  • Stories of Climate change impact from Vitogo district:
Part of a research conducted in 15 communities revealed how disasters contribute to increase in poverty. While we have been discussing sea rise for years, Lack of repair of flood gates is causing salt water intrusion into farms impacting food security 😐
As we commemorate International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, we share with you climate impact stories of communities we have been working with in the Vitogo district. All our programs are focused on strengthening the resilience of these communities and to share resources to prevent hazards from becoming disasters as we partner with Global Network of CSOs for Disaster Reduction (GNDR).
With only a few weeks left to the start of the upcoming cyclone season, disaster risk reduction is top priority as we try minimize potential loss of lives and homes. According to the Fiji Meteorological Service, a total of 5-7 named tropical cyclones are expected between November 2022 to April 2023.
We encourage at-risk communities to plan ahead of time, clean drains of all rubbish, prune big trees and branches, store food and clean drinking water, check evacuation plans and safety kits and #preparenow. #DisasterRiskReduction #foodsecurity #povertyalleviation #communitypreparedness #GNDR #communityinclusion fijivillage GNDR
