Topeka is probably my favorite city in Kansas. So much history there. Glad you enjoyed the video and the shoutout was huge thank you for everything you’ve done for me. :) thanks for reppin’ Kansas Mr. Beat!
Very nice video. It takes me back to when I was stationed at Fort Riley in the late 2000s. I would often go to Topeka to do some shopping or catch a movie, or Topeka would be a stop on my way to visit friends in Kansas City. Although my biggest gripe with I-70 in that area of Kansas is that if you're driving to the west during sunset, the sun will be right in your eyes. Make sure your visor is working and you have a good pair of polarized sunglasses. Or, if you're like me, I would just wait until the sun went down and made my way back to Fort Riley in the evening twilight.
I'd personally revise the routings in the Topeka and Kansas City areas: I-35 would run the length of the Kansas Turnpike (concurrent with I-70 east of Topeka). I would personally relocate it to I-435's northern and western legs, but there is a missing link in the northeast. I-70 would bypass Topeka, using what is now I-470. Current I-70 becomes "Business Loop I-70" (hidden I-470), with the option of dismantling it downtown if the city wants it. I-470 is no longer signed from Kansas. I-335 would move to I-35 between Emporia and Kansas City, running right into downtown. If I-35 is shifted in the Kansas City area, any orphaned freeways get renumbered to a 3di as needed.

There is a landmark of the school that was the center of that in Topeka. We visited the last time through but at the time everything was still shut down due to Covid restrictions there. If you do a tour of the capitol building there is a civil rights museum down there that not only covers that case, but also the importance of the abolitionist movement in Kansas as well. I lived in Topeka in the late 60s early 70s when I was just a toddler and don't remember much of it at all, which was the only reason why my wife and I stopped there on our way to Colorado, otherwise we would have just driven right by. I am glad we stopped.
Tell that to Kansas. When you enter the state, the welcome sign says “home state of Dwight Eisenhower, 34th President.” a lot of people don’t consider their birth State their home state, but where their earliest memories from their childhood took place. Even in my case, my place of birth was San Jose, California, but I don’t consider San Jose my hometown but rather somewhere else because I have no memories growing up there. It’s all subjective and based off one’s personal preferences.
Nice one as usual. A pity it was in late afternoon for the most part and the poor lighting that resulted. The I-70 through downtown definitely shows its age... What's next?
Topeka, KS is an interesting state capital city. Even though it's not centralized, but it's on the east which is in the most populous part of Kansas and it has the Kansas River that flows through.
A lot of history took place in Topeka, hence why it’s most likely the capital city. Ideally you want your capital to be centrally located in a state but it doesn’t always workout that way. A lot of western states don’t have a centralized state capital. Carson City, NV, Salem, OR, Cheyenne, WY, Lincoln, NE, Santa FE, NM come to mind.
I've travelled this turnpike many times. Used to live in Topeka.
I'm just going to say this, Topeka is probably the most underrated State Capital.
Along with Helena and Frankfort.
My place of birth! Thanks for the shout out!

Been a long, long, LONG time since I've been to Topeka, even though I'm not too far away... Just a stone's throw in the grand scheme of things.
Love the video and soundtrack
Thank you very much!

Nice tour. & we had certain Road Warriors who believe there's little of interest on I-70 between St Louis & Denver. This proves otherwise.
I cant believe people actually say that. There’s beauty even in the places you least expect. Thanks for tuning in!😊
I don't think I'd go as far to say that Eisenhower was a native Kansan. Yes, he grew up in Kansas, but he was actually born in Denison, Texas.

Why don't you get those toll tags? There are a lot beneficial for you!
I don’t have much of an incentive to since I’m not a local.
InterstateKyle Oh, right! You're from California! Sorry I asked you that question. I should have known that since I watch a lot of your videos
@@InterstateKyle Alright! Good to know!
Is it just me or does KDot badly need to tweak its schedule for illuminating overhead signs?
