So rarely did I ever, for the lack of a better word, feel anything from animation since Cowboy Bebop. Finding such gems that give me that same weight in my chest at the end is getting harder and harder.
Shiki no uta will always be a special song for me. I was away from my now wife, at the time when I was watching samurai champloo and it never failed to remind me of her. We were not together back then, yet, and it tore my heart to listen to this masterpiece after every episode of samurai champloo. I couldn't skip the song either for it invoked the yearning I had for her in me.
I still remember when Toonami came back for April fool’s and that started the twitter campaign of constantly trending Toonami till it officially got brought back by adult swim and now seeing this video makes me see what we were all fighting for. The next generation being blessed by Anime just as we were during the early 2000s. If any of you ever have the chance to pass it along to the next generation after this one please do. It’s moments like these I feel we all enjoy anime and it’s impact on our lives.
This isn't my favorite anime, but one of my favorite pieces of cinema in general. Samurai Champloo is so damn underrated in this day in age. Great video! I just finished this series yesterday for the first time. You encapsulated the meaning of the show and brought to light why I loved it. Thank you
Right on. The ending song has got to be one of my favourite anime songs, which is saying a whole lot considering how great the music of Champloo and Watanabe's shows in general are. I don't know what it is with Japanese composers concocting some of the most triumphant, invigorating, emotional or satisfying melodies in media, but it probably has to do with how exaggerated these shows are so the emotions you feel become exaggerated as well.
Champloo and Afro Samurai were so damn good when they hit i still havent got that feeling from anime since then, maybe one punch s1 reached that level of fire but not many since.
I was 9 years old when i happened to chance upon one of the episodes way back, the music in the series was nothing i have ever heard of and i fell madly in love with it. I am a huge anime nerd now but i really wish the current generation of anime would make something like this again.
The impact with telling the mom her son is dead is harsh, because he’s the only one taking care of her and she’s blind and had a sickness if I’m not mistaken. Unless Fuu was to go back and care for her she would inevitably die to. Because the openings were Nujabes a.k.a. Seba Jun beats with Shing02 rapping. MINMIs music always brought a nostalgia about it.
Surprised by the sub count. The editing is top tier. I gues Google noticed I was trying to rewatch Jin-Roh and recommended your channel. Hopefully the algorithm and google's spy tech continues to bless you
My brother in soul!!! Finally someone talks about the beauty of this show. Can't live without the ending song anymore. And it got one of the funniest beginnings of storytelling ever!^^
The appeal of this show is that it wanders and meanders. Life wanders and meanders. There isn’t a concrete plan or guided path, and every weird little misadventure these three embark upon is just a reminder that things don’t usually go according to plan in the real world. We play the hand we’re dealt, and we must choose to sail and drift with the winds that find us, or try to fight the current. Sometimes we win. Sometimes we lose. Sometimes our plans go exactly how we wanted, but we often miss an opportunity in the process. Sometimes our plans are destroyed, but if we’re lucky, something even better takes their place. Sometimes we’re left wondering what the point of it all is. Sometimes we see the point was there all along. Some people stay, some people go. Some people become friends, some friends become distant memories. Some live, some die. The world is an uncertain place, and this is outlined right in the first episode when Fuu has Mugen flip a coin to decide if they’ll all travel together. Is it chance? Is it fate? Who cares? It happened one way or another. That’s life.
Samurai Champloo truly is the GOAT among GOATs. Funnily enough, when I witnessed the ending for the first time, I didn't quite like it at first, but when I did a rewatch as I got older, it honestly spoke to me so much better when I experienced more out of life that I actually teared up. It is very tough to say goodbye to your loved ones, but the time you spent together was certainly precious. Samurai Champloo nailed that messaging perfectly.
I normally don’t comment on vids, but, this vid of yours, struck a cord. One of my favorite anime’s, and how you described it to a perfect T. Thanks for the content. 🫡
A few of things you need to understand about this anime is 1. Champloo mean "to mix" and is a reference to dissonant elements included- it's supposed to be a bit odd. 2.All 3 characters have their motivation very well explained as the episode roll on i.e. my personal favourite is ep14 where we come to understand Mugen and that lovely Okinawan song (lament of a fishing girl of who nothing to look forward to except maybe a visit from a secret lover). 3. The finale on the island, and the whole business with the Samurai who smells of sunflowers, is set during a real historical event of the Christian purges.
