When I saw them in Scotland a couple of weeks ago they did the opening chords and everyone shouted the "2, 1-2-3-4" along with them and then it just went BATSHIT CRAZY.
+DynomiteKid65 He does. When I saw him last year, the ticket said "no recording", there were signs that said "no recording", and a voiceover on a PA system said "no recording" right before they came on. I'm glad there's video but I feel guilty watching it because it was a clear disrespect of his wishes to record it.
+DynomiteKid65 he wants the shows, and prefers the shows, to be as intimate of an experience as possible, which is also why he loves the soft sing alongs. I think it's good that someone records it, but yeah, he sure does dislike it.
@@2ndimaginarysymphony813it was a Reddit post from long ago. He didn’t do any of that. The man they’re talking about is Nessey Gallons I think. Julian and him were really close friends but never had any intimate relationship to my knowledge
@@nolanwolfejulian and nesey are friends again but nesey never took back what they said about him (listen to the album misprisions). at this point i think they are past it and it isn’t worth discussing much.
"wahh I can't hear Jeff's sweet voice" get over it. The drums are one of the things that make neutral milk hotel so great not just pretty boy Jeff and his sweet little boy voice.
Saw Jeff play this live in an all acoustic one person show. Awesome, then I saw it with the band and remembered that this a rock album. A rock album. Sure, it has elements of folk pop and was magical with just Jeff and a guitar, but it’s a rock album, meant to be performed with a rock band. It just struts and is shambolic powerful brilliance with a distortion and amps turned to 11. The middle finger that Jeff is giving to fascists is palpable when this is played as a rock album and comes through in no other way.
There’s something real sad about seeing the live performance of Holland 1945, seeing older Jeff sing about Anne Frank. Like an old man singing about his lover he had when he was young, that he lost.
That doesn't make you a professional. I can sell socks for a living, that doesn't make me a professional sock salesman, does it? This is independent music, quite the opposite of professional.
Professional does not necessarily equal big money and suits. A professional is someone who is better than most at a particular job and does it for their livelihood. Neutral Milk Hotel is an organised group of professional musicians who exclusively use metal mouth pieces on their high brass instruments. To answer your question, yes I do believe you can be a pro level sock salesman.
+Lonus Bjonus can't really form a conclusion on the sound of the show, when your judgement is determined by this video...filmed on a phone. just sayin...
If the bassist is spinning you know it's a good song
Hoe Bonamassa Ikr Juilian Koster is the best xD
So every primus song? I agree :D
the BASSIST is Julian Koster
That’s how i measure the coolness of a new song. I become S P I N N Y B O I
Julian Koster looks like that weird cousin

same thing in Paris
Same in May of last year!!
They should freeze and cry. This song is about Ann Frank and her theft of life. But it's joyous in her memory.
@@chasebob8327 The entire album is basically about the Holocaust
@@scottandersen4798 specifically Anne Frank doe and her pov of the WW2
I feel guilty watching this because I know Jeff hates being recorded...but fuck.
Does he actually tho? like besides the ARE YOU RECORDING ME meme, he seems nervous performing.
+DynomiteKid65 He does. When I saw him last year, the ticket said "no recording", there were signs that said "no recording", and a voiceover on a PA system said "no recording" right before they came on.

this is so weird this song sounds exactly like on the album even the noise and low fi is there
Lol it really doesn't, their live performances lack the insane compression that the post production provided
And that’s the way we like it
@@donovanlight6278 well its being recorded on someones phone camera 😂
How is Julian not getting tangled in his own bass cord?
it is cordless
lol! @@Ohmuniac

Jeff is one of the greatest song writers of all time. Also James Mercer
Completely agree
And Doug Martsch
Go shins!
Yeah. But Magnum is high up there while there are many ahead of mercer by a long shot. But I guess you're talking about Jeffs in particular.
Love NMH, hate the shins! Polar opposites on my personal music spectrum.
>this is not a love song festival
>the song literally starts with "the only girl i've ever loved..."
Its for Anne Frank
This is not a love song either, boy.
Guys I think it's a joke
Can barely hear the vocals over the drums
His vocals are so lively and honest specially in this song... its sad that they were a bit too low
+Hanna Hutchinson Agreed. But the drums at 2:18 are waaay too great.
yeah they’ve had trouble mixing lmao
all amateur recordings usually have the drums overpowering the rest of the band, it probably sounded alright live

They were going off so hard Jeff had to activate star power
Underrated comment
I didnt know the guy from duck dynasty had a band

+Ryan Camire "that looks like that!" isn't quite high tier comedy.
Hilarious!!!
Damn bro you got the whole squad laughing 😐
julian is just a legitimate crazy person and i love it
The raw phone recording makes it sound like the record much respect
did they use a fuzz pedal on the bass?
I think its just muffled by Jeff's beard.
OMG I LOVE NEUTRAL MILK HOTEL SO MUCH!!!!!!!
All these people have aged like a fine wine and that’s beautiful.
Y'know, when i think of heaven i think of *HOLLAND, 1945'S CHORUS AND OUTRO*
You can just see Jermey going apeshit on the drums and smiling so hard in the background. God I love neutral milk hotel.
To this day the best show I've ever seen, glad I was able to see them once
Agree. It was a literal dream come true.
It was a magical tour ❤
these drums are so simple yet because of the loudness are so emotional
Amazing stuff. Such a great song.
My fave Neutral Milk Hotel song yesssss
I want to hear a Julian Koster bass solo so bad!
I love that Jeff is STILL putting himself off to the side

What kind of a professional performer uses a plastic mouth piece on their tuba?
These aren't "professional" performers.
Kyle Smyth They're doing it for a living so it's totally professional. Regardless, they should want the best sound possible for their instruments.

God the sound guy needs Jesus. Drums are way too loud. No idea how Jeff is Singing. It damn sure ain’t being able to hear himself

It just wouldn't be Neutral Milk Hotel without Jeremy Barnes' killer drums
