A few factors created a perfect storm that keeps people away: 1) work-from-home was widely adopted. 2) an increase in property crime, particularly car break-ins. and 3) many businesses have left which of course decreases foot traffic.

It won't help at all. People don't feel safe in San Francisco. Tourists are no stupid. Once they come once, never come back and ask their friend and family no to come back. Heartbreaking moment for all who drive to SF. Passport get stolen, get robbed pointed by gun, and harassed by mental homeless/drug addicts, shit everywhere in the street. Plus, downtown SF is like a ghost town. What businesses are still open? Why do they want to come here for visits. My family don't even want to come to SF visit me, and I need to drive to Las Vegas to meet them.

SO let me get this straight, there are 315 TOTAL residents in downtown SF currently, THREE HUNDRED TEN.... so there are MORE HOMELESS living in a downtown city (SF) of more than 870k people (several years ago) to now 746k people... over 132k people moved out of SF in the last few years, so around 17% of san franciscans LEFT SF, read that again, 315 people living in downtown (not counting homeless), thousands of homeless are the MAJORITY of the population in downtown SF, 17% of all SFers left SF in 4 years. WOW

If the city wants people to eat out more, they should stop increasing minimum wage. Minimum wage increase high price. Minimum wage is meant for temporary work while in school, not a career. High minimum wage gives high school students an excuse to not go to college. Why go to college when one can earn high salary without going to college.

    • @xiu-li

@ky9616 Minimum wage doesn't apply only to services jobs. But the services job will be replaced by robots. So, minimum wage increases = laying off. Why would an employer pay $20 for flipping burgers? I used to be a janitor making a minimum wage. Because of the low pay that encouraged me to get out to go to college. Again, a minimum wage job is not a career.

Converting all those vacant office spaces to house the undoniciled is easy, and no expensive construction is needed.
Just open, say, the Saleforce building, and invite every undomiciled to bring their posessions and tents, and choose a spot to domicile. These human beings could sort their "neighborhoods" by whatever criteria they want. The city will continue to provide free meals. The city will also ptovide sanitary facilities, such as Porta-Sans, and toughs for bathing.
With this easy and economic solution, vacant office buildings can be put to good use, and best of all, the formerlly undomiciled will now have a domicile of their own. And with the City providing these people all their basic needs, they have no reason to choose to live on the streets, again.😆😆😆👍👍👍
