Took mine to the mountains. it rides really well, primarily because of the in-line 4 motor. The only issue is that there's not a lot of motor-stopping when coming down the mountains at a brisk pace so you will need some heavy braking. The stock breaks are awful, so I switcheed to Brembo brakes and that changed the whole equation of this bike.
On the 2019 Z900RS cafe which I do own, there are two KTRIC ride modes, normal and rain mode, or just just turn off KTRIC. Add the akro header and stock muffler with an ECU flash gets you close to 117 HP. You loose ten pounds with the akro header, and gain 11-12 HP. The only drawback for this bike is the rear shock for heavier riders needs stronger springing and higher damping levels. Set up for 175 lbs rider. Does great on smooth roads and 6/10's riding but damping will fade with 20-30 minutes of harder riding or slightly rougher roads. Increased preload on rear shock helps a bunch and gives a bit quicker turn in feel as well if your weight is over 185. The ECU flash makes a world of difference in that snatchy throttle. This is a great ride and it truly grows on you quickly. Over 3000 miles on mine now and its great fun.

Just bought this bike and I'm loving it. It does have a rain mode. I am 5'8 and I cannot sit flat footed on this with both feet down. Does not matter to me, I usually only drop one foot and a stop light. The bike is fairly comfortable and like the reviewer said my back is fine on it. In traffic my hands do get fatigued, vibration through grips, clutch. I'm buying foam grips I think will help with that. The bike can be snappy in low gear. Kawasaki hit a homerun with this bike.
I put foam grips on mine and some 20mm Voit bar risers. That's the most you can go without getting longer cables. I also rotated the bar mounts 180° which sets them back a little bit. The combination of the rise up and back made a world of difference.
OC: I have owned the Z900RS Cafe for a year now and absolutely love it! You are on point with its faults, but you do get used to them. A lot of folks recommend an ECU flash and you get some decent HP gains as well. When compared to its rivals, I do think its missing some character and the details could be better (indicators for example or more color options). Kawasaki doesn't really offer any accessories to personalize the bike either. The bike has been out since 2018 and the 2022 model is no different other than the color scheme. Would love to have seen Kawasaki take some customer feedback and improve on the bike. Maybe 2023? Overall the bike is great and with a little aftermarket help, it can be ever better. For the price and what you get over its rivals, you should definitely shortlist this bike, especially if you're in the classic motorcycle market. Love the video Chase! This bike needed a shout out!

Looks like it would be a fun bike to mod out with some performance parts and a better suspension. Definitely a winner in the looks department for a modern cafe racer. Would be cool to see in a red on black frame.
Get the ecu flashed, it’ll sort the twitchy throttle, increase the horsepower, richens the air fuel mixture and makes the bike run even better, it’s the best mod you can do for it.
I fell in love with this model ever since I first saw it at EICMA in 2017. At that moment I had a CB900 in the garage, that I loved so much. I was saving for an Africa Twin last year, but a real opportunity arose and I have bought the Kawasaki Z900RS Café new, for half the price of the HAT. Not same porpose bike, but GOD, what a beauty and fun motorcycle it is. On the negatives other that the snatchy throttle, I would mention the ABS coming in too soon on the back wheel. It might actually be a good feature for security reasons. Other than that, beans! I love it!
The old V65 Magna is really twitchy on the throttle and due to the power of the bike and the touchy throttle the bikes were nicknamed the "Widow Maker"... very easy to wreck. They do an 11 second 1/4 mile, 1100cc's
I like the bike! Personally I bought a 2020 ninja 650 ABS last year as my first street bike. My thinking was, super analog, not enough power to instantly kill a newbie. My second bike will probably be the regular Z900 for the same reason. Plus I have a Kawa dealer 5 min from my place :)
If you know the origins of the "Cafe Racer" style. I find it amazing that such a small group of riders created a world wide phenomena that has lasted some 60 years.
the only problem I have with mine, is the compression circuit on the front right fork is very stiff. You can get the rebound pretty right with stock fork oil, but compression feels wooden. You can soften it a bit with thinner fork oil and wind the compression adjuster out all the way, but then rebound is too soft. Since compression is only on the right fork, I could probably fix it cheap by using different weight oil in each fork, but ultimately the compression circuit needs to be revalved from the factory
I looked at one of these (non cafe) when I bought my first bike. Ended up with a Bonneville 900. I have not stopped thinking about this bike and will probably have to get one this summer.
