- Emma talks about how her and Elizabeth have fought over the last 6 months and well the good thing about it is that the fights have made them closer. Have you ever had fights with your best friend and then it made you close? Mark and I talk to you about the family changes we are going to make to help our family be better time managed. The phones as mark says the black box LOL is causing a lot of problems between all of us and well it is just time for it to stop! What are we going to do about it?
Missing school now is gonna be different than 9 years ago. School gets harder as you go up in grades. It’s more complex, teachers stop caring and expect you to be responsible and do assignments on your own time. There so much to learn in high school classes that they give you the assignments to do at home so they can keep teaching and get through everything in class.

Exacly, I’m in my last year of high school and in most of my classes there is so much to get through they expect you to do a lot of the assignments at home on your own time so that can keep teaching in class. In high school teacher stop caring because they expect you to be responsible enough to Get things done on your own. I’ve learnt to use my tone wisely and stop procrastinating.
I’ve missed on day of high school and I’m all of a sudden so behind. It really sucks because the teachers don’t care and just except you to learn it all on your own if you miss days.
I did choir and it waw hard to get homework done before the concerts . I barley passed high school but I'm doing better in college cause I learned better study habits and time management . emma will get it eventually
I do agree with this! If you miss one day or one week or whatever it is very hard to catch up and to try and teach yourself whatever you missed. And I also do struggle with the phone and it truly is a problem even if I don’t miss any school
I love you guys so much! But Heather please remember your there momma, parent before you are there friend. Let them be mad. They need to know you and Mark are in charge and they cant always have it there way.

I think your also missing the fact that school gets more complex and harder once they reach high school. At this point, I would have a serious talk with Emma about cheer. If she wants to continue fine, but she needs to sort out her education first. Education comes first. I personally would have taken away cheer once I found out she procrastinated that English assignment.
Right!! I agree. Cheer is something you want to do, not something you HAVE to do.
I am pretty sure that she has had that talk with Emma before. I think it is Emma's last year cheering from one of the past videos because she said it was her last year. You don't know what they talk about not on camera. I'm sure that there have been many chances for Emma to quit cheer to focus on cheer but they don't put that in a video.

Maybe they have had that talk and if they have that would give even more of a reason for cheer to be taken away as she should know by now what she needed to do to keep doing cheer. Education comes first. If you slack off and procrastinate then you have to deal with the consequence of having bad grades on your record when applying for colleges. Personally, I wouldn’t even let her attend practice unless her homework was done but hey, I’m not her parent.

I just think you put a lot of extra stress on Emma, homework and chores I understand are a must but not having a video done for a week shouldn't be a priority. She shouldn't feel like she HAS to film she should if she WANTS to, & I get it's her "job" but she needs to enjoy doing it.
Yes, that's exactly why heather said she is going to have a talk with her about if she needs a break or whatever makes her comfortable and allows her to put her education first

Hi i. Love videos this is good
Growing up I was only allowed my phone for 4 hours of the day 2 hours in the morning and two hours before bed. Before phone time, priorities had to be done, I think it should be the same for Emma and Ellie. Using the app, will help control their usage during school and when they are away from home. But remember, schools have phones in the office and friends have phones, they can alway get in touch with you. I learned that priorities and chores come first and once they are done I can relax on my phone. I’m no longer under parental settings and still have a routine to attend. As for school, Emma is in high school, attendance means everything and that means less fun during the year.
It's a challenge teaching kids to be responsible. Kids getting their homework done & keeping their grades up should be their number one priority. Anything that interferes with that has to be put on the backburner. Sometimes Parents have to step in & make sure that their kids are doing what they need to do. Parents can't worry about being a friend to their kids. Parents must be Parents first! Kids need to understand that their Parents are their Parents and NOT their friends!
As a Parent, there will be times when:
*you have to say NO to your kids. *you have to punish your kids (no phones, no computers, no hanging out, etc)
*you have to make your kids do things that they dont want to do or dont feel like doing (bathing, chores, eating their veggies, going to school, doing homework, etc)
Parents have to be okay with the fact that their kids may get angry with them. So what if your kids get angry with you. They will get over it! That's part of life!
To be completely honest being a teenager myself I don’t think it’s just the phone I think Emma is just really stressed out but isn’t showing it for instance she probably finds some of her homework really hard and just says to herself “ oh well I will just do it later because I don’t feel like doing it right now” not to mention high school is tuff and extremely stressful
High school is going to be a lot harder for Emma to keep up but I agree that she needs to have the monitor on her phone because she needs to be on top of her school stuff, she’s going to have to manage her time wisely since she is going to have a rough month with youtube, vlogging, school, and cheer on top of that. She definitely needs to keep up on everything or she will be behind! Once she gets into more tougher classes in high school she will need to be more strict on herself with school.
if u want them to focus on school and be good at school then take away the pressure of everything else. dont force emma to post or ask her “do u want to take time off” let her channel be her channel dont worry about when she posts or doesnt posts, its her channel, her subscribers. and take away chores. your a stay at home mom and dad. my parents botj work two jobs yet find time to clean the house amd do everything so i have time for track, work, and homework.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with Emma posting occasionally. There’s no need for weekly uploads

