Note: You do not need to practice this much!!! Most of my life I’ve only practiced for about an hour every day. Focused practicing is everything! Notice for most of the video I switch up the content about every 20 minutes to stay engaged. Stay focused for 1 hour and you will accomplish far more than 4 hours of aimless practicing. Today, try practicing 3 topics for 20 minutes each and see how it goes!

@@saxchillz2328 One hour isnt a lot at all, but like he said-focused practicing. Practicing diligently for an hour a day for years will definitely yield results. I think he means just practicing, material for an hour but actually playing the instrument longer

Man! This was such a great video. I watched every minute, and I ended up learning a ton. My favorite part was around hour 7 you couldn’t speak a normal sentence anymore. And the view in your practice space is incredible! Also I might need to cop that camera :0

Charlie Parker was able to practice so long on end because he was also high half the time so I’m sure some of the time in the shed he was spacin out and then he would insane burst of practice. Underneath the demon, there was something genius. I don’t endorse drug use with professional life, but sometimes some grass and a nice long shed can do a lot of wonders for playing. Like being super stoned and just playing melodic cells everywhere and exploring is a lot of fun, it makes you feel like Bud or Monk lol. Long live Bird.

I did this once a year growing up starting at about age 14. It was on electric bass, but I would practice from 7 pm to 7 am with the aid of only NoDoz pills. I would say overall it led me to some good stuff technique wise, and teaches you to develop a technique that makes you relaxed and energy efficient.

It's not about the hours you put in, it's how smart you practice. Doesn't mean anything practicing for 4 hours straight and playing the same stuff or playing what you already know. Break the topics you want to practice in intervals of 15 or 20 minutes and keep going, make it consistent.
The other thing is that It's better to practice 15 minutes every day than 4 hours one day of the week. You won't progress as much without consistency.

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว

True story. Consistency is a key.

Kenny G, as in Kenny Gorelick, practices a mere two hours, with consistency, and he IS the BEST instrumentalist EVER.
Let's ask: Pat Matheny, Papa Lou Donaldson, Bebop master Charles McPherson, Mike Stern, and, yes, . Nathan Graybeal, among many other Organic Jazz wizards.
They all do agree; or, do they? 👍
Clive Davis, a man with excellent promotional acumen, doesn't disagree 😂😢😮
Davis, of ARISTA RECORDS, is "the wind behind [Kenny G's] wings" of fame and financial success 🙌

I am a clarinet player, and I guess that for clarinet you need a bit more firmly embouchure, but still man, it is insane not to blast after 4 or 5 hours. I think my record was around 6 hours back in students days, but I also remember that tomorrow I was able to play much less. Congrats to both of you! :)
