Hi Joy. I wouldn't recommend it. Most fruit trees are grafted, which gives you a shorter, longer lasting tree with deep roots.
I'll be doing a video on grafting soon.

What was placed in the bottom of the sealed container apart from the water?

Hi Julie, I placed 3 small straps of wood to raise the wire mesh above the level of the water. This is to prevent the pots sitting in water.
