If the ends of rafter feet are knotty and yours having trouble knocking the polytopped pins in without bending or breaking the plastic caps then sometimes we drill small pilot holes. Nothing worse than trying to yank one of those buggers back out without damaging anything. Even with an offcut behind the hammer it's risky.

I just eye ball it!! good job most times haven't got time to mark things up. Also if you want to remove a poly top from the nail just use your claw and turn it sideways put the top in the claw and bend it just pops off.
Great tip have been doing similar for years it take 5 minutes to make a jig and saves hours ,do the same for kitchen cabinet doors and drawers for drilling handle fixings
Not always plus if the customer wants custom handles budget kitchens come ready to go but some more up market versions have to be nurtured and titivated if your lucky so does the customer Oi Oi !

And don't hit your nails fully home before removing the protection. This prevents a small bit getting trapped under the head of the Polytop.
Wise words as ever from Dan 👌🏼🧱👍🏼
Thanks chaps. 🙏

That’s a really good trick
Another clever and short tip from Dan Cox, would like to see more of this tradesman on Skillbuilder 👍👍👍👍
Thanks Kevin, much appreciated. 🙏
More to come!
I also make jigs for stuff that need multiple fixings at set distance, much easier than measuring every time
A simple but effective idea good Tip Thanks
Brilliant tip. You’ve got to love a simple jig!
Another great tip👍👍👍
Oh man! I could of done with this amazing little tip on Thursday, I had pencil marks everywhere! Great tip Daniel!
😂👍🏻
Great little hack 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Old school 👍
Brilliant idea.. cheers
The simplest ideas are always the best ideas. Why didn't I think of doing that?
Spot on danny
It's as simple as that 🙂👍🏻
Unfortunately I’m clearly too stupid to have any idea what’s going on here
So you didn’t understand “Ge’ i’ star’ed tap tap tap” ?
A lot of fascia has the guide lines already on the protective plastic. Another way is use the nail as the guide by standing it up.
Love this!
Legend…..
James makes Skill Builder channel worth watching but this guy seems good as well. Shame about that other bloke
what you mean Roger?

👍 Another tip. Pilot your poly heads in the winter.
Good tip!
Which season do we then tap the nails in?

I like it👍
Nice idea, as a left hander I'd probably have the v notches on the other side of the template
We should make a left handed one
Ha! What a great idea.
Nice jig
Well who'd a thunk that?
Graham Cox 🤭🎯😉
Looks like you’d need 3 hands 😂
Nooo… check out the other 2 min tip, you can easy put up fascia on your own with a simple bracket made from scrap ply or timber. 🤙
Ah you don't need that jig...until you stand back and look at the connect the dot you've made 😋
I get a small square and pencil mark it at the correct points then slide that along the fascia, marking at intervals. Happy days Rog.
I nail the fascia before I put it up
What is a poly top?
A nail with a plastic head so it matches the fascia
Hello Dan, any roofing videos coming up ?
Hi Mark, yes.. should be coming soon. 😬
@@Ultimate-roofing-square. 👍
So… it’s a template, being used as a template. That’s ‘genius’.
Leave the nails all a mm proud until you've taken the plastic protection off. Then finish them off.
Or you just draw on the marker, can’t see you need the slots 😂
Slots are better than lines. You have somewhere to push the pin in.
No idea what this was about.
😮 Huh ! What you don't need a ridiculously expensive milwaukee tool for that? 😉🤣😂🤣 Now that there's a gap in the market 🤔
gaff tape
👍
Terrible explanation. U made a video just to draw a picture. Smh!
What have you done today that is of value to your fellow man?
