    This is one of my favorite performances of this artist. For some reason it's not as popular as "Nunchucks" for example, but in my opinion it's one of the most emotional and heartfelt songs. I remember the first time I listened to it, it made an indelible impression on me, I felt pain, devastation and loneliness.

    I don't know if you have watched the prestage interview before or not...? He explains a bit why he performs the song this way. Basically it is about the struggles he had as a child from wanted to beloved but rejecting it at the same time. His parents divorced when he was very little and he grew up by his father who was often away for work. He felt very lonely and scared especially at night time. This song is a cover. He said it was very painful for him to rearrange this song because he had to recall his bad memories from the past. It is great to see an reaction to Hua Hua in english from somebody who speak chinese. Thank you.

      no, no idea of the artist or the song or any other information. so my interpretation is purely based on what I'm hearing. but what you said makes sense. the song has a feeling of loneliness, pain and hopeless throughout the entire piece.

      You can also find most of his Interviews and performances with eng subs on the channel Hua Chenyu Eng Subs. They also did the chinese translation for this video. So their translations are really good. Which is important because most of his songs especially his own compositions have really deep lyrics.

    Hello! Glad you discovered HuaHua, he's my Nr1 favorite artist, never fails to convey his emotions. This song is originally from Cui Jian, HuaHua rearranged it his own very unique way. The lyrics strike close to his home, his parents divorced when he was very young and he was raised by his father, a very busy businessman always away traveling, HuaHua spent his days and nights longing for his return, refusing the love of sitters and family, this drove him close to breakdown. There's a pre-performance interview where he explains why he arranged this song this way and the message is, if you see lonely children like he was, give them love no matter what.
    HuaHua is one of the top Chinese artists, he's a very unique composer, an awesome singer, a very emotional performer. He's a rocker, rapper, can sing reggae, beautiful ballads and even operatic pieces. HuaHua has a very fair range, the range he needs to fit his music compositions, he sees his voice as an instrument and uses it to accompany the other instruments in his music. That's all what I like with him, he's very very different from Dimash, I think what they share in common is their charisma, but all HuaHua's music comes from within, whether he composes his own or rearranges a song and it's mesmerizing.
    I hope you will react more to him, I love all his songs but if you want to react to another artpiece, please check 7 Personalities, the video at New Year's Gala, Thank you! (Shared on FB group Hua Chenyu Foreign Martians)

    Glad to see you reacting to Hua Chenyu. He is a very special and unique artist. He separates himself from the pack just by being himself.
    Noteworthy is that he composes and arranges his songs himself. So much talent and always a specific viewpoint. Much of it focuses inward. I’m really enjoying the journey discovering him. I hope you will do more as they are all quite different from each other. He’s broken many records in China for stadium shows, etc.
    You’re reaction was so insightful. I really appreciated your comments. Thank you for breaking it down and so look forward to you checking out more of our alien Hua Chenyu.

    it is not just a song . It is musical art at its best. To me ,just like Dimash's performances there is drama, it tells the story and you don't necessarily have to understand the lyrics, the music by itself said it all. Thanks, another great video, and btw ...love your channel...very refreshing.

    Thank you for giving such an interesting comment and interpretation of this amazing performance. Just as I thought you would. Even if Dimash is my top favourite singer I adore Hua Hua who is such a versatile artist and composer and singer as well. He is the only rapper I listen to.. Most of Hua Huas songs are very complicated and profound, but to give his fans, the Martians, a possibility to singalong he has written some easier songs as well. I think Hua Hua is a master of creativness and, maybe not explicit in this performance but, he knows exactly how he wants it to sound AND look visually on stage. Please continue exploring his world!

    Thank you for breaking down the lyrics of this song. His lyrics are slways deep, steeped in Chinese philopsophies and mythology. For westerners like me not so eady to fully understand. The song reflects his own struggle with loneliness. It is not his composition, but he did the rearrangement. He is crazy good at that. Huahua participated in 2018 and 2020. The last time he won the competition.

I knew the general idea, but you said things I didn't know and helped me appreciate the song even more. Hua Chenyu's ability - and willingness - to convey darker, more complex emotions and be honest about his own darkness sets him apart from other singers. I enjoy your reaction/analysis so much. You have the most cerebral/artistic perspective I've ever seen among reaction videos. I'm a huge fan of Dimash who I believe is a rare prodigy and phenomenon. I also love the work of Hua Chenyu. He and Dimash know each other well from their work on Chinese television and they have a high respect for each other. For me Dimash and Hua are like orange & apple. They are similar in that they both "inhabit" the song and they both consider themselves to be "artists" first and foremost. They both are soft-spoken, respectful, and humble. Hua is possibly the greatest "performance artist" in the world. He paints a picture with music/words/sounds/acting & arranging.

