Truly a handsome vehicle. I'd never off road it.... just too pretty. That exhaust note is definitely intoxicating. Perfect for the northern Virginia "horsey set".
Thanks again Tom for another great review. I’ve had a 2008 LR2 and now a Discovery Sport Dynamic (286 HP) and taken them both off road. The LR2 has gone out with local Jeep clubs on three events, and while there was no rock climbing at the “newbie” level it kept up without a problem, somewhat to the amazement of the Jeepers. Despite the reputation both cars have been very reliable. We kept the LR2 in the family and at 90 K miles it’s been great. I chose the Discovery Sport because of our experience, wanting something with a nicer interior than a Wrangler Rubicon at the same price point, which clearly is far more capable off road. Critically the “Dynamic” engine , fully corrects the epic turbo lag of the earlier, less powerful models. It’s been seriously off road three times and at 16K miles been an absolutely reliable and pleasantly quick ride. Keep up the great work, it’s much appreciated!
A really really beautiful SUV. How in the world that Jag/Land Rover is okay putting out an infotainment system that froze for Tom in just a brief time with it is a kinda pathetic. Glad to see they are looking to improve what every single reviewer mentions as an issue.
Tom , Merry Christmas to you and all your SUBSCRIBERS. How does watery Washington State compare to all those authentic Charlie Brown Christmases you used to have back in Minnesota?
It doesn't sound like an American V8. Different cylinder firing in European cars. American v8s have an odd cylinder firing sequence giving them the barble.
Most people only lease such cars / sUV's for 3 or 4 years. You'll be fine. If you want to keep it for 10 or 15 years, it's a different story, but how many people keep a car for that long?
Who keeps a car that long? Me! I bought a 2004 Nissan Maxima brand new. I’m the original owner. 15+ years later. I’m buying the GLE as a retirement gift to myself since I am close to retiring.
@@officesuperhero9611 I'm not sure all the screens in modern cars will last 10 or 15 years, regardless of brand. Many premium brands have 3 screens. Will be interesting to see how those will hold over time. But perhaps in 2030 those screens will be cheaper than now
Richard I would say you won't have any problems in terms of transmission, engine or electronics as I can say from my experience. But maybe the air suspension or exhaust system might suffer
The windows are small so it looks like you’re looking out of a cave. The door handles are popped out in the off road setting, perfect for catching branches. The tires and wheels are gi-normous. They would be really fun to change out in the wilderness. It looks nice tho.
Just a side note: after seeing Tom’s video on the Lanmodo Vast I purchased one and it works as specified. It’s on sale on Amazon Prime right now at half price. And I don’t work for anyone except my wife.
Hello Tom, first, happy holidays to you and family. I hope you all had nice presents. I get a great present every week from yourself! On a lighter note, driving from Serbia, thru Hungary, Austria, Germany, back to France, rest assured the station wagon is alive and well. Lots of Audi, and Mercedes of course, but Peugeot, Citroen, Renault, Opel, and Ford as well. Europeans are a practical lot!
Perhaps malfunction or a driver's side door that wasn't fully closed? Normal doorhandles only have a fraction of the problems such moving stuff has I think
@@williamdrijver4141 Not a malfunction. The door handles close once the car gets up to speed. It never got past 10 MPH when were off roading. It can be done manually.
Great review Tom. I think That Ferris wheel was from season 3 of Stranger Things. I just finished watching it today so it was kinda fresh in my mind. Although with all the filming done in town it could’ve been used in any number of shows.
So here we go...all the negative comments from people who never owned a Range Rover, who never drove a RR and who(m) for sure can't afford one and is envious as hell; they'll never understand the satisfaction of taking a $150K luxury suv into the most challenging areas, having it detailed and then pull up in front of the symphony, in style might I add. It's not your average boring Toyota, the RR actually has a lot of personality and it has capabilities you can only dream of ever fully exploring. It's a very sophisticated piece of machinery, and as such it'll need repairs as it ages, obviously, that is what extended warranties are all about. I have owned 5 over the past 20 years and I have no regrets, Rovers are awesome; that being said, I wouldn't buy an old one just to be able to say I have a Range Rover. There's nothing average about it and it's not a poor mans suv, so stop complaining about the things in life you can't have and go do an oil change on the old beater sitting outside. Cheers :):):)
The terrain bits did look pretty undramatic I must say, this of course partly due to not really being able to judge inclines and declines. Still I think it would be fun to see if a Miata could not have dealt with the terrain just fine.
As a Miata owner I can tell you it's not the kind of terrain I would think about driving on. It's very hard to show how steep the course was, video tends to flatten things out. It was not a hard technical course, but I'll guess most SUV owners would not be comfortable taking their personal vehicles on it. Unless they were Jeep owners.
While I've always appreciated the very nice and luxurious appointments with the general Land Rover/Range Rover models, they ALSO are always at the bottom of all automotive consumer reliability lists. I would NEVER own one of these vehicles.
This looks something that much more expensive than the X3M, but much slower than the X3M at the same time. I'm a big fan or Land Rover, I own a Land Rover, I know they are good at off-roading, but how can they be so trashed at accelerating????

Land Rover has built the same SUV over and over again, while giving it different names. Why would I buy this over a Range Rover sport, or a disco? If I was a wealthy mom getting spoiled children to private school in a hurry, that is? Now you've turned the Land Rover defender into another crossover SUV for "yummy mummies", and yet another thing that will bankrupt a man for making too much during his marrige, after the divorce settlement leaves him with an apartment, and a used car... Damn, add in the Evoque, and how do you tell all of these leather lined, plastic classes, computer controlled, dumpster fired once the warranty expires, mom approved minivans apart?

Yeah, I know a couple LR owners and they've had pretty good experiences with modern vehicles. There's always the extended warranty.
9:45 minute video ends up being 13:24 because of the length of the name of the vehicle, lol

The word is pronounced according to the local idiom. In Hampshire, Hereford and Hertford hurricanes hardly ever happen.
