Valentine Cargo Flight on Turkish Cargo A330F

- I travelled on a Turkish Cargo A330-200 cargo flight from Istanbul to London Stansted and back. Inside the cargo plane were 64,000 kgs of fresh flowers for a Valentine’s Day delivery. The flowers came from Kenya via Istanbul to the UK. The flight provided some great insights on how to transport perishable cargo and how cargo operations work in general. On the flight deck, captain Ferihan took charge of a low visibility take-off as the weather was extremely foggy. We had some turbulence during the climb out of bad weather. I had a tour inside the Turkish A330F, including the crew rest area and the galley. It is very different when compared to passenger plane. Breakfast was served during the flight.
When we arrived in Stansted Airport. It was a race against time to offload the fresh flowers. Those flowers will go straight to the market from the warehouse on the same day. All 64,000 kgs of cargo were offloaded in less than an hour, we then had another full load of cargo to load onto the flight.
A snowstorm was approaching with gusty wind conditions. The ground operation team has to quickly upload the cargo before the storm arrives. One cargo pallet was built slightly too high and couldn’t enter the plane due to the contour of the A330’s fuselage. So, the operation has to fix the problem on the spot to avoid a delay. The video is full of cargo operations and shows the importance of the air cargo industry to deliver the world’s supplies during the pandemic. We flew back to Istanbul Ataturk airport with a beautiful approach over the city of Istanbul at night.
To me, the air cargo industry has always been the underdog in aviation. Clearly, this pandemic has highlighted the importance of cargo logistics to keep the world moving. The air cargo industry is always responding to rapidly changing situations or crises. I call it “Crisis Management”. It is all about problem-solving to meet end needs and deliver on-time.

Interesting perspective on the Cargo operations of a Turkish Cargo flight.
As a consumer in modern times we easily forget how much actually goes on behind the scenes. I’m so glad Sam you’ve helped raise awareness for all your viewers of how much we take for granted. Great video and I love the cockpit video work. Very interesting to see the captain doing a manual landing in rough weather on a nearly fully loaded plane, and all of the side stick and control movements needed to pull off a great safe landing. Turkish Airlines has a talented captain there, and I’m happy to see her keeping her skills sharp by manually flying. More “modern” captains should take note and get off the automation comfort zone.

When the Captain disengaged the autopilot and took the control to land the plane it was really awesome.
Yeah, very impressive how much she needed to move the stick. It must have been very bumpy.
Men o men my autopilot could turn quickly on if she disengaged.. I mean captain.. Or - es to be corrected bfr u start to shoot..would be a pleasure to fly with her on autopilot... Hehehe

My dad flew cargo planes for 6 years after 25 years of passenger flights. He had more technical challenges in those 6 years as the planes are pushed a lot closer to there limits in terms of weight. Fantastic video, thank you !

Yup that's true but even more challenging
is something different but you will have other duty such as cargo loading, calculations and paperworks.
May I ask you what was your department at university ?
Boxes don't answer back or give you grief. Problem is a 3.5 tonne pallet will hit you a lot harder than a passenger if you don't pay attention to it.

My Rotary District in Southern California hosted an exchange with a district in Turkey whereas business professionals exchanged visits between the districts. Among the exchange were Turkish women and this is when I experienced how stunningly beautiful and intelligent Turkish women are. This plane having a Turkish woman pilot is no surprise to me.

Actually Turkish Airlines Cargo is still using old (and beatiful) İstanbul Atatürk Airport very mostly
They'll switch over all cargo operations when the cargo facilities at the new airport are ready