    Thank you for your reaction to Hua Hua! I especially like your insight as far as the lyrics. Regarding the comparison to Dimash, I feel that is like comparing your art to Basquiat...there is no comparison. You both have your own unique styles. Dimash is known for his voice which he has been working on since he was 5 and he still practices 3 hours a day. Hua Hua left his voice training in school because he felt he couldn't express himself the way he wanted to by using the methods he was being taught. Dimash expressed that to write music, one should study composition first. It's about structure for him. Hua Hua writes from his heart about what he observes in his life and the world around him. Dimash had a goal from the time he was a young child, to be on the stage. Hua Hua only wanted to play music and had to be convinced to share his music. Dimash grew up in a large family filled with love and an entire family surrounding him to help him achieve his dream. Hua Hua grew up alone, socially isolated, bullied, and with very little support. I followed Dimash to Hua Hua and, while I can fully appreciate Dimash's talents and I understand his followers, I have been drawn in to Hua Hua's music, personality, thoughts... There really is no comparison between the two other than they are both, along with a few other artists, bringing people together and spreading lots of love.

      I thought that Hua uses what he learned and trained at school for art. That is, it is its base, but the most important thing is creativity and emotions! If I'm not mistaken, Hua also keeps practicing his vocals and the rest of his music. Exercise by exercise, but Hua strives for something other than Dimash in music.

    • @CC-sr2ec
      @CC-sr2ec 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@HelenkaJ No, HuaHua has talked about it in interviews and its backed up by his vocal coach. He actually threatened to leave college if they continued to push him in practicing the traditional singing techniques. He would lose his love and joy in singing, he said and stop doing music. Of course he knows the «correct» method, he just ignores it. As he is composing, he is experimenting with vocal techniques to find the optimal sound to convey the very exact emotion. He says that if he cant, he will just drop the song and move on. HuaHua is composing because its a calling, not a choice. Dimash studied bel canto /Traditional western classical opera singing techniques + pop and jazz. HuaHua probably had some training in traditional chinese opera. Theres a very real risk that Hua will ruin his voice prematurely because of this. But he knows, and says if that happens he can take up fishing. 🤣 He wrote I dont care for a reason

    • @HelenkaJ
      @HelenkaJ 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Thanks so much for reacting to this amazing artist! I love that you understand Mandarin and are able to provide us with your interpretation of the lyrics. Besides just the lyrics of Fake Monk itself, there is a backstory of why Hua chose the song and why he performed it the way he did. With Hua Chenyu, the songs he chooses or his own compositions are often very deep and poetic. It is always filtered through his own life experiences, thoughts, and emotions. He sees his voice as an instrument to convey the message and emotions of the song. So he may use unconventional tones and vocals to express what he wants. He is a master of the stage, his performance mesmerizing. So very versatile, covers many different genres, sometimes within the same song (e.g. Nunchucks) Please continue to react to Hua Chenyu. In the beginning of his career he was called a Martian/Alien because he was (too) different. His fans are called Martians/ET'S. Please react to more of his songs. Thank you a lot for the meaningful analysis! Hua Chenyu may not have the breathtaking vocal range and technique of Dimash, but he is a great performer and manages to get the song - both music and meaning straight to your heart. Hua Chenyu is also a great composer - he composes almost all of the songs he sings. Some are exceptions, like Fake Monk which he only rearranged, but he usually rearranges them beyond recognition. You may check some of his own compositions, like Equal To Heaven: th-cam.com/video/K1vOWnWzABY/w-d-xo.html
    I'm from Eastern Europe, and Hua Chenyu is one of my all time favorite musicians. My family and friends also like his music a lot, although he sings in Chinese, which is not a popular language here. Hua's works to me are the best proof that music is the best universal language.

      @HelenkaJ 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I`m from Poland. I don`t understand Chinese and english (a little bit).
      I don't need a text understanding to love Hua's art. I don't need to understand his culture to love his art. What I was just paying attention to, if there weren't any excessively offensive and vulgar texts. I only understand the text in general, but I know that he doesn't use such phrases in general, but rather uses the better language!

