I once received a package from Uzbekistan that came inside a linen casing which was sewn shut around the bundle. My address had been written on the linen carefully and beautifully in waterproof black ink and the whole package was secured with strong hemp cord and A WAX SEAL!!! NEVER HAVE I FELT MORE SPECIAL than the moment I broke that wax seal! It was so exotic and ancient an experience I felt transported back in time by centuries. I had ordered something mundane from eBay and this is how it was sent to me! Glorious!!!
I received a package, a box actually, from India that was in a sewn cloth wrapping too! The address was handwritten in cursive style in ink! It was lovely beyond words. I saved that cloth package as a special memento.
That is a high compliment and well deserved. Mr. Roger's was one of a kind and inspired many hearts 💕 around the globe 🌎 Watching Rajiv's channel is like taking a step back in time. Much needed for an old soul.
Rajiv, I'm convinced despite the impossibility of it, that you are the secret love child of Tasha Tudor and William Morris. I mean this as a huge compliment.
For your viewers - just don't try sending those packages with string through the mail! These days the packages will get caught in modern machinery. I like to leave the seal in the wax until the wax is completely cooled to get a good impression, love the extra drops! I'm gonna try that - also don't send wax seals through the mail, they will break, put the letter in a padded envelope and write 'hand stamp only' and hope for the best! Best wishes Rajiv!
Rajiv's OG video about present wrapping with HGTV is like my holy bible of wrapping. I only wrap presents like this now. Such a game changer and I always get compliments about how simple and beautifully my presents are wrapped! Can't wait to see what other tips are in this video!
Same! Ever since that video, I've ditched using expensive gift wrapping paper and just use brown paper, string, double-sided tape and bows now. AND I got into making wax seals and even had my own wax seal brass stamp made - and create a wax seal onto the strings and/or the gift label to stick in on
Speaking of wrapping, I was just in Hong Kong and I was in the mall and I saw the wrapping paper you designed for Lane Crawford!! What a surprise! So beautiful.
As I was watching this with my 6 year old son, engrossed in learning about all things delicate and beautiful, I realized you're our modern day Mr Rogers ...Thank you for your content!
I'm binge watching your videos because I am having a sad day. All of your videos are so pleasing to watch. So far I've learned how to arrange flowers. I think silk flowers could be used if fresh aren't available. I learned to bring wet wipes when scrounging antiques. The most satisfying element of this video is the sound of the sharp scissors when cutting ribbon. I'm a geek that way. I think I would use sealing wax on the folds of a large present. Are you using new stamps or old? They looked new. Old used stamps are cheap and would be perfect for gift packages. Now, which video is next? I love your soul...it's a beautiful place to be...
As a fellow Canadian I see you as a national treasure.❤️. You are right that teaching someone something is the greatest gift, so thank you for all of these gifts you give us through your channel, Rajiv.
Rajiv, I’m so grateful for you. All your videos offer me this excitement that’s uncommon now with youtube. Your videos are thoughtful, unique and I can tell full of love. Thank you for that
Thanks for another great video. I used to be like you Rajiv... My gifts used to look like works of art... This year I realize I wrapped all the Christmas gifts without "mindfulness". I forgot "Be Here Now". We all need you to help us to be in the moment and focus on exactly what we are doing instead of thinking of other things while hastily and carelessly doing our activities.
I have leveled up my mail with the use of wax seals, so I was fascinated to hear more about the history of its use. I add a drop of essential oil in mine for a light fragrance. I want to be best friends with Rajiv and just craft the day away 😊
Oh my God! I loved your Old soul before, because you are literally an incarnation of who I always wanted to, but never gad the courage to be. But now that you used a Polish word and mentioned Robin Hood, I love you even more. Thank you for bringing Joy into my life. Winter Greetings from Poland!
