As a Queenslander who is about to move to Perth, I've been really hooked on the Perth music scene and I'm very hyped to go out to watch more live shows when I'm over there 🙌

As a South African I am very jealous of the Aussie music scene in general - but interesting analysis of the factors influencing the prolific western scene - thanks for sharing

I just moved back to Perth after living in Sydney for three years, one variable that I've noticed is the impact of the cost of living post-covid.
Perth isn't cheap, but Sydney is so unlivable nobody interesting can afford to come out at night anymore, it's almost entirely the equivalent of the Claremont demographic, it's never a reason on its own to go to a gig but the potential to meet new and interesting people is a whole domain of the experience that I enjoy.

Triple J garbage, none of them are actually doing anything exciting musically.

I might be misinterpreting what you mean, but pretty much all of the artists I speak about in this video built large local followings without triple j. Jjj jumped on afterwards. So I wouldn't call this music triple j garbage, as triple j essentially just follows the trends now and doesn't set many of their own. They just piggy backed on these bands after their streaming games took off. I'd be interested to hear some of your recommendations of local artists making a buzz who you think are exciting musically? Always want to find more up and comers.

@@solitudeausmusic most of the artists making a buzz locally are copy paste indie bands. Check out Paint, Spacerhead, Ghoulies and Pleasants.

I agree, just super generic boring washed out indie rock. There are some good songs here and there but mostly all of these bands sound the same

Almost everything promoted by Triple J is also heavily produced by them to be the 'next big thing' and increase the profits coming in. It's the same thing that happens with the American Top 40 shit. Producers find attractive people who can pass as being talented, write catchy music for them and promote it heavily until they're famous and reeling in the cash. Look at the Kid Laroi, promoted until it's massive. It's kind of like forcing a meme, but they're succeeding. That's why all the music is so fucking generic, because it's all coming from the same place. I am unsure why most people have made this connection yet.