I have the 2019 Cafe and agree with your comments on the short comings. The power is lineal and the brakes are not the best. My throttle isn't twitchy at all but then again I had an FZ09 before this bike lol. I plan on doing an ECU flash which will really wake it up and will be changing the pads out with EBC sintered. Great review!

Cafe Racer (Kawasaki Z900 RS By Oficina MRS) :-- "When we are dealing with Neo-classic motorcycles, most people don't remember there is a Kawasaki on the options list. Just like most motorcycle manufacturers, Kawasaki decided to enter the game with a new motorcycle. Their bet name is the new Kawasaki Z900 RS. Inspired on the 1972 Kawasaki Z1 900, it is now an excellent rival of bikes like the BMW R nine T, Triumph Thruxton R 1200, Honda CB 1100, or even the Yamaha XSR 900."
Take it off traction control and it's a wheelie machine. I own a 2019 Cafe and I love the bike. I used to have the 1984 Eddie Lawson Replica and this bike is just as fun to ride as the my road racing bike was back in the day. I think your judging this bike a little harshly as it pertains to the suspension and brakes. If your wanting a great weekend warrior bike this is your bike. It's a blast to ride in the twisties out here in Northern Az where I'm at and performs great at higher speeds. If you get the ECU tuned by Ivans it will fix the throttle issue as well as the bike running a touch lean and make it run a little cooler.
You can order the windscreen/shroud thru Revzilla for the z900rs and the bike will look just like the Cafe but you will more more of a relaxed riding position on the rs.
outro crew here. I like the retro look. Being born in 1986 this design is kind of nostalgic to me. I just got my first bike (MT-07) and I love it very much! but I can see myself riding a bike like this as a forth or maybe fifth bike to own. I'll probably get a ''project bike'' like the Suzuki - Katana (1986) and custom build it to a caferacer
with all the bikes you’ve ridden. What would recommend for a beginner rider in their 30s. Mainly would use it for interstate commuting to work. With your experience your opinion carries a bit of weight
I had this bike's uglier/faster sister (z900) until about a week ago...my main issue with it was in line with your comment at the 30:37 mark - the bike felt like it was just loafing along unless I was really giving it the beans, and doing that meant I was going quite a bit faster than I want to on the regular. I guess put me in the "it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast" camp...
There is not better combination when look goes along with driving experience. I got suzuki bandit 1200, model 2006. I reckon difference is noticable everywhere.
I can't wait to get 1. The 2022s just came out with brmbo breaks. As far as the twitchy throttle, I have a ninja 1000 and my 3rd gear will take me from 35 miles per hour to 150 miles per hour so if I'm in 1st or 2nd gear at 40 miles an hour it's gonna be twitchy because of all the power so if I'm at 40 mph, I'm literally in 4th gear, relaxing and the bike never even gets close to 2000 rpm's, which is what you want to be above. Good video.
The way I understand it, the twitchy throttle is from the computer doing something funny with the fuel once you're off the throttle. I haven't got mine reflashed yet, but they say it completely eliminates the twitchy throttle. After you ride it a while, you learn to deal with it.
Looks amazing but how "authentic" is it next to the Triumph Truxton or BMW RnineT? I know it looks like a greatest hits from Kawasaki's past but does it feel old school?
IMO, the most direct competitor to this bike is the Triumph Speed Twin 1200. The tune - Your assumptions are incorrect. Most ALL of us like power. They didn't lower the hp to differentiate it from the z900, they used different cams and tune in order to provide more torque down low and to better align with its cruiser intentions. I don't hear any complaints about the brakes from the masses. No, they don't have the initial bite of some bikes, but they have plenty of brake capability. It's not "a little café bike"! 950ccs. Barely a middleweight. The 650 is a MUCH BETTER bike for new riders and is more of a middleweight. Remember, we're talking about a retro-styled bike.
33:07 car did not cut you off, it entered the road, and no it should not have moved to the left lane, you could have moved to the left lane to let it in. "you failed" no they did not. You are small, and much faster than car drivers appreciate. You have to be the proactive one Otherwise nice review. Amazing to see how similar it is to the old Z900s and Z1000s, I had a candy blue one with gold striping from 1978.
There are 2 driver modes on the Cafe 900 Rs. I have a 2019, I find the brakes are very good. The throttle is a little twitchy. I usually ride it in rain mode which takes the twitchy feel away. The cafe has 110 HP.