I’m 65 and so enjoyed this. As a young teen I used sealing wax to seal letters that I’d write, love it❤. Would love to learn how to make beeswax candles
I am currently home with COVID and feeling miserable. Finding your channel has been a life saver!!! Thank you for taking me to Chicago to see how harps are made, to Connecticut to make stoneware, and to Kingston to go antiquing. I’m ready to make my whites whiter and get my cast iron pan back in shape because of you. I can’t wait to be healthy again to try some of these things you are showing us. Much love to you and yours!
No accident that your surname is 'Surendra'. Thank you for sharing your 'Serene' way of life Rajiv. Your always reminding me with every video to get rid of sub par 'junk' in my life, i.e. physical items, toxic relationships, or you name it. It's so encouraging! For years I've used sealing wax on greeting cards personally handed out, now I'll give it a try wax on gifts too 🎁, so pretty!
I grew up in the uk 🇬🇧 My grandparents used to wrap everything in brown paper packages with twine-and have us pick pine cones and berries and greenery during the holidays as the decorative part and hand write all the cards and labels with ink and using calligraphy. ❤🌲🎅🏻 watching you made me have fond memories of that . I still put a lot of effort and time into making gifts and making my own cards and it brings me great joy .
I came across this video on complete accident. My phone was just playing videos at random. And I must say, you sir, are an absolute delight. Wholesome content, love it ✨
I would love to see a series of handmade gifts (soaps, candles, knitting, jams/jarred product etc) for the holidays next year! I am aiming to do a handmade christmas next year and I'm starting with an herb garden to forage from when I make tinctures and syrups. Love your channel, it's always such a comfort in the chaos of the internet.
Hi Rajiv 👋, my third grade teacher taught me to make a wreath with tissue paper. I still make them today and like you mentioned I think about her and wish her well..
Even when you are using tape, I think your tip of crisply creasing the edges is key in present wrapping! It not only makes it easier to wrap (the paper hugs the object just like you said) but those creased edges will make even the most weirdly shaped presents look neat and tidy, and will make a regular shaped box look positively professional. I think it's my favorite wrapping secret!
I don't know why, but every time Rajiv said 'bone folder' all I could think of is some sort of character of a giant WWE wrestler folding an opponent in half like a book.
Rajiv, you need your own brick and mortar store in NYC so that we can all take a pilgrimage and purchase all the things! I absolutely love all that you do and share. You are a beacon of light and joy! ✨
This is such a lovely video, and I just want to add that the editing on this one is perfect. The music is well-timed and adds depth. Perfect release date, too. Great job to the behind-the-scenes team on this one!
In a time in which our modern “art” is cold, sterile and vacant, it’s so refreshing to see that every aspect of your way of life is so genuinely artistic with a warm soulfulness. Watching them revives something essential that I didn’t know was depleted in me, until I began watching. Thank you! ♥️
I love putting stamps on my packages too. But I actually use used stamps. I have been collecting used stamps I got in the mail ever since I was 3 years old. So I have a big selection to choose from 😊
Amazing how watching someone wrap a bar of soap can be so calming. I recently found your channel and find your voice and content weirdly mesmerising. Love it.
I wrapped all my gifts for the first time in fabric. I was super lucky in a secondhand cerity shop i found a Big piece of Christmas fabric.the turned out so beautiful and cozy! You can hold the fabric together with a few needels nutill you have the tie fixed to hold it all together. Just remember to remove the needels again ;) im never going back to cheap closy papers for sure!
I just started this video, but I wanted to let you know that I really love all your videos they're so calming and so..... Positive. And helpful! Thank you. ❤️🥰😍
Nothing is as classic as a big red and white ribbon! I had a friend as few years ago who introduced me to brown wrapping paper and I haven't gone back ✌
Rajiv, thank you for teaching me how to make the bed beautifully, how to do laundry with bluing, and how to live life beautifully! My world would not be the same without you. Wish you all the best 💛
Your channel is incredible--I strongly relate to your creativity. Starting to watch as many videos to catch up but think you are an intuitive creative. Perfectionism and passion are your teachers to all your skills. I work around the clock (retired) making new ideas. Creative yes but would call me a recycler. Work with wools, sweaters & cottons from tag sale clothing. Washed and dried it's beautiful stuff.
