    I remember reading about him in the newspapers back then, and the articles were anything but flattering. His case … reinforced the worst clichés about bodybuilding, and, in Austria, he did a lot to give the sport a bad name. He was a sick man, who fell victim to a mental condition that, as a consequence, destroyed his body and cost him his life. He was not “evil” or something, in fact, he seemed to have been kind and friendly, but - and this is the real tragedy - all that remained is an example how _not_ to do it. Rest in peace, Andreas Münzer!

    Im 53 and have always loved training and and have always looked up to the classic heros of bodybuilding in the 70's 80's and thought Shawn Ray was perfect in the 90's. But the realities of the 90's 2000's and beyond, have shown us all that giving it your all and taking what ever it takes only leads to momentary glory and a shorterning of life. These men at 30 look 45 and 50. I see it in my gym every day. Swollen bodys and aged faces. The reality on a hospital bed comes too late, and loved ones that are left behind have to deal with their loss and sadness at your condition at the end. I still train 5 times a week. And look forward to watching my family grow.

    I don't know if a date can be nailed down when bodybuilding went off the rails, but it was once a healthy thing. Actually started as a health rejuvenating thing 100 or so years ago. McFadden and others advising people to exercise, including light weight training to improve their health. Into the 1940s and 1950s, the magazines had many articles regarding healthy eating, which is not always the same as eating for contests. Bodybuilders used to take pride in being athletic- handbalancing, running, jumping, etc. were part of the idea, and most BB were strong and fit. Personally, I think the problem began with the concept of being both HUGE and RIPPED, at any price.

    One of my bodybuilding friends from back in the day is on a heart transplant waiting list, he's only 47 years old. He used steroids and he looked great, but, now he really regrets the choices he made in his 20's. I never took them, I'm very happy I didn't because they were always readily available.

    In my humble opinion Andreas Münzer represented the sinister side of bodybuilding. I remember an interview shortly before his death in german TV where he is asked if his muscle growth has anything to do with steroids and he answered smiling that "steroids are not allowed" and therefore he only takes supplements like protein and things like that. His greed for sucess killed him and let him do very stupid things.

      old man These roiders are nothing but scum liars, they use Steroids, HGH, Insulin, IGF-1, Clenbuterol, Diuretics, Pure Testosterone Injections and pills, Myostatin blockers, Estrogen Blockers, Synthol, Implants. Meanwhile they lie and claim natural and how it was there bullshit useless retarded supplements that got them that big. The bullshit supplements don't even work and cause health problems. They give false hope to people and scam them out of their money. The supplements aren't tested by the Food and Drug Administration so you don't know what you're getting, it is all one big scam. It takes years for the FDA to track them down, when they do the company gets closed down and they pay a fine of thousands of dollars. Meanwhile they made millions and then they open up new businesses under a new name with new brands and the FDA has to spend years tracking them down and the cycle repeats. People need to wake up and stop supporting these lying scammers

    This may be a stupid suggestion but I think there should be a bodybuilding competition were you're required to be at least 8% but not more than 13% body fat (a bit arbitrary but you get the idea). The super shredded guys look unnatural and the preparation for the competitions greatly increases their chances of mortality as their high body weight, blood pressure, steroid effects and the diuretics, dehydration etc. come together in one rapidly aging, sometimes fatal combination. While their opinions are not professional, some bodybuilders who went on dialysis later have claimed that it was the contest preparation that did their kidneys in more than the steroids and food.

    • @miesvaillanykyisyytta3252
      @miesvaillanykyisyytta3252 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Height classes are also good and were used in the World Games before bodybuilding was booted out. People look different at different heights and there's nothing wrong with that. Generalized competitions that don't account for height leave some guys struggling to put on fatal amounts of effort and mass and makes it difficult for the judges to determine who really looks the best. It's difficult enough and subjective enough when there's guys of different frames and heights there.
