  • 2 and a half years of owning my Tiger 800 now, here is another long term ownership review.
    Bought from Destination Triumph back in August 2019 with 30k miles on the clock.
    22k miles later, it's still an excellent bike for me!
    After the close call in this video, I have purchased a Denali Soundbomb, yet to try it out but will do a video on that once it's installed. Also in this video, there is a small Tiger crash compilation for your amusement.

    Great to see you’ve found your ideal bike.
    Think many of us can relate to those on-road close calls and accidents you’ve had.
    I’m getting my Triumph Speed Triple this weekend so will be good to find out what your servicing costs are, and the dreaded valve clearances one!
    Were your extra front lights on at 8:29 when the car pulled out? It’s crazy how car drivers just don’t see motorbikes sometimes.
    Anyway great review, looking forward to the yearly updates and seeing that mileage clock up. Won’t be long before you pass the GPZ500 mileage!

    • @Phil480
      @Phil480  ปีที่แล้ว

      The fog lights were not on at that point. I believe it was this close call that prompted me to get the Denali Soundbomb compact.
      The dealer servicing is extortionate. I forget what Billy's charge for the full service inc valves. Certainly a lot cheaper than Triumph anyway.

  • @trevorphillips3055
    @trevorphillips3055 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Phil, the spanner service indicator works by mileage count down. You enter the mileage at which the alert is to come on when resetting, eg after 6000 miles. My guess is this was set to a low value on the last reset. I have dealer tool software which is essential for home servicing as it allows this reset plus idle speed adjustment, throttle body balancing etc. These are all electronic adjustments. It also allows you to bleed the abs circuit correctly, well worth the 60 quid investment if you want to home service as I do with my 2014 street triple r.

      @@fatles2008 Hi Les, yes the software is available to buy on the dealertool website a quick search should find it.
      I tried to put a link here but my reply was blocked it seems. You'll need to check what will work with your bike as it's a newer model. 👍

    Hi Phil, another great video and handy to see all the improvements you’ve made. Having just bought a 2012 800 ABS, i have a couple of questions. After riding it on motorways at higher speeds is it just mine that feels like it needs a 7th gear ! Doing 70-75 the RPM is 5-5,500 ! Does yours hit high RPM in 6th gear or is it a feeling issue on mine ? And the 2nd question relates to the screen, I think you have upgraded to a touring screen in another video, what make is it please, is it easy to fit and did it make a difference ? Many thanks Phil, and keep up good work with the videos 👍🏻

    • @Phil480
      @Phil480  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've had it 4 years now so I must be due another one of these videos. 5k RPM in 6th at 70mph is about what mine does, I don't think that's anything to worry about.
      Earlier this year, I fitted the Triumph adjustable touring screen, really easy to fit. For me, it works very well on the taller setting, it bounces the wind right over me. On the lower setting it does direct it more onto my chin so there's more noise and buffeting compared to the stock screen.
      With yours being a 2012, if you can, check with Triumph to make sure that it has had the recall on the gear selector shaft done. On the pre 2015 models they had a weak spring inside which breaks and stops you being able to change gear. Chances are, it has most likely been done already but best to check.

    Nice ride and review. If you’re open for a suggestion, i’d mount the extra fog lights lower on the roll bars. That way the beam will be mostly under the fog and won’t blind as much.

    • @Phil480
      @Phil480  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, Frederic! That's a good idea, my main reason for not mounting them on the crash bars was because they would be more likely to get damaged in the event of a crash or drop. Also the wiring wasn't long enough haha.

    Something I saw a lot on the internet is the oil consumption. Every 1000 mile or so, some oil had to be added, because it is "normal"/"common" that this engine would consume some oil ( maybe more in older models up to 2017/2018?). Did you have this problem? Thank you for the great video!

    • @Phil480
      @Phil480  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Funny you say that, I have not noticed a considerable loss of oil up until last week where I noticed the level had dropped considerably below the sight glass. I've done about 3k miles since the last oil change. Now this may have something to do with a drop I had last year where the bike did tip over quite away, so I may have lost a load there. I am doing a service tomorrow, including air filter so will see what is up.

    • @Phil480

      @@Phil480 Very clever! I have started to fabricate some based on the same design and that might work. By the way have I seen you have now fitted an OEM switch? Advice on the wiring would be very helpful. Thanks for your help.

    • @Phil480
      @Phil480  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@garyrobbins3600 For the switch I wanted to get the original Triumph fog light switch and wiring loom but I couldn't find the correct one for my bike.
      This switch is just wired in line between the fog lights and battery. I am planning to wire it in properly to the headlights or something so they can't be turned on or left on accidentally after the ignition is off.
