Would like to say I appreciate these videos, my kid is very much into trains and this has helped immensely in understanding the basics of restoration and repair. Now if it wasn't for the fact everything looks so much smaller than in the videos it would be absolutely perfect 🤣🤣

Hey SMT - I have a suggestion for your PowerTorque brush / spring reassembly challenge. I took an old credit card and cut a one inch narrow slit in it. The slit should be just wide enough to pass the motor shaft through it. After you balance the springs and brushes in the retaining holes, place the credit card over the brushes with the slit in the middle of the assembly. Squeeze the card down to compress the springs and place the brush assembly down on the commutator side. Line up the motor shaft with the bearing and gently pull out the credit card and screw it back together - assuming you haven't misplaced the screws lol.

Good idea, but I suggest finding something thinner like a used feeler gauge or shim.

SMT, after you use the fiberglass pencil you need to get compressed air to blow off the fiberglass particles off the commutator. When I use the fiberglass pencil I get itchy around my wrist from the fiberglass particles and it drives me crazy 😜

I got sick and tried cashing parts all over the place. I am into N Scale. So I went and bought a large cookie sheet with a deep edge around it. I now only loose maybe 5% instead like 60%. Just a helpful suggestion also I bought the green mat with the grid system to help.

I had a pair of C630s like this. They were painted for Chessie System though. I don’t know if Tyco ever had them in the prototypical Norfolk and Western blue with yellow lettering as delivered or the latter black with the block NW in white. I could be wrong but I think the N&W was the only railroad that had the high nose C630. I don’t know if the Southern ever had any. I know Southern had a few U33Cs.

I have a similar Tyco loco.
It is the Silver Steak model.
The electric motor and the bottom of the running gear is the exact same type as yours.
Although is has a busted coupler all the way to the trucks, and the truck skirts are somewhat good/bad condition
I have two of them .
One runs good and the other needs some work
One patina'd pretty bad and the other one looks new plus one Silver Streak caboose.
I did notice when you were going through your shelf you have the caboose at 1:04 mark
And it looks like at the 1:05 mark you have the loco too on the shelf where you found the Spirit of '76 caboose.
Now that I see the inner workings of this motor and the same as mine I may be able to tackle it and get the good one running better.
Plus I have had some luck finding other loco's for a minimum of $5 and got them running again (just needed lubrication)

6:50 Denver South Park & Pacific was a Colorado narrow guage railroad. It featured the fabled and historic Alpine Tunnel. At over 2 miles above sea level it was the first and highest tunnel to cross the continental divide. The entrances have been closed up since 1960 and the timber lined interior is quite dangerous. DSP & P used 10 ton 4-4-0 American type wood burning diamond 💎 stackers.

I personally use Marvel air tool oil. Costs less than $5 for a decent bottle. My experience says due to the heat and pressure you just need a decent oil and not a premium - the same way there is no real difference between a $10 HMDI cable and a $80 one.

If you are having to eyeball two screws to see if they are the same size, line them up facing opposite ways and see if the threads mesh. If they fit in right snug then they are the same thread count, and it becomes easier to feel if the diameter is the same.

All those Tyco engines suffers from overheating. Too small motor for a giant HO loco. I used to own an SD24 (Comin' around the Mountain~!). It pulled EVERYTHING, but that's how those motors goes to waste lol

I recreated the shell for 3d printing of this UB. scaled it up to a 1:22 G scale along with the HO scale. Added an insert ledge lip to hold the Tsunami DCC receiver. I had the crap scared out of me when I was a kid when a GP38 of Seaboard Coastline black locomotive snuck around a blind curve. Loved them ever since. Must have done something wright because I was at Disney on July 4th 1976 a year later On our 4th July camping trip the following weekend I saw this very locomotive
