    Great ideas. I like the way you think. that lighted rocker switch flip that safe from a dark hole to a showcase of display. Very cool.

    I used the type s lights that auto zone sales and use the test light setup so no holes drill into safe and just had to switch to a on off switch that only lights up when on to save battery.

    Made a good choice on the LEDs.. Those 2835SMDs (I believe that's what they are) are great. A lot of people lean toward the 3528 simply because the number is bigger, but they don't realize that the LED shape isn't as good and they don't throw as much light.

    I used a set of white Christmas tree lights and they have been in there for 7 years, lol.

    Looks good ..... If you mounted that electrical box on its side, ( meaning that you would have the outlet facing left or right) you can could cut down on the amount of space that is wasted with the excess wires .....

    You can fit lots of long guns or like 2 ARs. I made my 10 gun cabinet into a 6 scoped gun cabinet by making a 4 inch extension out of wood with magnets on the back of it to hold it in place.

    Well done. Right now I’m in the process of cleaning out my safe. Once I’m done with that I’ll be ready for some decent lighting. Is it possible to reuse LED lighting once you cut it? How do you do that if you can? Cheers!

    @RC isMe -- I actually did use "cool white" led lights, not warm lights. Check out my link for the ones I used in my video comments. I agree with you, daylight or "cool white" is the right choice for this application. Thanks for watching

    For anyone who's interested you can can buy an RGB light strip kit from eBay and probably Amazon. It comes with a remote and allows you to change colors and turn lights on and off. They are pretty cheap. A 5 meter kit with a remote, no power supply is like $12.00. If you have an old 12V power supply that has like less than 1 amp output you can use that instead of buying one.
    I used black foam board from Dollar Tree to mount my lights to. Cut the board to match the shelf and hot glued the lights and wires in place then used some short screws to attach it to the bottom of the shelf. Now if I want to adjust a shelf I just unplug the wire.

    Nice vid. I just bought a new safe and was wanting to light it up. I too am not happy about the prices for lighting kits. Turned out nice man. Wouldn't have even noticed the shelf difference if you hadn't have pointed it out.
    I would like to install a motion censor just for that little extra touch tho.

    I can't believe I'm just seeing this video. Nice job you went the extra mile on all of your add ons even the bracket for the light switch is done in the gray felt and not a bunch of spaghetti running around the safe. Curious about how you attached the led strip to the safe frame. I'm looking to do this but want to use some sort of magnetic switch that senses when the door is open and turns the led on.

    I used a magnetic switch so when you open the door it comes on just like a fridge.

    Nice video....waiting on my safe to be delivered...very intrigued with your setup...my question is why did you choose the "Warm White" vs the "Daylight White" I think I would prefer the brighter lights just my personal preference. The Liberty safe already comes with the power outlet and I think your lighting job would definitely be an improvement over their LED wands or LED lighting kit.

  • @Spectrum184

    I did something similar but I used a magnetic switch on the bottom of the frame and put magnets on the bottom of the door. The lights come on automatically when the door opens.

      My only concern or thoughts with a motion switch or manual switch of some sort is wither to use it on the low or high power side. I wired my safe to a GFCI breaker considering inside there is the last place I need failure and arc. My thought is on a switch is to have it on the 120v side to keep the power converter powered off. Just over time, it’s just something not to fail.

    Really nice job.
    I've got a cheap Sentry safe I want to add shelves to. My guns are scattered throughout the house, so the safe is used for important documents. I'd like to use those strips along the sides that take clips to hold the shelves, but I don't see how to attach the strips without drilling through the sides of the safe. Are the strips attached at the factory with spot welding?

  • @joshuanattinger9694

    Love the idea. I'm not to sure about the power box inside the safe. Especially because you said you don't know much about wiring. I'm no electrician but I work in the trades and that's not up to code. People buy fire safes for a reason. If you're going to introduce a chance of fire into the inside of you safe just to save a few bucks to put in some lighting then cool. I'm not judging.

      My safe had a hole in the back already, about the diameter of a regular power cord. I bought a power cord that had a plug in on one end and bare wires on the other end. I ran the bare wires into the safe and wired up the outlet box. I hope that answers your question. Thanks!

    Nice job...it looks clean and cool. I've watched a ton of TH-cam videos on how peole have been doing this because I'm going to do this soon for my safe. Some have it just around the inside door frame (such as what you did) and some also have it under each or numerous shelves. I think it depends on the size of the safe and what LEDs you use because yours looks nicely lit for just being around the door frame, but others (seemingly much larger safes) look better with some LEDs under the shelves. My safe isn't very big (59"x26"x20" exterior), so I think I'm going to do it around the door frame like you did and then see how it looks with all my crap in it. LOL! Anyway, thanks for the good video and the link to the items you used.

    • @TheGadgetNut

      For this set up a converter of some type is needed. I went on the safe side and got a good one so the power needed didn't heat it up too badly and become a hazard. May be a bit overkill but I figured 'buy nice or buy twice". Thanks for watching.

    One thing I will school you on right now.....you DO NOT have 110 volts coming into your house. If your house is like all normal houses in the United States { meaning you do not have 3 phase power coming into your house } what YOU have is 120/240 volts single phase. No 110.......120 volts to that outlet in your gun safe.

    how exactly did you wire the switch into all this?

    • @TheGadgetNut
      @TheGadgetNut  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Switch wiring is just like how you would do it in your house. Splice all wires and run a section of each up to the switch, wire the switch, them run a length of each down to the intersection where you made the splice. Think of it this way--the switch just interrupts the power supply between the transformer and the light strip. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

      @zodiackills 10 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @daemonlee6259

      That's definitely another way to do it. I did an outlet instead of a power strip because I thought it was neater in appearance.

      I never claimed this was the best safe on the planet. I hope no one had that impression. Of course if you have a lot of valuables then you would want to get the best safe you could afford. That is what I did. I know you're not saying, "might as well have nothing if this is the safe you want to buy", but some people out there think that way about a lot of things and it is often flawed thinking. It is a great safe for the money. If you can afford better or have a lot of valuable items then go for it.

    • @TheGadgetNut
      @TheGadgetNut  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      There you go, I like that thinking. Great ideas. Ever wish you could build a home AROUND your gun safe could go or be hidden? Heck, who wouldn't love a sweet built-in walk in vault. Maybe someday.