      @ Patrick Orobor , Hua Chenyu, (everyone calls him Hua Hua) is an incredible artist and he has so many amazing songs. He is also an incredible rapper & his although I don’t believe he fits perfectly into any particular genre, he does do quite a bit of Rock/Rap, You should definitely go check him out! Hua is one of China’s most popular musicians! I started listening to him in 2018 and although I don’t speak Mandarin I absolutely love his music and would really love to see him live but being as all of his concerts sell out within seconds, I know I would never be able to get tickets! A sad soul exposed, glorious long ethereal notes that take the very breath out of him, and also us. An astonishing performance by a unique artist.
    Thank you for the clarity of your analysis, especially in the middle of the night! Please continue your Hua Chenyu journey. It is very helpful to hear a person who speaks Chinese to react to Hua Hua’s videos d explain the translation into English from Mandarin I know can be difficult. I am going to get you some links to other songs. No, he does not sing like Dimash but did have Bel Canto training and wanted to sing popular music. Aside from this and there are other songs that showcase his vocal abilities, he can Rock out like the best icons I grew up with. These sings he did on The Singer 2018 I believe he said was the journey of the man, the person descent from a Child (one of the best songs) to a Tribute to Lesley Cheung who had taken his life because of his companion preference.
    There is so much to tell, Hua’s story of winning Super Boy at 23 in 2013 to how he sings in the present he sings Rock and he can sing very ethereal like an amazing song ARRIVAL.
    He sang in The Singer 2020 and he won. Rightfully deserved and he raps, like the best of them. His own way, so, please, please react to more, you will not be disappointed. He sang Fake Monk in Super Boy and it was with electric guitars and was not like this which fits the lyrics and meaning very well. The lighting was dim for a reason, like Bowie, his clothes are usually representative of the meaning of the song. Every song has a back story. As a person who wants to learn Mandarin, his pronunciation appears to be excellent.
    Along with The Singer, he did a Show called THE NEXT…..he was given a song he had 24 hours to rearrange the song. They were all amazing and too a song that was not very good, rearranged it, called it, MY SKATEBOARD SHOES, it has a lot of rap, it went to #1 on the Charts in China the next day.
    Hua & Dimash are both unique, have a strong work ethic and we are lucky to be around with them in this world.

    Yessss! I was hoping you'd react to Hua Chenyu. Many compare him to Dimash, I don't agree. I'm a huge Dimash fan, however HuaHua is actually better than Dimash as far as conveying intense emotion. It almost hurts to say this being as bit a D fan as I am, but I think it's actually possible that HuaHua is more versatile. I don't think he's as technically capable in some ways, but almost better in others. Basically I've stopped comparing them, because there is no comparison. This particular song is a work of art to me, it was shocking the first time I saw it and it left me a little stunned. Another intense one is Dad I'm Home, also Child is beautiful. I can't WAIT till you start reacting to other songs by him. Thank you for this! I was hoping you'd translate the lyrics again. The Chinese is so much more poetic when you translate it. I hope you had a good day despite the early start.

    His story is very interesting, since his participation in a contest called "Super Boy", where you can see a very shy boy, he almost seems a bit Asperger ... This video is from a contest called "Singer", I saw him doing things amazing turning songs into another show called "The Next" Now he's on a very entertaining show called Ace vs Ace. In 2014 he gave two concerts in Beijing, where tickets were sold out in less than two minutes each for 10,000 people. Its growth has been incredible! He is unique! Marvelous ! His talent is impressive, he composes, rearranges, his voice is soft and powerful. I am from Costa Rica and since I discovered him I cannot stop following him. I admire him too much, for being so young he is so focused, intelligent. I think he cannot be compared to Dimash, each one has his own style. Obviously Dimash's vocal ability so far is unmatched, but Hua Hua, as he is called, is also unique in his style ... his compositions of him are very deep. I love that he is always smiling. he transmits a lot of joy.

    Maybe he wants to be noticed so that others will see what he is going through and to care. He wants love and kindness and he wants help but doesn't believe that there is an answer for him within himself. He holds a tiny desperate hope that someone will save him... but he may disappear, he may die by his own hand or will die from hopelessness. This is about mental illness, maybe bipolar, depression. He is so lost and in so much pain that he only wants beauty and love to come his way, but has no energy or inclination to give any of this back. Thank you for your in depth thoughts and understanding.

    What a first introduction to Hua Hua! I recommend "Nunchucks" first, "Ordinary Path" second, then "Child" if you want a Dimash feel, then "Dad I'm Home" from Singer 2018 (he took 2nd place to Jesse J - and won Singer 2020) for the deep side of Hua Hua. Secondly, there's no way to compare Hua Hua and Dimash. They are both masters within themselves on totally different planes. I prefer Hua Hua over Dimash, only I can take so much of the classical side of Dimash. Hua Hua is young, fresh, exuberant, and a masterful composer and singer. Hua Hua is a rap master. As a person of color, I'll admit that I like Hua Hua's rap over Black American Rap which I find vulgar. Hua Hua makes relevant social statements/awareness via his music, songs, singing. For non "Singer..." songs, I recommend "Nanping Evening Bells" and "Perhaps Love".
