Do you think it matters the weight of the hammer you use for a forge weld? I’m thinking, based on my experience (about two years worth) that yes. A heavier hammer does set a weld faster and better but I haven’t heard any other blacksmith talk about it
The reason it's hard to talk about is because the weight of the hammer is relative to what you are welding (or forging). A 2lb hammer is heavy if you are welding 1/4 round but way to light is you're working on 3/4 square bar. There's no one hammer that will be right for everything.