I test rode one of these the other day and the breaks were very good. I have also done a lot of research and that twitchy throttle is fixed with either a ECU flash or a power commander. Another thing I got from looking at forums and you tube vids is the tires need to be changed to Michelin road 5's. Those seem to be the only faults with the bike, loved my test ride. Seriously thinking about adding this loverly machine to my collection :-)
There's actually 3 modes. KTRC 2, 1 or 0. I ride mine on 1 all the time because 0 would allowed for power wheelies on first. Level 1 still allows the front wheel to come up a couple of inches if you take off aggressively, but keeps things under control.
I have the 2021 café model in that beautiful gray paint that you have to see in person. I absolutely love the bike. I don’t find it twitchy at all. It’s all about throttle control as with any motorcycle. That being said he’s on 2019 model and I think Kawasaki did some re-mapping on the newer machines like the 2021 that I own. I’m not 100% sure but I think they did remap the newer bikes to smooth them out a little bit. Again I really don’t have any complaints with the fueling on mine other than the fact that it has the European emissions. It definitely runs a little lean which can be fixed with a tune.
I don't understand why you're comparing this bike with the RS. You should compare it to the z900, without frills, base, model. They're all really good bikes. But, I question what more you're getting for your money with the other 2 compared to the basic bike. It has more power and is lighter, with the same fabulous engine, that Kava are great at. It's cheaper too. I don't have one, but it would be a consideration apart from the MT09 (new).

@@p.chakraborty4453 you could go for a Triumph Trident. Not as retro looking as this Kawa, but still has some classic bike look and it is a peach.
I went for a test ride, but I felt is a bit too powwefull for my beginer level, I may require six more months riding my easy going 47bhp honda before moving up.
Cheers
(OC) I'm here for the retro bikes. I like this bike and I may go see it at Mountain.
Absolutely agree , I'm a veteran now ( raced supermotos once ), then raced a race prepped 220hp R1 , sold it last year ( wasn't street legal due to the mods ) , now I'm looking for a more relaxed bike for relaxed riding , like this Z900RS cafe.
And now i don't care even if I'm losing races in the streets , cuz i had clocked a top speed of 310kph, and I've won championships before , so I'm very much self satisfied now !
It is my everyday go to bike. Easy as hell to ride and does all that you ask of it along as you dont do anything extreme.
Thanks for the video chase. I bought a 2021 z900rs a few months ago and it's a beautiful machine. Only things I've done is the akrapovic headers and a evotech tail tidy kit.
Looks like it would be a fun bike to mod out with some performance parts and a better suspension. Definitely a winner in the looks department for a modern cafe racer. Would be cool to see in a red on black frame.
I have a Z900RS they are all around perfect
I haven’t had any complaints about the brakes
But I can’t say that I have a whole lot to compare it to
There must be something wrong with the brakes on that particular bike. I find them pretty darn good
I just bought the z900 RS, and I agree that the throttle is a bit twitchy. It takes some time to get used to.
Get the ecu flashed, it’ll sort the twitchy throttle, increase the horsepower, richens the air fuel mixture and makes the bike run even better, it’s the best mod you can do for it.
My father loves the Z900RS and tuned it without cats and it sounds amazing. you should listen what these engines could do. ;-)
This bike has such a look about it. Grabs the eye and heart
They do an 11 second 1/4 mile, 1100cc's
car footage ROCKS man!!!!!!
I'm not a huge Cafe racer guy but this bike is an exception forsure. I seen the new 2021 grey one and my goodness 😍
OC: I used to despise those attempts for classical/retro looks, but they are growing in me.
Oc. Love that bike. As far as retro modern looks I think kawi nailed it best.
If you know the origins of the "Cafe Racer" style. I find it amazing that such a small group of riders created a world wide phenomena that has lasted some 60 years.
I have this bike! Its a true crotch rocket but with the retro body style!
the only problem I have with mine, is the compression circuit on the front right fork is very stiff.

@@p.chakraborty4453 Look for a used one. I picked mine up for 9800 at a dealership. It was a factory demo but in perfect condition with new tires and maintenance.
@@ericrudy2504 thanks for the tip mate !
Can you do a First ride on the new ducati supersport 950?
More modern Kawis! Keep em comin
Cafe Racer (Kawasaki Z900 RS By Oficina MRS) :--
"When we are dealing with Neo-classic motorcycles, most people don't remember there is a Kawasaki on the options list.