My favorite part of gift giving, is the presentation of the gift. I will very rarely use tape and almost always use brown paper, burlap, baskets, fabric, wall paper, city maps and more. This video spoke to my soul. ❤️❤️❤️
wrapping gifts is the best part of giving😂 I bought old letter embroidered linen towels (your suggestion) and did the Japanese cloth gift wrap with twigs of rosemary and berries in the top knot!
When spending time it Italy no matter what you buy…..a table cloth, bakery items, a small gift it is always wrapped in paper with no tape and tied with a string. Makes it extra special every time.
God I wish we knew each other in real life. I love homemade gifts and well thought out wrapping. I have mentioned to my family so many times about doing handmade gifts and they absolutely refuse to get on board and they really feel if they are going to spend money on me that I should spend it in them so they won’t even accept a handmade gift if it isn’t accompanied by a gift I paid for, it’s so upsetting. These packages are stunning. I would have a hard time throwing out such beautiful wrappings. I save everything to reuse next year.
Beautiful, reminded me of my Polish Gran wrapping gifts in tissue paper and also making flowers out of tissue paper. She too wrapped gifts using brown paper bags Thank You for the Memory.
Rajiv, I also stack a couple rolls of twine on the arm of my string holder! I remember the day I thought of that and I thought I was a genius! Love that thing! You are great!
I been grappling presents in brown paper since I can remember. My mom did it and I always thought it was so beautiful. It also very affordable as I use grocery stores bags. Brown paper is so timeless
AMAZING!!! I have wondered about every single thing Rajiv addresses in this video here. I never thought I'd learn it. Then tonight I stumble upon this video!! I LOVE moments like this. THANK YOU SO MUCH Rajiv!!
For a while I'm taken away from the mundane to the special privilege of watching you create something lovely and useful. Please put out many of these videos.
I'm going to wrap up a bar of soap following how you've done it and gift it to the girl I hope to spend the rest of my life with. Hopefully we can share many mindful moments together creating gifts to send off to our friends and family. She's real great. I think I'll add a little note inside as well...
I played this while wrapping presents and listening to Norah Jones Christmas album and felt very calmed. I love the beauty you find in ordinary objects and everyday tasks.
You made me smile when you said gift wrapping without using tape. That is so true, and I know exactly what you mean. I love your sensibility and appreciation for the petite beauty in life.
You make the simplest, most ordinary things so much fun, great sense of timing and humor, I find myself smiling as I watch this, and it just feels calm, relaxing, and a most pleasant time spent with a creative, lovely person- many thanks
I tried this and got one perfect gift. It isn’t easy and I wish I had gone to the table instead of the floor. Next year I’ll get set up at the dining table. It takes patience.
What you have going on here, Mr. Surenda, is the highest level of appreciation for LIVING... meaning you see beauty in simplicity and (me too...I used to make soap 20 years ago) enjoy every step of the process, relish the sensations... it's actually very Zen and Taoist thinking. Fine job, ...rock on, because you have mastered what it is all about.
I love hearing you talk about the history and background and meaning of everything you use. The stories of the things that have meaning to you (the candles) are a beautiful way of sharing his memory with others. Also, hearing you wrap the presents is such a calming and pleasant experience. Even though we as your listeners arent able to touch or unwrap your gifts ourselves, it is a very enjoyable sensory experience for us through the screens and makes us feel a part of it. Your channel is such a pleasure to watch. I hope that making these videos brings you as much enjoyment as we get from watching them.
Watching this guy makes me feel like I've gone a century in the past. My Aunt lives in a very old house, with a lot of the old decorations, and i got to say it feels a lot nicer staying there than my house. The old oil lamps in the rooms, the chanteliers, oh and the doors! They all just feel very satisfying to look at. Every piece of furniture looks like it had some imagination put into it you know. They don't look mass produced even though they probably were.
