Hey guys, landscape photographer here. I’m very sensitive to haze as that reduces contrast and flattens images. I have a different situation than you guys, depending on foreground objects I may be at f/5.6 or f/8, and if really necessary the occasional dreaded f/11. Then, I want the most 3-d look I can get at 5.6 or f/8. That is not easy. My older Mamiya Kit was wonderful at this and in many ways I still prefer it emotionally over my A7rIV. So when I watched this video as you say the images are really super close. I had a hard time finding differences beyond the obvious bokeh you mentioned. Zeiss is known for microcontrast which is hard to evaluate scientifically. Is it emotion and remnants from the 70’s/80’s and the Hasselblad/Contax MF era or is it real? And besides Zeiss isn’t manufacturing this lense.
So I see this haze issue above in one of your images. Look at 7:04 and 5:25. On the G Master I see what I would call haze on the sun side of her face, and slightly on the other side. Again, I’m very sensitive to haze. However, is she just a smidge closer to the sun? Could the contrast slider make it go away? (I don’t think so but am not sure.). Color saturation on Batis because of less haze is much better - look at the bright spots on her makeup. Look at her right eye (closer to sun) and Sony has no detail whereas Batis has maybe 50% of the detail available. Maybe instead of haze this would be flare given the presence of the sun?
Very curious what you guys think! Also, for fun, try them both at f/5.6 - even if still a portrait (I suggest framing the subject slightly smaller in overall image than normal, but only a little) and see if you see a difference in 3D feel. Process minimally and do equal-and-light or no contrast or sharpening at all. See if the Zeiss is more contrasty and slightly more saturated colors. Those are the characteristics the Hassy/Contax MF lenses had in the mid 80’s compared to other lenses. All of this mattered more when we were doing film and no processing. Even when scanning negatives and using photoshop it still made a difference. Today a slider can do a lot of this, but not the microcontrast part from what I understand. iPhones are now doing digital bokeh. If you are always at 1.4 it won’t matter to you but would be interesting to many. As well as your farther away wedding shots that may include cakes, buildings, large groups, etc.

Years ago I used 85mm and 90mm Lenses for 35mm analog SLR Cameras, later 110mm and 120mm for analog Hasselblad 6x6 Cameras, but now I use digital Sony A7RIV Cameras with Sony Zeiss Sonnar 55mm 1.8 ZA, Leica Macro Elmarit R 60mm 2.8, Voigtländer Macro APO-Lanthar 65mm 2.0 Aspherical, Voigtländer Macro APO-Lanthar 110mm 2.5 and Sony 135mm 1.8 GM. For Children or people moving I use most the 55mm and the 135mm with autofocus and eye-detection, but for adult persons that sit or stand at the same spot, I prefer the 60mm, 65mm and the 110mm. These Lenses that I use are excellent for any kind of photography, so I can highly recommend these.

Tim Downey Only towards the end I think. We have been using a lot of flash and we’re worried we were over using it that month. So we tried to go a lot longer in natural light. I think we just used it mostly in the evening if I remember correctly. Sidenote, we use our flash a lot more now even earlier in the shoot. We just use it sparingly so it doesn’t look too flashy

Mr Mac the gm is better in almost every way accept weight, focus speed and occasional back lit situations. The images just just feel better.
We use godox flashes and triggers
We have 3 600w and a few 200w. (All battery types) We also have the plate to connect the 200w together to make a 400w
I use the 60w constant light from godox for video Keylight
      They are a great value.