OC: I'm in for them 100%
I have the Z900, cousin to this bike. I love mine, but I do like the Kawi green on this one, too. If only I had room for multiple bikes!
I bought a 2020 Cafe model with the Black and Green color scheme and I absolutely love riding it. Miles ahead of the 2013 Ducati Monster it replaced.
Interestingly, all other reviews never complain about the brakes. 😅🙌👍👍
O.C: modern retros are just rad. Simple. Performance takes a back seat to cool and I'm cool with that because I'm not racing on the street.
OC: Definitely love the look of a retro styled bike. Especially the Triumph Bonneville. So miss owning one of those.
I was just looking for videos on this 😂
Thanks Chase!
with all the bikes you’ve ridden. What would recommend for a beginner rider in their 30s. Mainly would use it for interstate commuting to work. With your experience your opinion carries a bit of weight
I want a Yamaha MT-10 with retro styling and touring capabilities
what about a yamaha MT1
Classy Bike Chase i had a classic Z750 as my first bike was cheap to insure coz it was so old and origional
Great bike and very classy. :) A lot of research was done before it came out. :) Keep going.
True ! I get compliments on it (black + grey) all the time.
Put on heater grips and chrome bar for the back seat nice when you can see the moter
Just full on mad max vibes.
This is my dream bike.
Great review love the look of the cafe racer but I,m thinking of my back is it very leaned over compared to the RS?
(OC) I do like these new retro-looking bikes, Honda's CB650R is my absolute favorite!
I got the cafe and my dad has the RS. This bike is not heavy though lol only 475lbs (my ‘81 gs750 was 514lbs). We both love ours. Nice in the twisties
You can also put on a brighter brake light 🤔
i fixed the trottle by adjusting 3 mm of free play into the cable, per service manuel and lowered the idle ..all better
Looks amazing but how "authentic" is it next to the Triumph Truxton or BMW RnineT? I know it looks like a greatest hits from Kawasaki's past but does it feel old school?
OC. I really dig the older look but modern parts. Very cool
Great vid, one of the best, and the brakes on my '18 are just fine.
And i looped my 21 rs cafe last summer. Learned the hard way that ktrc is also wheelie control lol. I miss that bike everyday
Yessir !!! It is indeed wheelie control ! I've never turned it off. Keep it "1" all the time.
Put on heater grips and chrome bar for the back seat
I have been waiting this to happen so long!
Any idea about the wind flow! Cafe fairing does the buffeting bit!??
Did you see the gas prices ?
@@kalnwi2023 I don’t live in the USA
It knocks down the wind some, yes. And no...does not have buffeting issues.
Would you prefer this or the legendary ZRX1200R?
I love the original paint colour of the Cafe but would buy the RS all day long, have test ridden it twice
33:07 car did not cut you off, it entered the road, and no it should not have moved to the left lane, you could have moved to the left lane to let it in. "you failed" no they did not.
You are small, and much faster than car drivers appreciate. You have to be the proactive one
Otherwise nice review. Amazing to see how similar it is to the old Z900s and Z1000s, I had a candy blue one with gold striping from 1978.
OC: big fan of the retro bikes, really want an XSR
Love the look❤
Love the retro bikes! Outro Crew
> 27:55 chase: I would do nothing
> also chase
> first thing I would swap brakes.
You need to decide brother. :D
I have the 2019 and the throttle is perfect
Hows the wind on it compared to other nakeds? I'm on an mt07 for reference
@@ritualghost the same ....better with clean wind flow less noise in helmet
I don't understand why you're comparing this bike with the RS. You should compare it to the z900, without frills, base, model. They're all really good bikes. But, I question what more you're getting for your money with the other 2 compared to the basic bike. It has more power and is lighter, with the same fabulous engine, that Kava are great at. It's cheaper too. I don't have one, but it would be a consideration apart from the MT09 (new).
OC: I love them. I have an FZ07 right now and would consider making a lateral move to an XSR700 for the looks alone.
Absolutely agree , I'm a veteran now ( raced supermotos once ), then raced a race prepped 220hp R1 , sold it last year ( wasn't street legal due to the mods ) , now I'm looking for a more relaxed bike for relaxed riding , like this Z900RS cafe , but the price ain't justifying
Perfect daily rider.
My riding instructor who used to compete for the kawasaki team rides that
OC great review on the Z900RS, now I am really things of getting this motorcycle
i love how these guys all talk with their hands while riding a bike
Compared to the new Speed Twin with the upgraded suspension and RR rubber? OC baby!