Not sure how this entered my feed, but happy it did. I too love brown paper wrap, homemade soaps and candles, I enjoy carving stamps and printing. I enjoy pretty packages so much I have a Pinterest board dedicated to it and often consider making it a side hassle! Lol This is a fun tutorial.
Worked in an old early 1900's print shop and the owner always used this and so do I... Im obsessed with a beautiful gift 🎁 box wrapped with creative style... And real flowers 🌹 attached is a wow factor on the brown paper... Love you from New Orleans!
When I was an art major, I had a mantra of "show the process." I used this in every piece I created. I also became enamored with utilitarian basics; craft paper, cardboard & welding! I took printer paper boxes out of the trash, covered them in craft paper and printed labels on the computer. I used to to house all of my art & craft supplies, of which I had MANY! They stacked the boxes in closets and on shelves. NOW, I could find anything easily, as well as getting rid of a large volume of clutter.
I was mesmerized by you once again my newfound magician of all things beautiful! Thank you for reminding me of my life as it once was in the early 1960's s and the enjoyment I derived from caligraphy, sealing waxes, stamps, pens, nibs, tags, inks, papers and ribbons. My Ode To Joy revisited through you~ 🙏 Namaste, Rajiv
Hi Rajiv. I just wanted to let you know that I enjoy your channel so much. There is something so relaxing in watching someone make things by hand. Thank you for sharing your inspiring talents with us.
My father taught us to wrap like this way back when we were little. Very special art. A bit too elaborate for little fingers. I’m glad I know how to and of it however. He was a very particular man.
I love the absolute joy Rajiv exudes in sharing his knowledge with us. The simple pleasure in wrapping a gift so thoughtfully is a skill. And the smile of showing off the lovely taper candle he made with his own hands was a delight. Thank you Rajiv!
I am in total awe of your numerous skills Rajiv. Your elegance, poetry, artistic talents and respect for tradition and the artisans of years past are admirable and make watching and learning from your videos such a joy!
I was taught how to do embossing when I was a teen (now 40) and something about back then. Everyone I was surrounded by had some kind of arts and crafts hobby going on. But anyways we used to emboss beautiful stamps with gorgeous metallic fine powder on that same kind of brown paper. And it just lit up our presents. I still have my collection of stamps from back when I was obsessed with owning ever color powder and stamp. Taught my daughters how to do it when they were in their preteen years. I need to bring them out again this year a do that again. A nice little nod to our past 🎁
I once received a package from Uzbekistan that came inside a linen casing which was sewn shut around the bundle. My address had been written on the linen carefully and beautifully in waterproof black ink and the whole package was secured with strong hemp cord and A WAX SEAL!!! Wow! Sounds like a magical package.
What was inside? 🎉
Wow. Do you recall who was the seller?
I received a package, a box actually, from India that was in a sewn cloth wrapping too!
The address was handwritten in cursive style in ink! It was lovely beyond words. I saved that cloth package as a special memento.
That gave me goosebumps, just reading your description. How special indeed!
This comment section is so lovely. I would love to sit down with a cup of tea with a whole bunch of you and just chat about beautiful things.
Rajiv Surendra: the Mr. Rogers of the gentle arts. Thank you for everything you do.
Perfectly said! 😊
That is a high compliment and well deserved. Mr. Roger's was one of a kind and inspired many hearts 💕 around the globe 🌎 Watching Rajiv's channel is like taking a step back in time. Much needed for an old soul.
Yes, with some adult humor thrown in.
I think that Rajiv is a cross between Martha Stewart and Mr. Rogers. In the best way.
Omg he IS
Rajiv, you're going to be the next Martha Stewart. I see you with your own show, magazine and line of home goods. And I'm here for it!
I truly hope so. Rajiv is so talented and genuine.
Yes! Yes! What is he waiting for?
He is much nicer than Martha Stewart...just for starters.
I feel like he's definitely better than Martha Stewart
I could not agree with you more!