Best anime series ever. And that first Mugen vs Jin duel is the most amazing katana fight I've ever seen. It lasts less than a minute, but the animation, the direction and camera movements, the choreography and swordsmanship knowhow, the jazzy beats, it is all so perfect. You can feel the sharpness of their blades cutting through the air, you can feel the tension and how they both quickly learn from each other's completely different fighting styles. In the first few seconds you can see Jin almost tripped over and seems almost irritated when Mugen started "breakdancing" and then took a few seconds more to study him before swinging at him again. Jin is all about patience, efficiency and precision, Mugen is all about instinct, eagerness and chaos. But despite being perfect opposites, they have something in common: They both LOVE fighting
And the final two episodes! The show was ended perfectly. Left everyone wanting more. Jin was always my favorite but the older I get the more I understand the importance of Fu. Such a good show
I grew up on this anime man! I don't even know how you popped up on my feed.. but im glad you did.. the breakdown you gave about this anime was awesome.. this anime was awesome! thank you

I get a great pleasure hearing what different people have to say about samurai champloo. The show is so unique yet genuine that its impact depends also on the viewer personality and identity. I could watch these analysis over and over just to have a hint on what other people felt when they encountered this masterpiece
Oh man, well spoken. I thought I would be the only one who experiences that feeling of losing/change while watching this show. Like moving away from my childhood home. No other show brings me back this feeling that strong. Somehow it's not just a sad feeling. I think it makes you realize how good it was before the loss/change... Is this what you call melancholy?
Truly well done. I was in tears listening to shiki no uta today. The saxophone cover. Brought back 20 years of friends. Anime. Lost loves. I gotta say. You DID THAT! This and cowboy bebop are the greatest anime shows. Ever. 🚨
Yes it is. I could never really get into animes..but this show I watched twice and my anime crazy sister loved it too. One of its biggest strength is that it is short..and therefor every episode has meaning..and I almost never seen such a great character chemistry on stage.
BRO. I was in high school around the time Adult Swim and Toonami started up. During the summers, I could stay up later, but I was still mostly used to a diurnal sleep schedule, so I'd get tired around Cowboy Bebop, GiTS, or InuYasha or so. So I "programmed" myself to sleep during commercials, and wake up when I heard the little jingle that indicated the show was starting back up again. Worked every time except the last commercial break, b/c they sometimes didn't play the jingle at the last bit. The Samurai Champloo soundtrack is probably one of the first anime soundtracks I made _sure_ to buy. That and GiTS & Cowboy Bebop.
When I tell you I have pagesssss of fanfic of samurai Champloo, both smut and non, it’s ridiculous. This show introduced me to Nujabes, shing02, and the genre of Nujazz. I’ve been patiently waiting for season 2 since 2006 and I’ll wait till I’m 100 if I need to. This IS the best anime to ever be created. Nothing is cooler than samurai shit, jazzy hiphop music, crazy and wonderful characters. Mugen has been my main squeeze since 2006 & that won’t ever change. Thank you for using the music from the show as well, RIP Nujabes.
Great video. I was in my early 20's when this show came out on Adult Swim, fell in love with it right from the get-go even though I don't often enjoy anime. I still run through the whole series every couple years. Absolute classic.
Animes like this always have a place in my heart, a group travelling and getting through different kinds of adventures... Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop, Black Lagoon...
I just finished the show last week and I was so pleasantly surprised by it. The soundtrack, the characters, the world building. And you're so right about episode 11 being the best one. It really humanises Jin. I'm not sure whether he fell for that woman due to some sort of saviour complex, but the story was executed beautifuly.
Brooooooooo PLAYED THE SONGS 😢😢😢🎉🎉🎉MAAAN when i hear the traks of champloo i go crazzy. Nujebes and everyone else behind the sound board are appreciated
So, there's this synthwave band called Gunship. They have a song called Dark All Day, its video clip is mostly animated and it's referencing a ton of 80s/90s/2000s movies, video games, anime and pop culture (mostly vampire movies, because that's its theme). The series of kicks Mugen does at 5:13 here is referenced, Blade (the vampire hunter from Marvel) does it at 1 : 59 in the music video. It's on TH-cam, go check it.