Honestly I don’t think it’s the fault of cheer or cell phone usage that Emma is failing her classes. Millions of teenagers around the world do sports, out of school activities, have regular jobs and still find time to make sure they’re doing their school work. It’s her priorities that are the real issue here. She always puts school behind cheer, cell phone use, and friends because she just doesn’t care about it. You need have a talk with her about being mature and responsible and doing her work on her own without her mom having to managing every second of her day for her.
It may be the same amount of time missed but high school is way different. The work is more complex and there is way more homework. Not to mention more tests to make up.
I think instead of putting a app that locks the phone you should take it and put it up until you physically look through to see all her homework and chores are done and then give her phone back. If that doesn't help then make her sit in the kitchen where you can monitor her until she gets it done. Eventually it will stick that she has to be doing her homework.
My son is the same way but not only chicken. He doesn't like eating any type of meat off the bone. He's 22 now and been like that all of his life.
My opinion is ofc ellie isnt on her phone much because she goes outside and play when emma is already growned up and has chores when ellie has no chores which i think she should already have because shes already going to be 10
Heather, you are doing the right thing. You’ll never be the “bad guy” in a situation like this. You are being a mother and doing what’s best for your kids. School is more important!

Hey I know you brought up that Emma has always been the one to do her homework, but i think you need to realize yes it maybe the phone but now she’s in high school. High school gives you so much homework a day, so if she were to miss a week then that’s a lot. And now she has healthy friendships at school, so she’s balancing cheer, homework, friendships, youtube, and housework. i think one thing has to go for a short amount of time .
I agree, and I am pretty sure that they have talked about that. Heather has asked Emma multiple times if she wants to quit doing YT and she said that she hasn't. You do get a lot of homework in school but you learn how to prioritize your extracurriculars. Emma will learn eventually.

Heather, I feel you with this, as I’m going through the same thing right now with my daughter. Her team got a paid bid to Summit, so extra practices, she’s getting a lot of homework also & she’s catching up from having a concussion, strep throat, then she had influenza(3weeks in a row 🤦🏼♀️), she’s actually making up her work during her choir class(her counselor said that was best for her so she didn’t get overloaded with makeup work & regular homework). Just keep doing what YOU & Mark need to do, Heather, as YOU know best. Hugs 🤗🤗💗💗
My school doesn't get out for spring break until like the first week in April and we had no February break and March Break, but we do get out of school like June 16th and start September something.
For summer break we get out on July 12th this year. Most of the time its July 13th but the 13th falls on a Saturday this year

My phone is never a distraction for me. My parents tell me to get my chores done by a certain time that day and if their not done I get it taken away until I finish them. And if I do them then I do my homework and then the rest of the night I chill out and watch TV or do whatever maybe try that before u put a time app on their phones
I forgot to say I don't have chores every day and your girls do so maybe just cut back on the chores a bit and let them be kids while they still have the time
You have to understand that Emma's in high school now not in middle school I just started high school im a freshman and it's completely different you miss one day and it is equal to like 1 week of middle school you get so much work it's not even funny. You should just take that into the picture and she has so much pressure on her with cheer, social media, missing school, and high school. She can't keep up with all of it. She may have in middle school but it's high school.

To be completely honest I do wanna help out Emma a little bit. And obviously all schools do everything differently not every school is the same.... but. When I was in high school it was just awful. Ive always been the kid to do my best in school just cause it came naturally to me. Never failed a class never even really needed help or told to do what I needed, etc. always been a really great student, naturally. But in high school, the teachers just did not really care. I’m not sure if it’s cause they didn’t care or if there were too many students. Just in my class there were over 500 kids. Never once got helped even when asked for it. In fact the one time I asked for help I was straight up told “no, it’s too late into the year to be able to help you” even though he had an after school study/help group going on. I was honestly humiliated and after that I never asked for help again, and that was my freshman year. All I’m saying is even tho Emma’s a good student and might be struggling now, there could be some underlying factors like that

I honestly think it’s more of her prioritizing cheer. I know personally swimming took up a TON of my time in high school but if I had bad grades I wasn’t allowed to go to practice or competitions or anything until my grades were up. School comes first. If she has time after school she should do her work then instead of waiting until she’s home from cheer to start it. 🤷🏻♀️I hope everything gets sorted out! I love seeing you all happy!
I feel like you’re putting so much stress on emma. At our age its hard to get school done. Teachers don’t care as much anymore and I feel like you’re putting so much pressure on her to get school, chores, and TH-cam done. Let her do cheer, maybe that’s what helped her get stress away. You always put her to film and I feel like some of that is on you for doing that to her and raising her that way, but of course I can’t say much because I can’t see what goes behind the camera.

