"He is half alive". Well put him in well oxygenated water. See if they recover. I had heron and mink issues here in Canada, I built a wood frame with 1" x 2" wood crisscrossing the pond which holds up the net. Give the fish something like a pipe that they can swim into to hide. The heron will be back, it knows there are fish there. I built a new pond, 4ft deep, and a wall that was 2,5ft above ground. Mink got into my new pond, caught a fish, then went into panic when it could not climb out because of the wall. The wall is too high for the heron to effectively catch from, nothing to walk on in the pond so it could not catch fish. Learn from mistakes. Good luck, don't give up.
I had a Heron visting my small garden goldfish pond last October - I had a similar net covering mine, lost 5 fish, I suspect it was able to bring the fish through the net to eat. I decided to cover the pond early with my winter solid perspex sheets. Despite this, the bird returned for 6 weeks after, obviously checking to see if the buffett was still open. This year I have gone for Stainless stell mesh, looks terrible, but hoping it keeps the bird out, so far so good. Feel for you.
What litre size is your set up, it looks a little small for Koi . The problem you'll have now is once the Heron knows they are there it'll keep coming back. Maybe one solution would be to raise the netting above the pond by a foot or two using supports
I've moved them into the garage until the pond is finished but the problem is will any servive this heron was visious. And refused to leave them alone. The net stopped it taking any fish. It was a temporary pond for a few days.
@@yorkshirekoi2246 The net is there to stop the heron actually getting to the fish, Simply draped over the water, as you've seen, does not stop the bird spearing the fish. If the net is to be any use it MUST be well above the water surface and pulled tight. You need some way of achieving this including some horizontal support to stop the net sagging in the center. Commenting very late in the day but would be surprised if any fish survived. Hopefully better defenses in the future.
Last year a Heron destroyed my fish stock so now I’ve got a net and I’ve raised it using bamboo canes weaved through the net to prevent it from stepping on the net and doing what it’s doing to your fish. The Heron came back a few days later for a second go but couldn’t get to the remaining koi because of what I did, it came back this year, so they do remember where they’ve been able to feed before, it did take a look but thought better of it and flew off hungry. Hope the idea for the netting helps though. Best of luck mate, if you need some koi let me know 👍🏻
My heart breaks for your loss and that damn heron!! It’s so heartbreaking when a heron visits our ponds. Beautiful birds when seen in a lake but I absolutely hate them when they are at our ponds. So gutted for you!! 😢🥲😢
None lived i was given some bad advise on which salt which did not help. I tried to save them but it was a loosing battle. Check all my live videos for updates.
So sorry dude but that net exaggerated the problem the heron can't understand why they won't come out so damaged every fish if no net it would have had its breakfast and left you have to live and learn net should be raised well of the pond and tight
That heron found it far too easy in the shallow water and pots gave a better area to stand they will stand in 2ft of water without any problems. I can imagine how you felt watching the footage 😡
So sorry to see this mate. We've had a heron visiting one of our 2 koi ponds. One is empty of fish currently but the heron still checked it out but the other one has sturgeon, koi, rudd, tench, orfe etc we're not sure if or what it bloody had as the UV has been off and the water is green but it's slowly clearing now. If they're attacking your animals you should be able to retaliate! They're everywhere b**tard things. Poor fish 😢
i know I did a new update video my fish have been hurt really badly i dont know what to do with the butterfly koi they ant even swimming. I checked my small pond cant see any I hope they had the sense to hide in the fish cave.

Hi Paul,
I would salt it up.o.6 to help with the stress levels mate.
Steve
Yep as mentioned salt asap will de stress them a lot, and maybe some acriflavin won’t hurt to ward off infection.

i wish you luck it is really upsetting. I hope 3 of the fish do recover but only time will tell. 2 looks like they wont live
So decided to get camera out before helping the fish 🙄
He's not sat there recording. That's obviously a security camera overlooking the pond.

i hope your new measures work.
Pond needs to be at lease 3 feet deep, 2 feet on all sides and 6" service to water surface. Sorry for your lost bro.

thanks mate they are not doing well at all
Aww that’s so sad. The fish would have been stressed out. I feel your pain I lost a full pond to a heron 😡
full pond no way. I checked my other pond 2 goldfish have gone but at least that pond had a fish cave.
try and get a deeper pond with hideing spaces from the heron attacks your pond looks like a dinner plate to the herons its much to shallow
it is temporary pond my main pond is 1 meter deep.
Back in early 80 our pond fish vanished over 3 days. We had them 10 years. My only concern having a outside pond was cats and birds.
Perhaps a hard mesh over the top. I bought some plastic mesh for car radiators not expensive.
Or sheet of perspex mounted inch above.
Also fishing line so bird gets tangled might frighten it off. Or IR operated water jet or sounder.
That's not a pond it's a kiddies paddling pool. Basically sitting there waiting to be attacked by any predators.
Do you know what time of day it was ?
The cctv shows a time of 9am to 12 this bird spend 2 hours trying to get the fish fing thing.
Did any survive?😮

The problem is it will come back
hope the fish are doing ok 🤞being honest that net wasn't doing anything other than keeping the fish in
sorry to hear of/see this devastation. maybe if you have a dog it will keep the heron away. need more security
need to get a dog
