    What I really appreciate about this video is that you are arguing for excellence. I think that's fantastic because we live in an era of surface over substance. I just started making music a few years ago. Am I excellent at music? Not YET. So no collabs. Yet. But in the years to come - that is one of the goals. I am putting in the time. Building the skills. I think people jump the gun, when they should be putting in the time. Your channel has excellence (as well as self-effacement, lol) as a consistent theme and I am here for it!

    Seriously though, mutual respect and love of each other's music is key to a good collaboration. I love collaborating with others, as it allows the music to go to places it wouldn't get to if it was just me. Also defining boundaries and what you want from the other person at the outset helps loads. You still have to give the other artists space to do their thing, but let them know what you want from them

    I was just thinking the other week that people don't do bands anymore , it has several reasons which I can count , and probably some more.
    1. its so easy to record music these days that one person can almost do it all (although arguably is it Good that one person do it all artistically?)
    2. no one is going to do small gigs with their expensive\vintage synths
    3. it requires deep collaboration and partnership , something that humans are not capable of anymore ?
    I would like to hear your opinion and assessment on this issue

    • @JamesonNathanJones

      I think there’s truth to what you’ve listed here, but as you say, there are a lot of factors. I think where you live and whether there are any people in your circle that share musical taste and vision has a lot to do with it. Music is highly personal and while I love collaborating, I also love making things on my own. I think it’s good to do both.

    This story became a colab bromance... Good stuff.
    I have always wished I could link up with a friend with similar tastes or a mentor to go through the journey with me. Not even collaboration; just sharing in the journey. Music production gets lonely af. People you look up to ignore you (because you're just another bro, and they don't have time to respond to everything). If your music sucks, people whose opinion you care about will say or do things that they don't realize stab you in the heart even when aiming for a compliment -- e.g., "I like this part; it sounds like that song on that pharmaceutical commercial." Presumably (I wouldn't know), if your music is amazing, people will kiss your ass and who knows who your real friends are anymore.
    If you do get lucky and make friends with someone that has some interest, they are probably into some weird reggae jazz or something -- not your totally normal style that only a few people, like you, are into... So, you always end up kind of talking around each other.
    I've joined discord channels of people I like, like Bound to Divide, and tried to be a positive active member in such places. But despite the quantity of people, I've never made quality connections.
    Fortunately, this is just a passion for me and not a profession, or I'd probably be in a dark place about it.

    Hey, are you a big fan of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross soundtracks?
    Because, the music of the background made me feel a similar feeling as some of the Social Network pieces (I mean that in the most respectful and flattering intention, I’m a HUGE fan of theirs).

    I left so many kind comments under your videos so you should invite me to colab 🔥🔥🔥 (Just joking) Would be interesting a video on how actual colab is happening (between you two as example) because I have noidea how it looks like 🤣 I was thinking about colabs some time ago but I left this idea after realizing that someone should INVITE me to colab because in other way it's just someone will spend time on me to give me few of their listeners/subscribers which is nonsense 🤭

    also you are kind of self-sabotaging your TH-cam prospects imo , nobody likes a showoff.
    I'm not your agent or anything but If you did have an agent then this is what he would say .
    likeability is far superior to anything else you may appreciate .
    personally I do appreciate where you are coming from but that's very .. old-school
    not sure schooling your TH-cam viewers will get you anything ..
    btw do you have any courses online you offer ?

    • @JamesonNathanJones
      @JamesonNathanJones  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The whole point of the channel is just to share my experiences, because that’s the only thing I have authority to speak on. I’m curious what aspects of the video you perceived as showing off? I tried to make it clear that I’ve been on both sides of this situation, and I do truly believe everything I said in the video. I personally think that authenticity is more important than anything when building trust with an audience.
      I don’t claim to be a world-renowned artist, but I might be a step or two ahead of someone else and hopefully that will be helpful for someone.

    • @solarion33
      @solarion33 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JamesonNathanJones
      that's so old school , its the internet you have authority to speak on whatever you like and then some.
      I'm sure your attitude will have respect among other professional musicians and artists and if that's your number one priority then be my guest. for many others a youtube channel is a means to earn some dough for content creation where "content creation" is a very broad term ..
      I must say there is a stark contrast between this "professional artist" attitude and your sometimes self-depreciating jokes.

    • @JamesonNathanJones
      @JamesonNathanJones  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No, I strongly disagree. The ability to speak on whatever one would like via the internet absolutely does not give one authority to speak on that subject. Authority is built through experience and a continued pursuit of mastery in a field.
      As for this channel, I don’t care about having the largest audience, but rather the right audience.

    • @IvoSiem
      @IvoSiem ปีที่แล้ว

      @@solarion33 It shows that Jameson does what he "preaches". I think the ability to assess ones talents and capabilities makes a good artist. Imho you can undoubtably hear the professionalism in his music even though you may not like it.
      I would rate his music as high as eg. Jon Hopkins or Rival Consoles. Both are respected artists and have the luck to be on well curated labels.
      I like this honest approach way much more than some "marketing ploy" of being nice for the sake of business tactics.
      It would be very interesting to see what pays off longterm.

    • @solarion33
      @solarion33 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IvoSiem
      you can be honest and direct in your own professional and private life by all means imo .. in the "public" domain and as long as you don't have like 50k subs you better not make too harsh assersions ..
      take Ben Jordan for example , for a long time I and probably many other people only knew him as a youtube guy covering all kinds of music and production related stuff ... its only quite recently probably last year or so that he merged his professional life with his youtube persona ..but only after he got a substantial following ..
      in this spirit its my opinion that its better not to put the cart before the horse ..
      but then again I'm just a guy with an opinion