I get my phone on the weekend because i wasnt trying my best in all my classes and i must say i appreciate getting my phone on the weekends or breaks because i work hard due to not having a huge distraction.
Emma is now I high school it is very different and that first grade effects your whole life . Y’all need to take priority in school because it is what matters. If your children are falling behind you have to put concequences like : no fortnite, no sports, no phones 📵, no hanging out with friends because they are in hiegher grade levels and it’s is just going to get harder. If they are falling behind then don’t travel on vacations, cheer competitions, soccer ⚽️ 🥅! You don’t know about other channels !!! TH-cam is not as important as life ! Also Emma was doing extra credit not just doing the homework The didn’t do that was all extra credit

I have balanced school, working 30 hours a week, homework, friendships, and sports when I was in High School. Yes it is a lot, but with time management it is so possible. Yes you may have to sacrifice social media for a while, but that isn't even important! If I could do it at her age I know that she can!

On any apple device there’s a setting that controls screen time and my mom is connected to mine and has a limit on my phone for each day as well as my brother.
At the end of the day school/their education is MORE IMPORTANT than cheer, play list and vacations and TH-cam.......PERIOD. Should they have fun and participate in extracurricular activities ABSOLUTELY. Should you guys go on family vacations ABSOLUTELY but it seems as though all the vacations and extracurriculars come first in your home when it should be the other way around. My daughter participates in activities and we vacation AROUND the school schedule and our jobs. And how are you able to pull them out so many days? Here in the Midwest, those absences would not be excused as these absences are not for medical reasons. A truancy officer would be at our door. Florida must be VERY lenient
In Florida you can miss 35 days before your truant.

And go on vacation when school is out and not miss because of a trip. Maybe home school is the best option since you travel a lot and work a lot as well. Maybe try a program that is not Florida virtual school. It's tough here in Florida with all the testing they do on these poor kids. And they can easily become behind in school because the teachers are expected to rush through their curriculum and if she is not at school the teachers keep moving along. Good luck with everything. I have a child in high school as well. And she is a big procrastinator too I take her phone away from her the minute she walks through the door and I don't give it to her until her work is done. I also keep track of her grades and school work online using the pinnacle grade book. You should try it if it's available in your county.
You must be new here, because they have done homeschool before. Emma was procrastinating a lot on her homework and it was not good for her socially and time management wise. Emma wanted to go back to public school and as Heather said they have missed that amount of school a lot because of cheer and it was fine. Emma and Ellie have gotten their homework ahead of time, it isn't cheer as much as it is Emma doesn't have good time management skills right now. Most cheer competitions are on the weekends, but if they have to travel that's why they skip school. Playlist is only once a year, and I'm sure that they plan those out so they don't have to worry about going over the limit for skipping class.
they have done online school. It was horrible for Emma because she was not able to manage her time and she was distracted by her phone a lot. I think it is important to remember that the main thing that Heather said is distracting Emma from getting her school done is her phone NOT cheer. You can be in multiple things and still get your homework done, but you have to sit down and figure out what you need to do first and then go from there.

Heather, you should do the apple Time screen thing, you can set a time and it locks the apps and you can set a password that only you can access and they can’t get into the apps without you entering the password
Heather just out of curiosity do you punish the girls for bad grades? I always feel like I'm the bad mom because I do all the punishments. I do want to add that I always do vacation when there is no school because they have sports and I always say school comes first.

I think Emma finally has a group of friends she really enjoys and wants to talk with constantly. I think heather has to let her fall behind a little so she understands it’s not as easy to catch up in high school I understand no parent wants their child to fail but that may be the only way she’ll understand school comes first. That’s how I learned and I’m paying the consequences now as a senior I can’t do some activities my friends are involved in because I’m behind credits I lost my freshman year :(
I know how hard it is to manage your time especially while having a phone and I wished my mom put that app on my phone because I constantly find myself putting my phone over priorities. I also do cheer and get home at 10 o’clock. I can’t imagine putting filming videos and editing on top of that.
I think that all 9th graders are reading and watching Romeo and Juliet. I live in NYC and we are watching and reading the play.
Also shes in a higher cheer group now. Everything is gonna get harder with time. The phones have a part in it too dont get me wrong but just realize as as she gets older things will get harder

i just finished the Romeo and Juliet packet
I’m a busy person to as well with the extra activities I’m in full time college and have a job on the side as well I do cheerleading since it is my last year I decided to do it. Along with keeping up with family time things get complicated. Something that helps me is first thing when I wake up I plan my day by the hour it keeps me organized and on course with my schedule that I need to follow even though it might not be the schedule I want to follow I have to push myself to follow it. It includes the times that I have college , the times that I need to study and when I work etc. I even schedule some phone time for a break. I also keep a basic calendar on the side to keep track of days that I have tests and due dates for assignments and meetings etc etc 🙂 I started to do this in the 10th grade and 4 years later I still am.
I haven't been able to figure out the new TH-cam algorithm at all.
