Great Job.. i primed my model with wraith bone, then i use the contrast colour ultramarines blue.. after that i use your coulors from this video.. great..
Great tutorial! When you drybrush with each layer of whiter paint, are you drybrushing fewer locations/less? Also, drybrushing in an up-and-down motion, or just down? Thank you!
Hi Chris, thanks for your comment! The goal is to paint a smaller area the more you lighten the miniature. For the movement, it is an up-and-down motion yes. But not necessarily from the bottom up, it depends on where you want to leave more of the remaining pigments. I have and other video about drybrushing if you want to see more of the motion.
Excellent tutorial, very straight to the point. If you don’t mind me asking, how do you get your wash so cleanly? It never comes out like that for mine.
Thanks for your comment ! Maybe you use it on light tones ? On a dark blue like that the rendering is quite nice without doing anything else (maybe a bit of water in it)
You're like me: I paint my miniatures by holding the base! I mean to grab something to allow me to get a better grip on my miniatures, but I can never allow myself to get something more comfortable... so I paint by holding the base. Great job on the miniature! :)
Oh, Dude! I think you just got me to finally give this whole hobby a try ;) I really like this matte, grainy effect of dry brushing. I always found contrast, water color effect of most GW stuff and many YT painters not really appealing to me. Made a decision to start with Imperial Fists army and here’s my question. Do you think I can try your method step by step with yellow? Do you think it will work with IF color scheme? Keep goin’ ! Subscribed.
Thanks a lot for your comment and subscription ! To be honest with you, it will be more difficult with yellow. You need to undercoat it in white and then fo from an orangish yellow to a pale yellow with a little bit of white in it. The pigmentation of yellow paints is very thin so it leaves more strikings but i'm sure you can do it :)
I know this comment is old compared to video release, I was wondering if the model u used is push to fit, u had all parts connected at the start for the base layers etc but pulled it apart to reach the details? is that correct? I am always to scared to put that much tension on the plastic that it might break. Cheers
Very nice. I must say though, you were very Liberal with the gold. With a lighter layer you could have kept the detail in the skull on the chest piece, also more detail on the gun crest. Still a very nice model though.
@@pystacheminiatures only slightly mate. The power armour itself with the dry brush technique looks fantastic. I have taken to the same technique as I paint space wolves so I want them to look more rugged than clean.
Of course, the rendering will not be exactly the same of course, but close enough or even better for a mat effect. Most of the time I prefer shading with a simple wash rather than using nuln oil
No I meant in terms of the dry brushed effect. I’ve seen other Space Marine paint jobs where a varnish smoothes everything out nicely so it doesn’t look so “dusty”.
If you have ideas for other videos, just tell me guys !
Brilliant. I've actually been using the drybrush technique for my space wolves. I find that edge highlighting leaves too much of a "cartoon" look.
Yeah really true
My favorite method to paint marines. This video literally was the push I needed to get me back into painting minis. Thank you so much!
Thanks buddy ! Good luck for the marines
new to the hobby and absolutely gonna try this for my first space marine army
Thanks! Mixing the techniques led to a great effect with an affordable effort. Great job!

Nice !! Appreciated :)
best dry brush video ive seen.
Siiiick! Love the powdery look. Seems like more natural light is allowed to reflect off the mini.
Though I have no interest in painting Ultramarine colors, at least at this time, this was still an enlightening video. Well done!
Thanks a lot :)
Loved this! Helped me dry brush. What white is the best for the layering of the blue.

Nice mate! Exactly what I’m looking for
i love drybrushing. I do it on my khorne berserkers.

Thanks for your video is amazing ,could I ask if you only use one light blue for your dryburushing? How do you control the lighter color?
Masterful work, beautifully done, and excellent use of the detail on the miniature. Well done, and thank you (:
Very nice simple video, effective technique and also cool music ;)
Thanks a lot for your kind comment
What camera do you use for capture? Quality is amazing!! Great chill video man. thank you!!!
amazing video!
Thanks mate !!
Great vid. Still have my ultra marines from my Dark Imperium box I gotta whip up. WHat's the white you use in this vid?
Thanks for your comment. I think it's dead white from vallejo. But you can use a pure white from GW

Amazing video my friend, i love coming to your channel. Have a nice weekend.
Thanks a lot for your kind comment ! Have a nice day.

Great guide, have you got the link for the song 😍
Everything is in the description ! Thanks mate :)
Can you do a dry brush using purple
Yes it's the same principle !
Great work! Thx for your your hard work)
Thanks a lot mate!
How long did it take to do this marine in this way? Not including the base. The model looks amazing by the way.
Thanks ! Hmm I'd say something like 45 minutes but it can be done really quickly

Thanks for your comment ! Of course, there is a lot of room for improvement on this space marine !

Congratulations from Italy :)
thanks !!
I really like it! What brushes do you use?
Thanks ! For the drybrush, really cheap brushes from the art store can do the job !
I have a question, can that black/water mix work as a close substitute for null oil in terms of shading leadbelcher?
Of course, the rendering will not be exactly the same of course, but close enough or even better for a mat effect. Most of the time I prefer shading with a simple wash rather than using nuln oil
@@pystacheminiatures Thank you for the answer, I’ll be painting my first minis soon and wondered, have a good day
What happens if you finish with a varnish?
Varnish won't affect your painting job with this tutorial !
No I meant in terms of the dry brushed effect. I’ve seen other Space Marine paint jobs where a varnish smoothes everything out nicely so it doesn’t look so “dusty”.
@@alexanderockenden2564 You mean glaze ? You could try but it probably won't be as easy as it looks on youtube videos to get a smooth result
How do you remove the arms without damaging the model? I always have the hardest time reaching around them to paint the chest.
Okay I'm seeing that it looks like these arms were made to be removed.
@@ianfitzgerald9930 Yes, I try not to glue the parts where it'll make the painting process more difficult !
GG WP !
Ahaha thanks buddy
Good stuff. Keep'em coming!
Thanks a lot :)
You are great, continue, you will succeed !
Thanks a lot that means a lot to me !
So the arms don’t come off the ones I put together… 😂
