even when it meant challenging his high-priced legal team to ensure his narrative was accurately represented to the court.
Sentencing and the Role of Character Reference Letters:
At his sentencing hearing, Alec faced the possibility of a lengthy prison term. He explains how he and his legal team strategically used character reference letters to present a comprehensive view of his character and experiences, ultimately leading to a more favorable outcome: he got sentenced to just 26 months in federal prison while the government was seeking more than five years.
    Life Inside Federal Prison:
Alec provides a glimpse into his daily life during his 26-month sentence in a minimum-security federal prison camp. He discusses the importance of staying productive, memorializing his experiences, and maintaining a sense of purpose while incarcerated.
Life After Prison: Transition and Realistic Expectations:
Transitioning from prison back to the outside world was a challenging experience for Alec. He shares how he adjusted to a different work environment and why setting realistic goals and expectations was crucial in rebuilding his life.
Alec's Advice for Those Facing a Government Investigation:
Alec's journey offers valuable insights for individuals navigating a government investigation. His key advice includes taking immediate action, understanding the perspective of the government, and actively working towards a positive outcome.
    Conclusion:
Alec Burlakoff's story is a testament to the power of resilience, proactivity, and determination in the face of adversity. His experiences provide invaluable guidance for anyone going through a government investigation, sentencing, or the challenging journey of reintegration into society after serving time in prison. We thank Alec for sharing his story and insights, and we look forward to his continued contributions to our team at White Collar Advice.

I'm usually a silent subscriber but I just wanted to comment about how much I love this channel. I subscribed to this channel a while back and always look forward to new videos. Although there hasn't yet been a time in my life where I've needed your services (thank goodness!), I have certainly made mistakes in my life and have hit rock bottom. I find this channel very helpful and inspiring because of all of the life lessons. This channel shows how you can make a mistake; the mistake does not define you and you can learn from that mistake. Whether you've been fired from a job, destroyed a relationship, etc., there is hope and things can get better if you learn from your mistake, take responsibility, and work to improve yourself. Thanks for creating such an inspiring channel!

Another great video! I really enjoy watching them. One thing I would ask is that you spend some time talking about restitution to the victims. Is it usually financial payback over a period of time or how do the victims get paid back in some way? Have you had anyone reach out to your group who was indicted for PPP fraud? That is something which is a real sore spot for me. Many of my friends with small businesses had to fold and to hear of people convicted of PPP fraud - who in some cases didn't even need the money - really angers me

Great topic to cover. I will cover restitution again soon. We have had at least 50 PPP cases. High priority for the government. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Your work and videos are a Godsend. I am going to be sentenced on March 14, over three years after pleading guilty. One of the most valuable take aways for me has been learning the importance of self-advocacy. You have enabled me to truly take charge of my plan for the best possible outcome. My attorney advises me that my narrative is one of the best he has ever read. I will continue to prepare my package for the Judge and to give my attorney all possible amunition to help him prepare the strongest and most compelling memorandum possible. I have even gotten him to agree to a second meeting with my parole officer since I was completely unprepared for the first one. Thanks again and keep up the good work. And a big thanks to Mr. Burlakoff for this very helpful interview.

It seems as if all your videos are nothing more than promoting your company. Just one long ad…

Are you always this insightful? You have the nuanced thinking of a labrador retriever. This guy went through a tough time of his own making and remade his life; a life that brings meaning, encouragement and a mindset that says, "Your story is never over. It's never too late to be what you could have been" White Collar Crime has brought meaning to many, and you begrudge that his redemption involved building a business. You're really a 3 dimensional chess thinker dude.

@@raindogs451 worship criminals if you wish. The guy on this video was responsible for possibly thousands of deaths from pushing opiods for profit. That guy should NEVER get out, let alone brag about cutting his sentence shorter. The guy that helped him is just as guilty and now has the blood of those deaths on his hands too. Fuck being polite- they both knew they were committing crimes when they did it and now want forgiveness and profit. Screw them and you too. Tell your bleeding heart mindset to all the families that are still doing the time from the loss of their loved ones

@@raindogs451since Mr White Collar Advice seems to have deleted my response, I will say it again- The man who he helped get out of prison early is possibly responsible for many many untold deaths buy pushing massive amounts of opioids for greed and profit. Your bleeding heart attitude probably doesn’t sit well with all the families that are still doing time with the loss of their loved ones. They sure didn’t get a reduction on THEIR sentence. Getting him out earlier is NOTHING to be proud of, especially since he most likely turned a profit doing it