Thank you for sharing slow living with us. I wrapped a gift with no tape and I am so proud of myself! 😊
I’m in love with everything about this channel - The aesthetics, the quality, the simplicity, dignity and class!
Rajiv, I'm convinced despite the impossibility of it, that you are the secret love child of Tasha Tudor and William Morris. I mean this as a huge compliment.
Would love to see a video on how you make the soap!
Yes, me too. And how to make the candles.
@@BigIsleGal yes! Would love to see him make both! 😍
Great video. I’m inspired to wrap in brown paper without tape as well. I would also enjoy videos on soap and candle making. please Rajiv?
That was all I could think of when he said he thought about selling them but decided against it…
Yes please
For your viewers - just don't try sending those packages with string through the mail! These days the packages will get caught in modern machinery. I like to leave the seal in the wax until the wax is completely cooled to get a good impression, love the extra drops! I'm gonna try that - also don't send wax seals through the mail, they will break, put the letter in a padded envelope and write 'hand stamp only' and hope for the best! Best wishes Rajiv!
I've received intact wax sealed letters in the mail, no problem.
You can request your wax-sealed envelopes to be hand-cancelled at your local post-office for a small extra postage fee
The people at the post office know how to process packages. I have had successful packages sent and received without any damage.
For wax seals, you send them as “non-machinable” and they usually require extra postage.
I would love your soap recipe! I’d love to watch both a soap making and a candle making video. Please, please, please!
Rajiv's OG video about present wrapping with HGTV is like my holy bible of wrapping. I only wrap presents like this now. Such a game changer and I always get compliments about how simple and beautifully my presents are wrapped! Can't wait to see what other tips are in this video!

A tip for reusing wrapping paper and tissue paper…iron it on a low setting (no steam) to get the wrinkles and creases out.

I played this while wrapping presents and listening to Norah Jones Christmas album and felt very calmed. I love the beauty you find in ordinary objects and everyday tasks.
Teach us soap making and candle dipping Rajiv!!! Please! 2024 goals ❤
I get excited about the smallest things, too. Definitely a kindred spirit.
You made me smile when you said gift wrapping without using tape. That is so true, and I know exactly what you mean. I love your sensibility and appreciation for the petite beauty in life.
You, Rajiv, are timeless and classic.
You make the simplest, most ordinary things so much fun, great sense of timing and humor, I find myself smiling as I watch this, and it just feels calm, relaxing, and a most pleasant time spent with a creative, lovely person- many thanks
So wholesome, uplifting, soothing, and beautiful at the same time! I am very happy and grateful that I found your channel 💖 Thank you!
When you spoke polish i gasped *.* love you Rajiv
Beautiful. I'm learning how to slow down through your videos. Thanks so much for what you're doing!
Dear Rajiv ,everything what you do is bardzo eleganckie!!!😊 Thank you so much.
Greetings from Poland.
I second every comment calling for a video on how to make your own beeswax candles and one on how to make soap! I just know it would be a wonder!
Watching you makes the world go away.
Worked in an old early 1900's print shop and the owner always used this and so do I... Im obsessed with a beautiful gift 🎁 box wrapped with creative style... And real flowers 🌹 attached is a wow factor on the brown paper... Love you from New Orleans!
When I watch your videos, they melt my poor heart with warmth. Thanks love
My Ode To Joy revisited through you~
🙏 Namaste, Rajiv
He's got ADs in the middle of his videos now - ohhh he is big time! I love itttttt (not the ADs but his success) 👏🏽👏🏽
I love the absolute joy Rajiv exudes in sharing his knowledge with us. The simple pleasure in wrapping a gift so thoughtfully is a skill. And the smile of showing off the lovely taper candle he made with his own hands was a delight. Thank you Rajiv!
I never knew wrapping could be mesmerizing.
Love sealing wax. Had a seal and wax from childhood. More seals and more wax now.
Thank you for showing me the beauty in simple things. I appreciate you.
You could be my grandson, you are absolutely adorable in every way and an old soul. What a gift you are.
