It’s usually in reference to how exaggerated the camera can make certain shots look whether it’d be a super wide lens that gives everything a fish eye kind of effect or you could have something that makes everything look as if everything is super close to the camera ( creating a tight parallax effect in a sense ) but yea focal length is a tool to bring out certain desired effects in media!

The feeling it gives focal length (tight parallax effect ) It is very appropriate in psychological and action scenes, and it suits even the nature of Japanese animation, which has limited animation ,the closer the camera is to the character or the effect, the easier it is to move it. I see that the one who applies it the most is Masaki Yuasa, how he creates an expressive perspective,Using a character or object in the frame as a reference is really great!
