However, in the world of research which is less permissive, highly stringent, and utterly competitive, we are still left with no choice but to adhere to the international standards esp for studies geared for international publication.

Hi! Single l is a variant. Better use the one with double l or you may check in your school the previous theses as to which was used. May verify also with your adviser or language critic if using single l is ok with them.