First video I've ever seen of yours No bones. Samurai Champloo is my all time favorite anime and was the first boxset I ever purchased. You honored the show and story correctly. Very well done sir.
I saw this show on TV in the early 2000s and again on Funimation around 2018 It was amazing both times The adventures will never continue but the memories will never fade
When I started watching Naruto as my first anime I was kinda hooked but wasn’t fully engaged. When I was talking with my uncle about how I was getting into anime he said I should watch cowboy bebop so I did on and off for the first half of the show and then dropped it for a tiny bit only to binge the second half on plane rides for vacation and that show hooked me and ripped me in half. I couldn’t believe how enjoyable of a show it was, something that I felt live action couldn’t capture properly. I told same uncle about how awesome cowboy bebop was and he told my to watch Samurai Champloo so I clicked on the first episode and left halfway through cause of how violent and dark it seemed. I picked it up to watch the second half the next day and found myself giggling at some of Mugens snarky remarks and other comical moments so I said “screw it” and decided I would watch it. I then proceeded to watch what is easily a top 5 anime without a doubt to this day. This show is simply a masterpiece that everyone should watch (if they can get past the violence atleast)
People usually associate Samurai Champloo's OST with Nujabes but MINMI's endings are so good too, Who's Theme is a favorite.
She's part of the two best songs in the show, no competition
Who’s Theme is beautiful
Yeah but Shiki No Uta is literally a Nujabes beat~

I could watch these analysis over and over just to have a hint on what other people felt when they encountered this masterpiece
I was sometime against anime. I thought it is just weird and all that but then suddenly bumb in to Champloo. Oh damn. This is sooo good.
This and cowboy bebop are the goats
This describes my experience exiting high school and entering college in the mid-'00s to a "T".
I love this anime because it really is about the journey more than it's about the destination. This is my favourite anime.
Samurai Champloo is the most it's-the-journey-not-the-destination anime
God, I love this show. I also found it through Toonami. Makes me nostalgic for younger, easier times.
You made me revisit Samurai Champloo. I totally forgot about that show.
Samurai Champloo is my favorite anime of all time, A rewatch is well overdue
I just finished the show last week and I was so pleasantly surprised by it. The soundtrack, the characters, the world building. And you're so right about episode 11 being the best one. It really humanises Jin. I'm not sure whether he fell for that woman due to some sort of saviour complex, but the story was executed beautifuly.
Brooooooooo PLAYED THE SONGS 😢😢😢🎉🎉🎉MAAAN when i hear the traks of champloo i go crazzy. Nujebes and everyone else behind the sound board are appreciated
Im so glad someone appreciates episode 11 as much as i do, definitely my favorite anime episode of all time
*THIS* is the anime that introduced me to Lofi aka
*Chillhop*
Damn the ending song does make just sit there and reflect back on the journey. The failures, the relationships and the what ifs.
its has been a while since i enjoyed a video like this, well done bro.
I love how you ended the video with those wise words , sick work 🤙🏽
AYOOOOO WHERE U BEEN BRO! QUALITY WORK AS ALWAYS
Been waiting for this 🙌
The scene where Mugen is drowning with the soundtrack is peak anime.
Crazy how I relate to everything you said in this video I feel like everyone who loves this show does. You my friend just gained a new subscriber
Bro that last line cracked me up, nice video
First video I've ever seen of yours No bones. Samurai Champloo is my all time favorite anime and was the first boxset I ever purchased. You honored the show and story correctly. Very well done sir.
This weird nostalgic empty feeling when the show ended makes me wonder about the lives of the characters who never exist in real world. 😢
I saw this show on TV in the early 2000s and again on Funimation around 2018
It was amazing both times
The adventures will never continue but the memories will never fade
NUJABES with the soundtrack made this anime GOOOAOTED as fuuuuck
Your vids don´t miss man, hope to see more soon.
